"That sounds amazing," said Z. He turned and noticed Marcus walking back up, "Oh, hi. Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the people that could help me register for the contest." Z gave a respectful bow to Marcus. "Axew." said Axew. "Hey!" said Z, "you don't have to insult me! You didn't know where to look either!"
"No problem, z. I see you both are acquainted, and you both know me, so there's no need for introductions." Marcus smiles softly, trying to wake himself up. "Looks like we have a bit more time to get ready since we don't have a fourth yet. But yeah, earlier, Eira, I was trying to ask you, how are you feeling about this competition? Think you're gonna win?"
I actually feel kind of bad trying to manipulate her, but she has the best chance to win so far anyway, and if she does any better because of me, I guess it's not that bad. I wouldn't mind losing to someone like her, no offense, z. Besides, she could use some more confidence.
"How do you seem to understand what Axew is saying?" Eira asked him curiously, looking between the two before looking down at her own partner. No matter how much she tried, she had never been able to talk to her partner or any other Pokemon. She wondered if maybe their bond wasn't as strong as she thought it was. "Oh, um, we have a few things we may try that might impress the judges."
Z smiled, "I've been traveling with Axew for a while and we bonded to the point that we can understand each other quite well." "Xew Axew!" "True, my parents lessons were a key part in it," admitted Z. Z then turned to listen to the others as they talked about the contest.
"Hm...You don't seem to sure about your skills. Look at where we are. No offense, z, but Eira, look at your competition. presentation is everything and you've got a cute axew with a trainer in a very very old beat up cloak and a slakoth with a messy, lazy trainer. And here you are in that dress with a Pokemon most people here haven't seen in forever, ice types don't usually venture this far south. You should be more sure of yourself, if not that, then be sure of your Pokemon. Just look at your Spheal; does he look like he's unsure about his skills?
"Spheal!" Spheal called to his trainer, wanting her to know that they communicate just fine and that he was ready to go. He was saddened to see her only smile weakly at him before turning her attention back the other humans to deny what Marcus had been saying. While the young Pokemon liked that his human interacted with other humans more, he was not happy to be ignored. He blew ice in her face to get her attention once more. "Spheal! Sphe, spheal!"
Z began going through more routines in his head and began discussing it with Axew in hushed tones. "so I throw an orange." "Ax," "okay, good plan, then you..." Axew nodded.
"Trust in your partner, Eira. You've got the best chance out of the three of us. The queen came and talked to you for quite a while. She's obviously intrigued by you. You're the best looking team, visually. You have an exotic pokemon who is looking like he can take on the world." Marcus closed his eyes for a moment.
Ugh, it's bad enough trying to talk to people in general, it's even worse trying to convince someone of the truth...what does she find easiest to understand? hmmm...she's in isolation a lot...and a lot of Pokemon. Maybe she just needs to be alone with her Spheal to think about it. I don't like it because I'm not going to be able to confirm it, but it's better than trying to convince her.
"I'm sorry for pushing you like this, but I can just see how good you are going to do and i want you to see it too."
Marcus looks over to z and his axew planning.
"Well they're hard at work. Just think about it. Talk it over with your Spheal. I'm going to go take a quick nap with sofa here. someone wake me up before this whole thing starts, yeah?"
Z continued to plan in the corner with axew. there was the occasional argument and axew bit Z on occasion, but they kept going through scenarios together and trying to come up with ideas for the appeal part of the contest. They didn't pay much attention to the the others and kept bouncing ideas off of each other. "Axew Axew." "that's a good one," said Z, "what about..." Axew bit him. "Ok not that one."
"Ah, um, thank you Marcus," Eira murmured nervously, smiling slightly at him. "I'll do my best to win, but you and Sofa should try your best too. You never know who this queen may pick to win."
Marcus rested his head down on the familiar patch of fur yet again. He looked at Eira staring at her Spheal.
"She really should be more confident. She could actually beat us. You hear that buddy?" Sofa rustled, grunting questioningly. "I said she could actually beat us. If we both gave it 100% and so did she and her little Spheal, she could still beat us. Strange how she's not confident about it though, huh?"
Sofa grumbled unapprovingly at this conversation and went back to sleep.
A smile grew across Marcus' face. That's what I thought.
Z finished bouncing ideas off of Axew and turned to the others. "So we're waiting for a fourth?" he asked, "Does anyone know what the queen finds abusing?" Z shifted his weight and Axew crossed its arms with a determined look. "Axew." "You said it," said Z, "we'll do our best."
Eira looked at her competitors for a moment before she decided that she needed to practice. She set Spheal down in the corner of the room and paced in front of the small, round Pokemon. There had to be something she could do to help herself out with this competition. Many different scenarios popped into her head of all of the different moves she could use to show off her Spheal before one caught her attention. She turned to her partner with a smile. "Alright Spheal, I know what we are going to do, but to do so we need to charge up Ice Ball to its max."
Spheal gave a cry of its name before it began to use Ice Ball, shooting a tiny ball of ice across the room.
Z jumped to the side as the attack nearly hit him. "Hey! careful with that!" said Z, "that was dangerous!" "Axew! Xew Ax Axew!" Z frowned at his companion. "There's no need for a foul mouth!" Axew then bit him again. "OW!"
"Sorry," Eira quickly apologized as Spheal began to charge up the second round of Ice Ball. "We don't normally practice like this and Ice ball is a bit unpredictable right now."
