"I was from Hoenn too before I made it here. I had never been south of the blizzards until now. Where I am from we live together in a tight area to help conserve resources and space. We try to keep as many people from freezing as possible," Eira explained to him with a small smile and a small squeeze of Spheal. "We've rescued so many people from freezing in the past few years, it makes you wonder why people try to travel through the storms."
Eira laughed softly at his sudden change in topic. "They are."
It felt nice to talk to someone who found communicating to people as awkward as he did, refreshing, almost; but he had to focus. Akane was already almost through staring down the rest of the contestants and they still had no game plan.
"They look very nice on you. Anyway, good luck, I've got to try and get this guy up so we can strategize. I recommend you do too."
Turning back to Sofa, Marcus kneeled down and closed his eyes. Okay, think think think think think thin think thinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthink think! What can we do? alwejialvkm nolanovm noadsolefmmompunchlkemnfo dskn falsdfn lsdfn ace...wait, what was that thought? It was all a jumble. Not that one. That one. Okay, and that could go with rotation and......angles! Alright, so...how am I going to get Sofa to do that? I can't get him up to go lay in a softer bed of grass let alone perform in front of people, unless....
"Alright buddy, wake up! Don't make me get you all the way up, you know I know how." Sofa opened his eyes, clearly annoyed. "Good. So here's what we're gonna do..."
Eira watched Marcus work with Sofa for a moment before Spheal blew ice in her face once more to grab her attention. He looked at her cheerfully and gave a cry of it's name to show that it was ready to do whatever she wanted him to. Eira smiled down at her partner before hugging him once more. "Let's do our best out there and show them how beautiful Ice types can be, okay Spheal?"
Z walked into the contest hall. His ragged cloak looked somewhat out of place in the elegant hall and his Axew looked around in wonder from on his shoulder. "This looks like a pretty nice place," said Z, "you think we can win?" Axew just gave him a look. "You're right," said Z, "probably not"
Hmm... Not quite the crowd I was expecting today, save for that woman. Akane looked the third contestant up and down. Her interest in him spiked when she saw a dragon-type pokemon looking around her hall. She swiveled her body around in her massive throne to fully face the newcomer. She leaned over to her guard standing next to her throne and murmered,
"What an unconfident bunch we have today. But I guess there are no real halls in this region except for this one."
She considered leaving her perch to talk to the new contestant, but decided against it, the raggedy cloak deterring any embers of desire to.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
"...got it? So, once again, when you're on the way..." Marcus saw z walking as if he didn't know what he was doing here.
I know how that feels. Maybe I should help him, no one else seems to be jumping to help. Marcus stood up and stretched, then started walking towards the younger boy to offer his assistance. He looks more raggedy than me. And that's saying something. He's practically beat up. No wait, it's just the cloak. It's old. Really old. It just looked messed up from a distance, but it must be generations older than this kid. And the rest of his clothes are well put together and modern. Maybe there's more to this kid than I first thought...
"Hey there. My name's Marcus. how do you do? You seem lost, you need help? I may not be in the best position to provide it, but I will do my best."
"Oh, hi," said Z, "I'm Kazi, but please call me Z. This is my friend and partner, Axew." Axew gave a small salute. "So how do I enter the contest here?" asked Z
"You...haven't registered yet? Oh, yeah I did have someone signing up for me. You could miss it if you don't pay attention or know what you're looking for. Uhh...go back the way you came; there's gonna be some scary soldiers back that way. Just tell them you haven't registered yet and they should let you through. There's gonna be a nice lady at a desk back there on the left. Just give your name and your Pokemon's name and you'll be signed up. Then rush back, we could start any minute now. Nice to meet you...z."
Interesting kid. Bit scatterbrained, but that's no sin. He's got an axew, which is both cute and a dragon? Even lower chances for us. Marcus looked back at Sofa looking at his own claw like it was the most interesting thing in the world. A small smirk cracked across his face.
Z thanked Marcus and hurried back the way he came. He looked for the soldiers that Marcus had helpfully mentioned so he could register. As he walked, he was planning in his head what Axew and him could do to perform in the contest. Soon Z saw some scary soldiers and ran up. "Excuse me," he said, "I was told to come to you if i wanted to register for the contest here."
"He'd better get back fast. Hope he has his routine planned already." Marcus knelt down again next to his friend, "You ready?" Sofa looked up from his incredibly fascinating claw and locked eyes with Marcus. "Yeah, you're ready. Alright. Just remember the order, okay? don't want you hitting someone in the audience by accident." Sofa nodded slowly and closed his eyes again, asleep yet again.
Marcus sighed long and deep; he felt like he was comfortable. At ease. Like he's accomplished something. The hard part's still yet to come, though. The rest is up to that girl from the north.
Marcus walked over to Eira with an attempted air of confidence. He had to be friendly and helpful to make this work.
Z was sent to the receptionist and, once there, he signed in his pokemon and himself before hustling back to where Marcus was. "You ready, Axew?" he asked his partner. "Axew," was his response. "Alright then," said Z, "just trust me and we should do fine. And don't get snippy and bite me again, I know what I'm doing. Besides, that would make us look bad." "Xew," pouted Axew.
Spheal noticed the newcomer and decided to investigate the strange Pokemon it had never seen before. With a small bit of effort, Spheal rolled out of his partner's lap and rolled his way after the new trainer and his little dragon partner.
"Spheal! Come back here!" Eira called after her Pokemon when she noticed that it was actually leaving the room instead of just rolling around it like she had thought. She quickly followed after her partner and watched as it rolled right up to some worn looking trainer and bumped him on the leg. With a sigh of dismay, Eira quickly grabbed her partner before he could move again. "I'm so sorry about him."
"Oh, it's alright," said Z, "he probably just wanted to make a friend. My name's Kazi, but I prefer Z, and this is Axew." "Axew." siad Axew. "What's your name?" asked Z, "Are you entering in the contest too? Where are you from?" Z's energetic side started to show and he shifted his weight to his left leg.
"What am I, chopped liver? That's twice today. It's okay, it's okay...z seems pretty confident and nice, he might do the job for me without even knowing it. And if that's the case, I can catch some z's of my own while we wait for her royal highness to start this shindig." Laying his head down on Sofa, Marcus fell asleep almost as fast as his Pokemon does, to dream of Occa berries.
