"It's hard to say really, but it wouldn't surprise me if one of them does grow to be like the rumors describe since they are in such a perfect environment for them to grow," Eira said with a bit of a sigh, unsure of how she felt about such a Pokemon growing in power. It was true that Sableye were creepy Pokemon, but she would rather have them around than Psychic types. It was hard enough handling Shimmer without her fear getting the best of her, let alone a wild Psychic type that had a much more powerful form.
"I guess I just am a little wary of a pokemon that already has no type disadvantages and some pretty good speed, getting even stronger than it is normally," said Z, "if just one of the Sableye in the abandoned mine got to be that powerful, then they might be able to break out and infest the other mines, and that would hurt the town's economy as most of our income comes from our mining of precious stones and ores from deep within the earth."
Haxorus walked over to where Sparky was sulking and gave her a reassuring pat on the back, understanding how hard it was for her, as he had had to participate in the battle as well to keep the blasted ghost/dark types from fleeing into the town itself.
The Snover was actually following him around the festival. Actually following him… watching his movements to make sure it would not get lost. It was shocking to Maleko since he didn’t expect this to be happening. He had expected that the Pokemon would soon grow bored of him and wander back into the wilderness. Giving the Pokemon an occasional glance, he noticed that the Snover seemed to be slightly uncomfortable with the noise of the festival. “H-Hey little guy... are you sure y-you want to join my party?” The question needed to be asked.
Why did it have to be asked now? Because, at the moment, he was back at the home that a nice family was letting him stay at while he was here. Here he could grab a Pokeball from his stuff and put the uncomfortable Pokemon inside it, thus taking it out of the noise for a short amount of time. The Pokemon looked uncertain for a short amount of time before giving him one of its full body nods. Nodding back, Maleko knocked on the door to the home. The lady of the house answered the door and he explained the situation to her. It didn’t take long for him to duck into the house, grab a Pokeball, and duck back out. Soon he was standing in front of the Pokemon that was still waiting for him outside.
“Alright, if y-you are certain this is what you want, why d-don’t you do the honors?” He held the Pokeball out in front of the Snover who looked at it intently for a few moments before reaching out and poking the button that opened the ball. Immediately the Pokemon was captured in the red glow of the ball pulling it in, then the ball snapped closed and shuffled for a moment in Maleko’s hold before going still. Giving a small smile, Maleko pressed the button and let the Snover back out. The Pokemon looked a little dazed, probably from the shock of being captured then released for the first time. The Pokemon then looked up at him and tilted slightly to the side. Shard and Mistletoe, who had been quiet the whole time, now moved from where they had been to crowd around their newest teammate. “W-Welcome to the team Shiver.” Was all Maleko said as he watched his three Pokemon start talking.
Finally, he hit the last mark. He had won. He would be panting if he were any other person, but the repetitive action of slamming the sledge hammer against the pressure plate was just like chopping wood, an action he had to do way more often than he’d like to admit. After winning as best as he could, he was faced with a tough decision; which prize to pick? There were so many… and after all he had just played the game for fun. He saw many oddly shaped pokemon and mostly eh pokemon. He leaned over to Kaname and instead asked him to pick.
Kaname looked around as he thought- a habit he had attained long ago. Almost immediately again, he saw Mariko wondering seemingly aimlessly about. He looked over and noticed her bird pokemon were guiding her around, almost escorting her. He even noticed her smoochum, but quickly pushed it aside when Tsubame startled him. Quickly he pointed to the giant plush pidgey.
”Really? That one? It’s so plain. So boring. What am I going to do with it…” He paused following the route Kaname’s other claw took. He turned his attention back to the booth manager. ”I’ll take the stupidly large pidgey please.” However, when he had received it, he realized that perhaps he had made a mistake as he and his partner walked away to where they last had seen Mariko.
”Are you sure she’ll want… this? Look at it! It’s not only bigger than you, but at least half of me!” His whining was cut short by the sneasel’s glare. ”If this doesn’t work I’m totally blaming you.”
Ah. There she is… oh man, I can’t tell if she’s talking to that nicely dressed man or not… is she…? I can’t tell… damn. The stupid festivals filling up… need to get closer-Kaname? KANAMENO!! His thoughts had riled into an uproar as Kaname easily slid through the crowd to Mariko. Stupid sneaky, ninja pokemon thing… He grumbled as he tried to shove past the massive swaths of people, which was made impossible by the ginormous, fat, happy bird plush that blocked his view.
When he finally got close enough to her, he realized what she was wearing… a traditional Ecruteak kimono. He knew he was trapped this time, but he was frozen in his place; the beautiful colors and patterns had ensnared him in her contrsting sapphire gaze, even if only for a brief moment that dragged on like the heartbeats that trudged on with their war drums in his ears. He quickly realized how idiotic he must’ve looked… a grown, overworked man, with a fat comic-book bird half his size and an expression of Oh holy hell I hope that’s not piss running down my leg. Only an expression.

Mariko let out a sigh as the crowd around her grew slightly denser. She honestly felt like she was going to suffocate. No amount of festivals she had attended in Ecruteak had prepared her for this one, and that was saying something. Thank goodness she had thought to pick up Snowdrop when she had. Glancing out the corner of her eyes, she could see how flustered and uncomfortable Celeste and Luka were becoming from staying on her shoulders in the crowded space. Shrugging her shoulders, her silent way of letting them know they were free to fly, she watched as they took off into the air, slightly above where she was, but not far enough away to where they couldn’t land again if they needed to.
It was at that moment, as she was about to take a step forward, that she felt a small tug on her Kimono causing her to glance down… Only to be faced with the Sneasel from much earlier in the festival. Blinking, she gave the Pokemon a strange look. “Hello again, are you lost?” She questioned not sure why the Pokemon would be there in the first place, or how he had found her once more in the large crowd bustling by them. “Shouldn’t you be with your trainer? Or is he lost too?” She didn’t really know what else to ask, or say.
From above her, both Celeste and Luka were giving the Pokemon weary looks, not because of its type, but because they believed that its trainer was the cause of their trainers distress.
Finally figuring it out, he began to use the plushy goodness of the pidgey to ram people out of the way, but they didn’t seem to mind because being hit by the plushie didn’t hurt them. Finally ramming his way over to her, he managed to break into the bubble around her the crowd created. Without thinking, he randomly burst out,
”Hey Mariko!” He hated how obnoxious he sounded when he spoke to her, so he tried to correct it. ”How are you today?” his voice was still off, but at least he sounded smoother… to him. Kaname basically face-clawed at his trainer, and pawed in the air at smoochum.

Mariko felt herself startle at the sudden calling of her name, causing Snowdrop to let out a sound of concern. Giving the baby Pokemon a quick apologetic look, she looked up towards where the voice had come from… Only to be met with the sight of a large plush Pidgey, that soon was moved aside enough to revel the man she had mixed feelings about seeing. “Tsubame.” She said in greeting, trying to play it off as though she had not heard his question. Both Luka and Celeste flew down to her shoulders once more in silent support. Meanwhile, Snowdrop looked confused at the fact that Mariko suddenly seemed to be slightly unsure about something she couldn’t really see from her place in the woman’s arms. "It has been a while hasn't it?" Mariko then asked the man, trying to make casual conversation while her bird Pokemon glared the man down from her shoulders.
After watching the festival go on for quite some time and finding that no one else seemed to wish to speak with her while they could, Eira decided that it was about time that she wrapped up tonight's events. Her closing announcement did not mean that everyone had to go home, but it was growing late and she did not want too much commotion to bring wild Pokemon near her village. She cleared her throat before she called out to all of those who could hear her.
"Ladies and gentlemen! I would like to announce the end of tonight's festivities. I thank you for coming all the way to Silvertree in celebration of yet another wonderful contest," Eira called out, a smile coming her face as she readied herself for her big announcement. "I hope to see you all again. Possibly the next time we all meet, it will be in the newest city in Eirlys. I have begun work on a trade city on our border with Celosia that is now named Mistleaf. Please, once it officially opens its gates to travelers, make sure you stop there on your way between Celosia and Eirlys. Now, good night to you all."
”Yeah… Yeah it has been.” His voice was softer, weighed down by regret for not contacting her sooner, but he had almost let it go that she was the one that got away after he had to return to Eirlys. He wanted so desperately to apologize, to spend the evening with her catching back up, because she was worth more to him than just a fling-she was a friend.
Awkwardly he stood there for a moment before his hand slipped a little on the pidgey due to the sweat from running around. Now he just felt stupid for wanting to give her the plush, but Kaname gave him a death stare saying That thing is not coming home with us.
”Eh… um… Here.” Awkwardly like everything else that had happened tonight, he pushed the plush at her. ”I uhh- won this for you…” ’Shit… why did I do this? Now she’ll think all I’m good for is cheesy carnival games…’ Plus he forgot the fact his sweaty palms had matted some of the fur.
As if an arrow had struck his heart, Lady Eira announced her leaving. No! I just found her again… running through all the possibilities that he could see her again, the only he found was seeing her at another contest in months to come or going down to visit her, but that required time and money, two things he didn’t have at the moment.
To savor even one day with her, he blurted out, ”If you don’t have a place to stay, Miss Mariko, you are welcome to stay with me in my cabin! I’ve got room.” He was sure he was bright red, but he didn’t have many friends and Dalek was nowhere to be seen. Kaname gave him a very confused face, but dared not to object.

Mariko couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the fact that Tsubame seemed to be out-of-sorts as he returned her response. But she raised both eyebrows in surprise at the fact that he was holding out the gigantic Pidgey plushy that he had been holding on to since the beginning of their conversation. "That is for me?" She asked confused by the fact that he had thought about her when he had won the plush in the first place. However what had her the most confused of all was the suddenness of the offer for her to stay at his cabin. Celeste and Luka seemed to object to the offer almost instantly, the two letting out a series of tweets, while Snowdrop watched on confused. Mariko moved to quickly calm the two bird Pokemon before giving Tsubame a small uncertain smile. "Are you sure you want me to stay with you? I mean, I don't have a place to stay, but the offer almost seems to be too sudden for you to actually mean it." She asked finally moving to place Snowdrop down so that she could take the plushy from the other finally. "I will need someplace considering that the festival was just called to a close."
”Yeah-uhh… I-uhh… Kaname saw you earlier and uhh… well I umm.. Thought you might like it. With your flaming-pidove-thing and other bird pokemon…thing he says you have.” He had a shaky smile, but his mind (and probably Kaname) were screaming ’You idiot! Why are you stuttering!? And that’s not a pidove, pidoves are purple! He could feel his collar sopping wet with sweat now, but gently as one could hand off the massive thing, he passed it to the smoochum. He looked over surprised Kaname wasn’t jumping on the opportunity to escort it and the pidgey, but Kaname was looking away in an almost moody, cold way.
”No! Err yes, yes I want you to stay with me. There aren’t any hotels here and my cabin’s warmer anyway.” He wished he could punch himself. Why am I so nervous? We’re just friends. Wait- why do I care? If she comes over I might be able to… why does thinking like this make me feel so guilty…?’ His expression was dark, reflecting the sadness of his life he felt temporarily.
He quickly snapped back, but couldn’t shake the guilt he felt for thinking the way he did. ”Yeah, I have plenty of room for two people and even a few pokemon.” He smiled his awkward but genuine smiled. ”And don’t worry, no funny business, just a nice thing for a nice lady.” His smile probably looked broken at this point, ’I am only making this worse aren’t I…? fix it fix it fix it!’ ”Aaand by that I mean you’ll get your own bed and room and stuff.” He was sure his sweat droplets could fill a pool. Why do I get so nervous around her and only her? This is so annoying!? Why am i acting so stupid?!

Mariko stood there uncertain for a moment as she listened to the man in front of her stutter and stumble over words. The sight was slightly amusing, but at the same time, painful to watch. Sighing to herself, she moved one hand so that it was up in a stop motion. “Stop. You are over-clarifying some things that you have already stated before, and it is getting us nowhere. Let me say a few things of my own now. One, I don’t mind staying at your cabin, if you are alright with it. Two, Luka is a Fletchinder now, not a Pidove. Three, if you do get any ideas for funny business, I will allow my two, normally sweet and tame, bird Pokemon to do what they have been wanting to do for the whole time you never contacted me after taking me out to lunch, and attack. Four, you have a lot of explaining to do, starting with how you found it funny to play games of the heart and then just leave.” She said, starting calm before a small amount of controlled disappointment slipped into the words at the end. Yes, it was not classy to bring these sort of things up in public, but they had been bothering her for a while, and she wanted answers.
Tame birds…? Tame my ass. He would have rolled his eyes, but restrained for fear of offending Mariko. His eyes flicked to the angry, over-protective bird, then back into her aquamarine eyes while she was stating her demands.
”Four, you have a lot of explaining to do, starting with how you found it funny to play games of the heart and then just leave.”
Her fourth statement felt like the time he had been avalanched on by bricks. He turned very quiet and a pensive expression must’ve flattened his features. He thought deeply about everything that had happened between that time. He remembered how desperately he missed her company, even though they hadn’t actually spent that much time together. Finally, he decided he would swallow his pride; it was his only option if he wanted to see her again.
”I uhh… I didn’t mean to just leave… I’m just…I’m just poor alright… I had to return to Eirlys to work. I was actually going to surprise you, and in all honesty I’m saving every cent I can to come and visit you again. It’s hard on a mediocre working man’s pay. I guess I should have sent you a letter, but I’ve been working ten to twelve hour shifts pretty much every day without fail. Even poor Kaname has been working by my side. Unfortunately, even as a registered worker, pokemon only make at most half as much as humans.”
He hadn’t noticed but he was rubbing the back of his head, messing up his hair while he spoke, but when he finished he pointed to Kaname with his relatively skinny features. He didn’t even want to think of showing her his ribs which weren’t that hard to find just under the muscle at least, once the puffy coat was removed. He was almost afraid of her reaction, hoping she wouldn’t be too upset. He hadn’t really stated whether or not he had money or not, so he hoped she wouldn’t be too mad.

Mariko was slightly surprised by the others response. Well, that was something she had not expected to hear. “Is that… So…?” She said slowly before she took a look around where the two of them, plus their Pokemon were standing. “This is not something to continue discussing in public. We should move somewhere else to discuss this.” She hoped that the other understood that she meant. She didn’t want to make this any more awkward than it already seemed to be, especially in a public place such as this ended festival. There were still many people wandering around, and that meant that their conversation could be overheard, thus making Tsubame possibly even more uncomfortable. She wasn’t that cruel, she didn’t want to make him explain more on the subject in public.
"Yeah uh-suppose you're right." examining the vicinity, he assumed she meant she was ready to go, and with every right; the festival was closed. Lady Eira and her major guests had left what seemed like hours ago, and now it was the straggelers and clean-up crew. He was embarrased; downright so. He had never lost his cool so badly with a woman before. "Let's go." He winced, 'Too aggressive. Calmer now, she's not who you're angry with.' He thought solemnly. He knew who it was he was angry with all too well. "Are you warm enough? It is quite a walk to my cabin, and the night usually brings freezing winds." His failing attempt to smooth things over, he realized she was in a kimono which had not only thick fabric but also many layers of said fabric.
Tsubame wasn't really worried so much about Kaname, he was an ice type. Kaname was busy facepalming at his friend's stupidity.
"Miss Mariko," He offered his bent arm for her to rest hers upon. He was almost too broken to say anything more. His mind tried to play tricks on him, pestered him about why this woman, why her? What was it about this woman that made her so special? And as if he was going insane, he realized; 'It's got to be because she's hot and I haven't banged her yet. Yeah. That's what it is.' He smirked, proud of himself, and almost forcefully took her hand, kissed the top of it, almost at where it met the wrist, and gently tucked it in his own hand while he escorted her to his cabin to the east.
