Taking a few steps away from the booth, Marcus stopped and looked down, his face feeling hot. "Why do I always do this? I can't just leave well enough alone. I always have to start a fight..." Marcus leaned against the wall, his jacket getting slightly stuck.
It's like I can't ever make a friend without insulting them or telling them everything that's wrong about them. Everything I think is wrong about them... Marcus' eyes started to burn and he felt like he wanted to cry.
"Wy?" Lex was confused, everything seemed to be going fine earlier, and then they had to leave. Now Marcus was all sad. "Wy...wy..." Lex pulled at Marcus' pant leg. When he didn't respond, Lex wrapped his arms around his leg and squeezed as tight as he could. "Wynaut."
Marcus looked down at his Wynaut and managed a small smile. "Look at me, being so pathetic. I never liked the idea of people feeling sorry for themselves, and here I am doing just that." Marcus sniffled, pulled his sleeve off the wall and knelt down to look at Lex. "Thank you. I needed that hug. I'm gonna go for a walk and then come back after the contest; so you'll get to play with Sealeo again. Okay?" Lex puffed up in joy as he was being pulled into his Pokeball.
Doom roared and his howl echoed through the hallway, he let out some flames as he did. He melted another hole in an ice pole in the hall; luckily it seemed that it was an unimportant one.
”Okay buddy, looks like you’re going to destroy the hall if you do battle. Let’s let Silas take this one.” Houndoom grumbled but headed off to the bleachers to watch his master. He took a spot relatively close to Marcus up front.
Akane looked at Maya who was going to use her mareep again. Akane threw her luxury ball high in the air and Silas was released. He had grown in his evolution, taller than Akane. He also roared in the hall, the higher pitch made it echo farther but rumble less. Silas didn’t melt into the floor for traction like houndoom did, but she watched his paws extend their claws for traction. He too would have no traction issues.
Akane and Silas prepared for their upcoming performance. Eira spoke yet again saying winning was not important more so than beauty. Silas’s fur crackled. Akane’s eyes went dark and her smile stretched wide. I will do both.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Eira's eyes snapped up to the stage when Silas roared, having been startled from her thoughts by the arrival of the new Pokemon. She was not surprised such a ferocious looking Pokemon was Akane's, not after she saw that Houndoom perform. Eira leaned forward a bit in her seat, now curious about what Akane was planning on doing with that Electric type in her ice halls and hoping that it would create quite the show between the two combatants.
Maya sat and coached Bo carefully, studying the field, the ice and everything else. It would appear that Akane would be using her luxray it appeared. It looked powerful but it was also an electric type like Bo... any electric attacks it used would do minimal damage... but that wasn't what Maya was worried about. It was any other moves it might have that worried her. The second problem was luxray's speed. Bo was slow as a flaaffy. If she had any hope of wining or keeping Bo from fainting she had to figure out something that would work to her advantage...
"Ok Bo," she said, nervously. "Listen carefully..."
Akane watched as Maya spoke with her Flaaffy. Flaaffies were slow and electric pokemon. No paralysis could occur. Silas’s fur continued to crackle and pop, the charge made Akane’s hair stand on end everytime she stroked Silas’s head. Akane had a strategy to beat Maya in both beauty and battle. She smiled when Silas’s cry whirred in his chest.
”That’s right my friend, we will take her out quickly so she can’t perform.” Silas roared once more. The battle would start soon, the pair were in perfect synch and ready to battle.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Eira stood, feeling that it was about time they got started with the battle round. She wished that Marcus had stayed here so she could watch with him and have a second voice in analyzing the battles, but she couldn't just make everyone wait until their small argument had blown over. "Ladies and gentlemen, I believe it is time that we get started with our first battle. Once again, please give a hand for Lady Akane and Maya."
Silas was ready. He jumped ahead of Akane and to center stage. His head was low and his body was in an aggressive stance. Silas was growling and rumbling like thunder and his fur stood on end which made it only crackle and sizzle more.
”Alright my friend, discharge yourself.”
Silas raised his tail and arched his back. He let out a roar as the hall was filled with flashing particles and his fur practically glowed yellow.
”Now use crunch while you discharge!” Silas was slow to start moving towards the flaaffy but he quickly picked up speed. He continued to discharge the sparkling, cackling particles and his teeth glowed white. His speed made him look like a sparkling yellow and white comet. He quickly made his way to the flaaffy. His fangs went straight for the flaaffy’s throat.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
"F*ck!" She swore out loud as she realized what she was doing. That f*cking queen.
"Bo! Hidden Power! No restraint!" Maya shouted. Bo complied and she glowed white and then... let it explode. The field of ice burst into large, giant spears arching into the air. The previously smooth and glassy field instantly became jagged and fractured with ice spikes, like pillars of wicked ice protruding from the field, close to together and on top of each other. One appeared directly in front of Bo, creating a literal wall for the luxray to chew on instead.
"Discharge!"
Bo let loose a electric explosion that made the ice sparkle and shine as she ran for cover. Maya thanked Arceus for her high special attack or else this wouldn't have worked.
Luxray’s powerful jaws easily crushed the ice-spike. He shook his mane out and locked his eyes on the escaping flaaffy. The flaaffy could not escape the luxray’s all seeing, x-ray eyes.
”Don’t let your prey get away.” The red lady’s tone was amused. Luxray had stopped discharging and lunged for the escaping flaaffy, now even faster than before. He jumped in front of the flaaffy and opened his jaws.
”Use thunderbolt.”
Akane was clearly on the offensive. She couldn’t afford to let the flaaffy perform too many moves otherwise it would beat her contest-wise. Luxray began to glow as streams of electricity outlined his body. The electrical flares jumped out and touched the environment around him and dance across their surfaces. He stared the flaaffy in the face. The light stopped and concentrated in front of his mouth. A magnificent, powerful light ball was fired with as much force as a lightening bolt.
Eira was highly impressed by the two combating Electric types, so much so that she was on the edge of her seat to watch them fight and to watch the electricity bounce of the ice in a beautiful show. Both of them were earning massive points for the displays they were showing, especially Akane with the ferocity and bone chilling beauty of her Luxray. Eira truly believed that she would have to call off the battle soon if Akane and Silas got their way with the battle and things continued on like they were.
Maya swore as the lightning bolt crashed through the ice and struck flaaffy squarely. Bo gave a screech as it struck her, her wool sparking and fluffing up as it hit and she fell to the ground. Maya scowled. So thats how it was. This b*tch. She knew that she was clearly at a disadvantage here, that much was clear but she had hoped shared type would be at her advantage. But Luxray was clearly more powerful. It was silly to think that she could hold out in battle... but...
Bo barely held on, stumbling and falling and leaning against an ice pillar. She was almost kaput and probably couldn't mange anything else... This was a hopelessly stupid idea.
She blinked in surprise and... what was Bo doing? Bo put on a show of the most overdramatic ridiculous fainting she had ever seen. She stumbled went forward, a pink stub of a hand going to her chest. She twirled and promptly swooned to the floor, pink stumpy arm draped over her face and was unconscious. Maya just gaped at the performance and resisted the urge to slap her forehead.
Zandrophin watched the battle intently. He saw exploitable patterns in both combatants' styles...but decided just to store that information away for later. On a more immediate level, the electricity in the air was playing havoc with Mentus' psychic connection. Zandrophin could sense his distress
Sir, I cannot maintain my focus due to the charged particles in our vicinity.
It will dissipate soon, old friend. Do your best to block it out.
The battle wasn't necessarily close, but it wasn't one-sided, either. Zandrophin decided just to sit back and enjoy it.
Then....Bo fainted....in a rather overly-dramatic fashion....
That display was unnecessary, Sir.
No arguments there, old friend...that's embarrassing.

Eira couldn't help but to laugh at the little Flaafy's display as it chose to faint. While it didn't necessarily earn any points, she had to appreciate the young Pokemon's attempt at being a ham on the stage. Eira stood to dictate that the match was over, replaying it in her head so she was sure to mark down any and all points the two had earned for it. "That was an excellent show, ladies. Thank you very much for demonstrating the amazing power and beauty of your Electric type Pokemon. Please step aside now so the stage can be cleared and the gentlemen's battle may begin. Maya, we have a nurse on site so you can go get your Flaafy rested up before the award ceremony."
Z steeled his nerves for his battle with Zandrophin. He turned toward Sparky, "Sorry, but I'm going to need you to sit out this round." when the fire pokemon pouted at him he explained, "Axew will be able to counter what he can throw at him better. His pokemon are a water type and a psychic type, both of which put you at a serious disadvantage that could make it hard to gain points in this battle if you face them." Sparky sighed, but nodded in understanding, knowing that Z was thinking of what was best for her and didn't want her to get hurt.
Maya ran out onto the stage, hoping over ice spears to scoop Bo out of the ice, her hood slipping off her head. She felt her hair tingle from the static on Bo but her gloves protected her from any serious shock.
"You did good Bo," she said with a small smile, stroking Bo's wool. "Despite that fainting routine at the end there." She glanced at Silas and his master with a disapproving glare, before standing and striding off the stage. She figure it would end something like this but she didn't expect Akane to be so brutal.
"This is why we don't have royalty in Sinnoh," she mumbled to the unconscious Flaaffy and scurried off to the nurse.
