When Mariko had reached the contest hall in front of her, she had only been planning to be a spectator, and, thankfully she was not the only one who had gotten the idea to dress up for the event in costume.
She really hadn't even thought about stepping onto the stage that night. Neither had her Pokemon, whom were now gathered around her (or in her arms) staring at her in confusion as she went through the registration process. While she had been about to head inside, some guards had exited and begun asking around for anyone who would be willing to participate in the contest. Of course, many refused due to them not having Pokemon with them at the moment, or them not having enough experience in the field of contests. This left Mariko feeling a little unsure at first, before she resolved herself, and she stepped up to the challenge. As soon as her name was finished on the last entry form, the guards near her began to rush her to the hall, where she was told she would have to meet with the queen to announce her entry.
Prasha sat in the back with a cigarette pressed to his lips. He was nervous for it was his first contest. "I wonder where my partner is?" Prasha sleepily looked across the room hoping to spot someone coming toward him, but he was so tired from the long journey that he almost fell asleep. "I need a cup of tea." Prasha flipped open a cap on his tea flask and drained the whole thing in one gulp.
Prasha was also looking at all the costumes and wondered why his was not "Pokemon Themed" Aggron's armor was steel and greyish black and his samurai armor matched Aggron. Prasha decided then and there to stop caring and focus his attention on finding his partner.
Swanky place, Cam thought, clicking her tongue as she walked into the spectator area of the contest arena. She had taken the opportunity to wander the halls briefly, occasionally whistling at some pricey trinket. Nothing had really caught her eye yet and made her fingers itch and twitch to snatch it yet though.
"These royals sure can splurge eh?" She said, looking down at Fuuka. The Mawile nodded, in agreement, looking about eagerly. As it was Cam could see there was already something the Pokemon had... ahem... liberated and had clamped in her massive jaws. "What d'ya think? Do I fit in with the crowd in this?" She asked, inspecting the Bronzong dress.
She didn't particularly care for dresses... but it fit with the crowd. Besides it was the best thing she could get her hands one for a costume. It had a lot of layers but the skirt wasn't particularly restricting... she could run in it if need be. Or tear it to make it easier. Whichever.
"Maawa," Fuuka replied with a disinterested shrug.
"Yer helpful," she sighed as she took a seat where there were less spectators. "What do ya think Noire?"
"Noiiiiii!" The Noibat said cheerfully, flipping in the air. Cam smirked, as she adjusted the ridiculous hat on her purple hair. Time to see what there was to see.
Akane’s guards had been watching and reported to her the mess that happened.
”What do you mean you didn’t escort them to their respective partners? I have to do everything in this kingdom don’t I? Ugh… Report yourselves to Sir Michealmicheals. Immediately. Oh, and you there, Neru, go send for Prasha and Miss Yamada if you would.”
The color from their faces drained from their faces just like how they filed out of the room. Chazz was nicer than Akane, but not by much.
Returning behind the stage, of course Eira and Z had found each other quickly being prior acquaintances. Akane changed her decision and summoned them all to gather in front of her. Her posture was straight, professional, and her hands were tucked within the sleeves of the kimono.
”I apologize for any inconvineances caused by my guards not directing you to your partners, but there is no time for that now. My guards informed me that Eira and Z have finished their plans already and I have therefore decided they shall go first. Good luck. You have fifteen minutes of the hour left to finish preparing yourselves.” She sighed.
”Also because of two late arrivals, they are now automatically paired together and are to go last. I have also decided to send out the pair of Maleko and Maya second. Is this alright?” Her voice sounded so stern, so short, but she didn’t mean to sound rude; just business. It’s always just business.
”Thus the main pair that had issues are now to go third. Luck be unto you. Now please, those of you who aren’t going, please finish preparing and Maya and Maleko, prepare yourselves as well. The rest of you, there will be a slight intermission to buy you some time. Use it wisely.” She shook her head and then again retreated to the stage to announce the first participants officially. ”Good evening my finely dressed citizens of Celosia. I welcome you to the first annual Halloween Holiday at Houndoom Hall. Now, all of you are in for a real show tonight. Eight trainers, some who know each other, some who have never met, all will be preforming in pairs a practiced routine to hopefully skyrocket themselves to a high place in the next round. Wish them luck, and Happy All Hallows Eve. Please welome Eira and Z! Two experienced veteran trainers here to claim the rewards." "Ready?" Eira asked Z nervously as she headed for the stage, fixing her Lapras costume nervously with Meta shifting out of her way as she moved so he wouldn't get hit. The Ditto gave a high pitched cry and hugged her around her neck to let her know that it would be okay. It wasn't that she was nervous about the contest, she had been in too many now for her to feel stage fright that much, it was the idea of working together with another trainer that had her on edge. She wasn't sure if their bit of planning would pay off or if they wouldn't be coordinated enough to give the best performance possible.
"I am," said Z as he adjusted his robes that resembled a jirachi, "I've told my team the plan and they are quite ready. I think Tsurara is eager to use her techniques that she gained from studying the sculptors of your town. I'm going to put my trust in you, so please take the lead." Tsurara floated up and gave a short giggle due to anticipation of being onstage once more. She really liked to perform and even tried to make her battles have an artistic flair to them to add to her elegance. She knew that her trainer was putting his faith in her and she wouldn't let him down.
Eira nodded, recalling Meta into her sleeve instead of into his ball to make a much more unique entrance than normal. Stepping out onto the stage, her back straightened and a more confident look came about her than what she had appeared to be back stage. She stopped at the center of the stage and bowed to the audience. "Ladies and gentlemen, our gracious host, most of you recognize me as the queen of your ally to the north, Eirlys. Tonight I am here to wish you all a happy All Hallows Eve and to give you a wonderful performance. Let me start things off by introducing my partner tonight, a veteran of this stage, Meta! Meta, Transform!"
She threw her arm up as she called out for her Pokemon, sending said Ditto high into the air to show off his unique blue coloring to the crowd before he began to glow. Meta began to transform into a more canine like state as he began his descent towards the stage. By the time he landed in front of Eira, Meta had successfully transformed into a Houndoom with dark blue fur instead of black. Both Meta and Eira then turned to look at Z for his entrance...
Z smiled and pulled out a pokeball, "Tonight, for your entertainment and pleasure, I, Kazi Carter, gymleader of Starfort, will be coordinating with my partner," At this he opened the pokeball, the seals creating a shroud of black smoke and blue fire that was blown away by a purple breeze to reveal Z giving an elegant bow with Tsurara floating above him giving a sort of curtsy, "I hope we can capture your interest this Hallows Eve." Z then flipped back and landed next to Eira with Tsurara floating to take her place on his shoulder with her arm in front of her mouth again as she laughed.
"Shall we begin Meta?" Eira asked her Pokemon, causing him to jump forward with a vicious growl towards the audience. Meta bared his teeth at them, trying to give them chills at his scary demeanor in this form. "Start us off with a simple Will-o-Wisp." Meta's growl grew in volume as he summoned balls of fire around him, the blue flames causing shadows to dance around the Houndoom's form and cause the light reflecting off his teeth and eyes to falter every now and then. Meta kept the balls floating around him for a moment before he shot them outwards to the edge of the stage.
Tsurara let out a spooky trill and shot a blue beam of energy from her hands that formed an icy shell around the floating orbs of fire. She then conjured up a purple gale to catch the ice lanterns and make them float around the stage, before creating a hollow ice sculpture in the form of a skeletal demon with the lanterns held in the head and chest, giving it the appearance of glowing eyes and a glowing heart. Finally, she directs the wind into the holes, giving it a purple color.
Z glanced at Eira, waiting for her to make the next move in this contest. It was now her turn to add to their little performance.
Eira waited for Tsurara to finish before she turned to instruct her own Pokemon. "Use Fire Spin."
Meta barked in response before he shot a column of fire from his mouth to smooth out the edges so the ice would reflect the light within it so much better.
"Finish this up with a Shadow Ball," Eira commanded, seeing the sculpture that they had created and decided nothing more needed to be added to the glowing, eerie ice to make it better. Meta shot several balls of dark energy from his mouth to set up around the statue, giving a pulsing purple light in various places to counter the light coming from the lanterns within the ice.
"One last ominous wind," said Z. Tsurara let out a ghostly cry and whipped up a purple gale that caught the shadow balls and made them spin around the sculpture, causing the purple light to refract off the sculpture from the different shifting angles. The winds died down and the shadow balls continued to spin, while at the same time, the ice lanterns melted through spots on the ice that were purposely left thin, creating a purple mist that flowed from the mouth of the skeletal monster like a toxic breath that flowed from its nonexistent lungs. the result was a skeletal monster that seemed to exhale a purple haze and shined with a ominous glow and had glowing eyes and a glowing core.
The finished ice sculpture gave a chill down Eira's spine since it had the creepiness to match the festival they were celebrating. She had to admit though, that Tsurara's control over her ice was getting much better, especially upon seeing the finer details in the skull that they had created. Taking a bow along with Meta, Eira did not feel worried at all that the duo would earn high scores for their next round, even if that meant it would be harder for them overall to win over each other.
Z smiled and gave a flourishing bow with Tsurara doing something similar. Z was quite confident that this sculpture would do quite well in the competition, but he was curious as to what the second round would entail. He hoped he would be able to pull off a win, as he hadn't had much luck in other contests that he's battled in. It would be nice to have a new contest hall badge. Z and tsurara then walked off of the stage so they could make room for the next set of competitors to enter and perform. Z took one last look at the sculpture and smiled, glad that Tsurara's lessons in Eilrys had come in handy.
Akane wasn’t sure what she was going to do with the giant ice sculpture in the middle of her stage, but that seemed to be the only thing dampening her mood. She was very impressed with the pair she couldn’t even begin to think of where to start. She stood up and Doom trotted along beside her.
”I am so impressed with both of you.” she couldn’t stop smirking, ”You consistently kept a monstrous theme going throughout your entire performance, leading to you two racking up so many points. But onto more specific details…”
A brief applause washed over the crowd until the red lady cut them short.
”Eira, excellent choice in pokemon.” the crowd roared with laughter as Doom stood up to showcase he was the one copied. ”Settle down Doom,” she giggled and the dog pokemon sat next to her, pride still forcing him to show off. ”But jokes aside, you were the definition of text-book perfection as per usual. I have no real criticism except for perhaps going even more out of the box. This time it seemed like you were the supporter-which is fine and fits well within your character’s limits. I just think it would be a new challenge for someone so experienced in supporting. But that’s a choice and not a request and for official events, sometimes it’s better to win with what you know, rather than lose with what you don’t. Excellent job. You must work very hard with your ditto to control these new/and or rarely used forms so easily.”
She turned over to Z and moved a little closer. Her tone was sharp, expression perhaps a little mean.
”You on the other hand…” Doom pawed at her dress as in a Don’t be too harsh sort of way. Her expression relaxed into a large smile. ”You truly were spectacular! You showcased Frosslass’ moves in the upmost superior of ways; you were relaxed, and your pun fantastic. Your frosslass must have been working very hard recently; I can clearly see it in her skill. You have taken your experience and as the leading pokemon in your duo, you have outshined your former performances, you sailed yours and your partner’s way into the top, and Mr. Z, you should be proud of your pokemon and yourself. I doubt anyone could top her performance alone.”
Akane backed away from the duo and turned back to the audience.
”After adding up these scores, I am pleased to present the team of Lady Eira and her ditto the miraculous support and Mr. Kazi Z Carter and his leading lady frosslass,” She turned back to them. ”With a fantastic score of ninety-four points, they have easily secured a place at the top. Good thing this isn’t an elimination round!”
She laughed loudly with the audience. But will next round be? Guess they will find out. She smiled slyly as she sauntered back to her seat with Doom plopping next to her.
