Marcus' eyes started to glow a dark aura and the energy in the room became oppressive and almost painful, and only got worse the more the spirit talked. "That's what they all say. That's exactly what they all said. And then they killed Duša; and then Ahriman and Hans; then Cheveyo; Imamu; Barbara; Kneph; Drogo; Micheal; Mundoo."
Marcus' nose snarled into a scowl more and more with each name as he closed in on the girl, "And they took Rei from me. Twisting their words around to trick them. Convincing them with your silver tongues that 'passing on' is what's best for them. Making them think it was their idea. No...I'm not going to help you grow up to kill so many of my people like your kind has done for thousands of years." Marcus' hands glowed a light yellow as they smacked Ruby out of the way and lunged for Astina in one fluid motion.
No.
The hands stood shaking right next to Astina's neck, trembling as the aura continued to drip from Marcus' fingertips. "Dammit hero, you picked the worst time to develop a backbone." Lex finished explaining everything he knew to Sofa as calmly as he could. Sofa was struggling to stay awake but woke up more at re-hearing the part about the thing flying into Marcus' head.
*Ghosts...Okay Lex, come here. We're gonna try and find Dad for you, okay?* Sofa picked up Lex and cradled him in his arm to comfort him before turning to Nero. *Thank you for looking after him.*
“Life happens.” a statement so self-explanatory in so many ways.
However, the story aside, it was the Fennekin that caught his eye. Learning the Pokemon’s species, its habit, and their destination, it was almost stirring him to an interest in trying to pursue some more origins of such a Pokemon. His own journey was taking him to somewhere even more distant than this place, and just like her, life happens for him too. Still, Xenneth had broken his hypnotic gaze to the Pokemon as the efforts of her seemed to do just to his objective. With the little light that was pushing away the shadows, he could see Nicole’s wounds. He had made haste as he walked to the Kangaskhan mother who was still craning her neck upwards.
“My apologies,” the violet haired boy clasped his hands together gently, “I will make sure to make it up to you in your efforts. Perhaps a week of daycare duty?”
“K…Kang.”
Her mouth making a soft mumble as she seemed to agree with the little movement she had. After all, she had a bunch of youngsters on her head. Xenneth had reached into the mother Kangaskhan’s pouch as he produced a single white box with a red cross upon the top. “Thanks again, Ms. Konny. I promise I’ll get a backpack soon.” The violet haired boy said nothing more as he walked towards Nicole, kneeling at the couch’s end and prompting with a single hand to bring her wounded limb. His other hand was busy as it slipped a box open, putting a single pouch of sealed disinfectant as well as a pair of tweezers.
Maya was gasping hard and coughing as Dororo frantically ran to her side.
"I'm fine, Oro" she coughed on her knees, Dororo supporting her as best he could. "You're a life saver."
"Froggaaa..." He said, warily. Maya looked up to see the flaming blue orb, a will-o-wisp it seemed, and carefully reached for a charm from the bag on the floor. Suddenly, the little orb gave a little pop and there was a very dizzy candle Pokemon. A Litwick.
"Liiiiiiiiiiii..." The Pokemon breathed dizzily as if it were spun too fast. Maya quickly stuck a paper charm to it and the Pokemon froze up.
"Liiiii! Wiiiii?!" The Litwick panicked, panicky cries ringing out from its immobile state.
"Serves you right for doing that," Maya said, rearranging the tags on her body back onto her arms. The pressure in her brain lessened significantly and she could breathe easier as she stuck a few more on.
"Liiiiii!"
"I don't care if you were just trying to have fun. How would you like it if I started controlling you against your will hmmm?" She said, pointing out the Litwick's immobile state.
"Wiiiiiiii!" She shrieked. "Wiiiiiii liiiiiiii!"
"...You're kidding... You want to come with me?" Maya stared at the pleading ghost. She could tell this ghost Pokemon wasn't malicious. Just mischievously dangerous. According to her claims... she just wanted to leave the mansion. "I don't think I can let you come with me... I'm sorry. However, I will remove this charm if your promise not to do anything to me okay?
"Liiiii~" It replied.
With a sigh Maya removed the tag and quick as a flash the Litwick dived at her bag. The Pokemon came back up with a Dusk Ball in its hands.
"Hey!" Maya called. The Litwick threw the Pokeball up in the air with a giggle and let the ball hit it right in the head. A red light surrounded the Pokemon and was pulled into the Pokeball. It shook once... twice... third time it went quiet. Maya gaped at the Pokeball and picked it up. She glanced at Dororo who just gaped back at her.
Nicole moved the injured knee to where Orchid could see it as prompted. She then lowered her shoulders in a way that allowed her backpack to slide off into the area behind her. Moving the bag so that it was at her side with her good hand/wrist, she opened it to search amongst it contents for the bandages she was sure she had. As she went through the bag she noticed how low she was on a lot of her supplies.
Looks like I might actually have to head to someplace for supplies first before I even think of going to the Desert Wastes. She thought to herself as she pulled the roll of bandages she was able to find, out of her bag. "I know you might have some already, but I have these as well just in case." She said placing them beside her on the side not taken by her backpack.
Nero nodded at Sofa's thanks. "Vulpix." *No problem.* He said before jolting. "Vulllpix! Vul Vul Vulpix!" *Snap! I need to get back to Nicole!* He yelped before spinning and moving to bolt back the way he had come from. With the situation with the other Pokemon, he had forgotten that he needed to report the open door to his trainer... And chew her out about lying about how she would be right behind him.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
"You can't kill a spirit though, they can only pass on on their own," Astina murmured as Quartz rose from her lap to stand guard between her and the spirit that wished to attack her. Ruby slowly floated back to Astina before collapsing in her lap, having taken quite the hit from the aura. Astina looked at the spirit before her with determination in her innocent eyes, clearly believing what she was saying. "If you do not want to pass on, that is not something I can force. I only came here to see if there were any spirits that needed my help with their wishes."
She was a very thoughtful girl, and Xenneth took note of that. It brought a gentle smile to his face in an almost pitiful way.
“Then you should keep them just in case,” he said gently as he gestured the tweezers to the bandages, “Besides, with your journey, I think you will need them more so than me.” He meant it in a most compassionate way considering the young woman’s journey. Looking at her, he felt a prick of envy as he looked down at her wound, almost hesitating for a bit to treat it. His lips twisted, somewhat more troubled by his own thoughts than the sight of her wound as he tried to treat it.
“Brace yourself, I’m going to pull the splinters out, okay?” he warned, knowing how fidgety he was at that age. His eyes looked up at Nicole, almost seeming to be worried about her response seeing most people who cringe at the thought of pain, let alone the full on intensity.
Nicole nodded. "Right... Can't be worse than dealing with a Trapinch bite... Or getting the needles I just got out of Nero's fur stuck in my hand." She said trying to make light of the situation so that she wouldn't flinch. Noticing Nicole's discomfort, Phaedra had made her way down the Kangaskhan mother's back, thanking her and apologizing again for letting her climb on her as she did so, before making her way over and jumping into Nicole's lap. Nicole smiled at that and patted the Fennekin on the top of her head. "You did a great job Phaedra. Here, have a twig." She said carefully pulling a twig from her backpack. The Fennekin's eyes lit up and she gratefully took the twig and laid down in her lap to begin nibbling on it.
Nero bolted up the stairs as quickly as he could headed towards the last place he had seen Nicole... Only to find out that she wasn't there. Eyes widening, Nero whined before he began to move down the hall to see if he could find Nicole. He really hoped she was okay. Now he really regretted not coming back sooner.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
“Something tells me you do not pull out splinters often.”
Xenneth made a quick snatch the moment after that very statement. Himself cringing just by doing this himself. With experience, and not to mention being on the receiving end, he often looked for the same reaction when snatching pieces of shrapnel out of anyone’s flesh. He had done to him so many times, before he knew it, he had a gentle, but innocent, smile that made him think of a memory when his mentor pulled some poisonous and itchy quills from some very undesirable places that still made him shiver when he thought about it.
For now on, he looked everywhere he sat for Nidoran.
“Thanks again, Ms. Konny,” Xenneth noted seeing the Fennekin return to Nicole’s lap. His sapphire orbs got a glimpse of the Pokemon chewing the twigs before he himself strayed his eyes away, almost envious. “Your Pokemon clearly love you a lot,” he said as he tried to keep his focus on her wounds, but conversation made the process more easier to handle, the patient’s attention more withdrawn, and the endeavor more plesant.
Maya starred at the Pokeball for a moment, placed a cleanse tag on the seam of it before placing it in her bag next to Bo's Pokeball with a sigh. She looked to Dororo who seemed pleased that his trainer was now in control of her senses. He croaked happily.
"Thanks buddy," she smiles, as he hops up on top of her shoulder, a little bigger than he was as a Froakie, but still could manage. "We need to get out of here. Can I count on you to keep the rest of the ghost Pokemon away? They won't be able to sneak up on you if I materialize them."
"Froga!" He said confidently, giving a salute.
"All right lets go. We need to find Marcus first," she began walking and focused on Marcus's presence. Something was off... She picked up the pace and followed the direction as Dororo water pulsed a Gastly right through the wall.
Nicole shrugged lightly. "I guess... Maybe it's because they seem to be the only ones I can talk to without feeling ridiculous... Or uncomfortable. Phaedra here is my newest Pokemon, but Nero I've had since I was little... From what I remember anyways." She answered the statement. She would have continued if it weren't for the muffled sound of paws stopping just short of the group. Looking over, her eyes lit up.
"Nero! Oh thank goodness you're okay!" She said seeing her best friend standing a little ways away staring at the scene somewhat cautiously. Noticing that Nicole looked back at Orchid and his Kangaskhan. "Theses two? They're alright. They're actually helping me with my knee. It's okay." She reassured him, Phaedra stopping in the middle of chewing her twig to call a confirmation before returning to her prior action. Nero seemed to relax slightly but he approached slowly, eyes never leaving the two unknowns near his trainer. Once he was closer, he moved to the side of the chair Nicole was in and sat down, eyes never leaving the unknown Pokemon and their trainer as he did so.
Nicole shook her head at this, her attention fully set on the cautious Vulpix, while her good hand stayed on Phaedra's back. "Oh would you stop that? If they had planned to hurt me, they would have done so by now." She said getting a dead-panned look from Nero. "Okay, so yes, I'm about to have splinters pulled from my knee, but you, good sir, have gotten worse tangled in your fur that I have had to remove from my own hands later. You know what I mean though." She huffed. Nero did his equivalent of an eye roll, and returned his eyes back to the unknowns. "Vuuuul."
Rolling her own eyes, Nicole motioned to Orchid. "This is Orchid, the Kangaskhan is his friend. He also has a Turtwig." She introduces the ones helping her hoping it'll make Nero relax more. It does... But only about two levels.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
See? She doesn't even understand you. She's too innocent. You aren't going to convince her. Please...just leave her alone.
A dense, dark growl came from Marcus' open mouth as his hands shakily closed slowly around Astina's neck. The voice that came from his mouth now sounded nothing like its host. "You're right. There is no point in talking." The spirit lifted Astina off the ground by the throat, ignoring her Pokemon and brought her face up to Marcus' height. "Now you'll learn how dangerous the world really is, child."
Sofa walked around looking for Marcus, when he smelled a familiar scent and followed it, moving around the mansion. He walked past ghosts left and right; but they all ignored him, thinking there was no fun in going after a normal type. Sofa did his best to keep Lex covered so they wouldn't see him and change their minds.
Sofa saw the edge of a coat as he turned a corner and was getting tired of chasing after her; so he just called out to Maya in a voice a bit too loud for the situation, "SLAAAAAAAAA-KING!"
Maya almost hopped right out of her boots at the huge bellow that roared from down the hall. She whirled, Dororo on her shoulder and ready to fire off a water pulse should he need to. Instead, they both were relieved to instead see Sofa barreling down the hall. Under any other circumstances she would be freaked out but this was a relief.
"Sofa!" She called, going up to meet him. "Where is Marcus? Has something happened to him?"
You won't find him in timeeeeee~
Maya blinked as she heard the ghostly taunt coming from her bag. It was that stowaway Litwick. Evidently she would have to stick another charm on the Pokeball if she didn't want the Pokemon randomly speaking to her in the way only her senses could hear.
"What do you mean?" She asked, aloud, surprising Dororo.
He is going after that younger priestess and he isn't very happyyyyyyy~
There was a childish giggle at the end and Maya huffed. Another ghost must have gotten to him during his unconscious state... a younger priestess?
"Fuck," she swore, ripping a tag off her arm and then another. The headache became sharper but so did her senses. Sure enough she could sense the living presences (wow a lot of people are here...) in this mansion among all the dead and spiritual ones. Including, Marcus and another living presence with him...
"I know where he is! We must hurry! Please cover me!" She quickly turned back down the hallway heading for the stairs up. She carefully pulled out a few sealing needles from her bag and carefully tucked them in her sleeves.
Astina gasped for air as Marcus' hands circled around her neck and restricted her breathing. She wanted to remain calm like her teacher had taught her, but something about having very little air to survive on made it hard to remain calm. She also didn't want to attack the ghost to show that she really didn't mean it any harm, but she couldn't just let it kill her and cause trouble for her tribe when she didn't return like she promised. Quartz rose into the air and shot seeds at Marcus in an attempt to save her trainer.
Marcus would have bent over from the seeds shot to his stomach if he was in control of his body; but all he could do was feel it. His body continued to stand up straight as his grip slowly tightened; Marcus' mental strength wavering. The spirit did tighten Marcus' face in slight pain, but was too focused to let it stop him. "Now you'll feel the pain your kind has given me for centuries." The aura around Marcus' hands started to glow dark, almost as if they were absorbing all light around them.
Sofa sprinted ahead, finally getting Marcus' scent. He made it to the doorway well ahead of Maya. He saw Marcus standing with a black aura around him and an atmosphere in the room that, just being near it, was physically hurting Lex. Before Sofa could go into the room, however, the door slammed shut in his face; seemingly by itself.
*Oh, hell no.*
Sofa placed Lex down on the ground, *Stay right here.* and then kicked the door off its hinges. The spirit lost its concentration, spinning Marcus' head around as his hands lost their aura. "Oh, joy. It's the ape." He threw Astina down on the ground and faced Sofa, Marcus' eyes still burning in dark flames. *Yeah, it's the ape. Now we can do this the easy way* Sofa cracked his knuckles intimidatingly, *or the hard way.*
The spirit let out a laugh fit for a supervillian, holding Marcus' stomach in his evil bellows. "Don't try and scare me, boy; there is nothing you have to intimidate me with. What are you going to do, beat up your brother? All that'll accomplish is leave him with some bruises and broken bones. You'd be surprised what the human body can do if you ignore their pain; nothing compared to the pain I've been through. Do you honestly expect me to believe you can force me out of this body?"
Sofa just let a sly smile creep across his face, *No, not really;* then pointed his thumb over his shoulder. *but she can.*
Maya charged up after Sofa. He was surprisingly fast for his size and she heard a crack and splinter of wood. She ran through the broken doorway, just behind Sofa as he jabbed a thumb behind him.
The aura around Marcus was strong, sickeningly so, and if she were a weaker, less trained priestess she would have gagged. With practiced motion three sealing needles slipped into her fingers from her sleeve and she flung the three of them right at Marcus. Three might have been extreme but she wasn't taking any chances. Once the needles connected with a possessed person they would become immobile before the needles would purge whatever spirit was haunting them out. Any part of the body would do. (She avoided the heart and head due to her own anxiety). Then the needles could take care of the spirit once it left.
