On the third floor of the mansion, Astina was meditating with Ruby floating around her and Quartz sitting in her lap. She had come to this place in hopes of finding more Ghost type Pokemon for her team and for a bit of spiritual training before she went and found her tribe once more, but she hadn't come across any. She was waiting patiently, trying to channel all of her spiritual energy to call forth the ghosts that were sure to be around this place. Ruby nudged her slightly, letting her know that there was something nearby, but Astina refused to open her eyes until she was sure it was a ghost.
Nicole let out a tiny laugh at that. "Well... Funny you should say that...." She said looking at the second Pokeball on her backpack strap. "I happen to still have a Pokemon on me that could probably help." With that she took the Pokeball from the strap and held it in front of her. "Hey, Phaedra, I know I promised that I would show you the Desert Wastes... And I will keep that promise, but for now do you mind lending a hand here?" She asked opening the Pokeball. In a flash of light, a Fennekin appeared with a small call. After that the Fennekin tilted it's head at Nicole, wagging its tail slightly. Nicole gave it a small smile and pointed at the candles. "Can you use a tiny ember on each of those candles?" She asked. Phaedra gave the candles a look. "Fennekin." She said shaking her head. Nicole bit her lip. "Yeah... They are a little high up for you aren't they?" She sighed.
Meanwhile, Nero was getting closer to the source of the crying, only to stop and stare at the scene in front of him. There, on the ground, was a sleeping Slaking with a Wynaut crying on its arms. Walking over cautiously, he softly called out. "Vulpix, Vul?" *Are you two alright?*
The body formerly known as Marcus walked right up to Maya and stopped in front of her; blocking her path. His blackened eyes seemed as if he was looking at someone just past Maya; yet he appeared to be talking to her, since he was pointing right at her for the first half of his scolding, twisting his finger around as if he was pointing at Maya like she was an object. "What do you think you're doing, young lady? You have no business in here. You're only going to end up hurting yourself and your toys. I don't have time to deal with you right now; I've got bigger problems. Leave the more dangerous fun to those of us with more experience."
Lex turned around and saw the Vulpix and hopped in between Sofa's belly and his arm for protection. He waited for a few seconds, then climbed out and touched the Vulpix's face to make sure he was real; and then he fell and hugged Nero's leg crying, saying a lot of garbled Wynauts that were incomprehensible, every now and then actually saying clearly a *dad* or *sleep* through his crying that Nero could have understood.
“That’s a shame,” Xenneth said with a lowly smile, “Here I was expecting to see what that Pokemon can do. I never seen anything like it before.”
His disappointment was genuine this time. Xenneth seemed to stare at the small Pokemon that was revealed from the Pokeball only staring in slight bewilderment. He had seen nothing like it! It was at that time that Xenneth wondered if the Pokemon was from a region he had not heard of or explored.
The world of Pokemon was still so vast!
“Skhaaaaan!”
There was a playful little cry. It was too petite to come from the massive Kangaskhan mother, and it was much lower in height. It made Xenneth’s eyes avert downward towards the pouch on the Kangaskhan mother’s lap that bulged slightly. Afterwards, a small purple young Kangaskhan child peaked its head from the pouch and leapt outward after standing on the carpet and looking up to the candles. The Pokemon was quick, breaking off into a little sprint, as it climbed upon its mother’s tail and pointed upward to the Kangaskhan mother who looked down with a still stare and a puzzled expression while the Kangaskhan child pointed towards the Fennekin.
“You want to use your mother...like stairs?” The Kangaskhan mother’s eyes bucked with bewilderment, but the child was happily leaping up and down on the mother’s tail as if joyous that Xenneth understood its plan. Xenneth, looking to the Kangaskhan mother, Xenenth had a sly smile upon his face. “Well....come on! He’ll be happy if his idea works! A mother should believe in her child!”
The Kangaskhan mother frowned, shook her head, but submitted as she pointed her nose upward to the candle fixture and her body slumped over slightly as if she was a living staircase. The Kangaskhan child chimed happily as it begun to walk on the scaled mother’s body with ease because of how rigged and easy to grip it was. The child stopped and begun leaping up and down in a happy fashion once again as if it was cheering the Fennekin to join it.
At this point, it seemed like it was playing rather than trying to light the candles.
“She doesn’t usually have an idea,” Xenneth said looking to Nicole and her Fennekin, “But when she does, they are quite the sight to see.”
His smile was suggestive towards following the Kangaskhan child’s idea, even if the mother was staring towards the candles with a display of dedication and a loss of some of her pride.
The blank flickering eyes looked at Marcus in amusement and then Maya's head cocked to the side and her lips twisted into a smile. She giggled. Dororo quickly slunk away, realizing that he needed to get her bag back. He ran back to the back entrance.
"Ara~" Though the voice was Maya's, the inflection and sing song sound of it was wrong. It also had a slight echo, as if a hushed voice was being spoken with it at the same time. "But this is so fun! She has so much spiritual power! It is like a moth to a flame and I got here first."
Maya's body swung about playfully, spinning around to some imagined music as she danced her way around Marcus. "Your kind is far to serious~" She sang, knocking an already cracked and dusty vase off a hall table.
Phaedra looked a little unconvinced at the baby Kangaskhan. Even though the mother looked like it was okay with it, she still didn't want to take chances. Curiously, she looked over at her trainer and tilted her head as though to ask if it was truly okay for her to do what the baby Pokemon wanted. Nicole gave her a small reassuring smile. "I think it will be okay. The mother seems to be willing to go along with this." She spoke softly. "And if it does work, I have some twigs in my bag you can have to snack on." She encouraged. This perked the Fennekin's attention and thus caused her to run over to the Kangaskan mother, only slowing to cautiously make her way, gently, up her back to her head. Upon reaching the target area, she gave a small "Fennekin..." in apology before she got to work on the candles she could now reach.
Nero stood frozen as the little Pokemon clung to his leg and cried. He had never been put in a situation like this before and it slightly unnerved him. Slowly, so as not to make himself out to be a threat, he moved to nuzzle the little Wynaut. "Vulpix Vul... Vulpix Vul Vul? Vulpix Vul Vulpix." *It'll be alright... Do you trust me to wake your friend? We can try to find your dad afterwards.* Boy did Nero hope he was getting the situation right.
'Marcus' was getting visibly annoyed at 'Maya' and followed after her, as if he was going to walk right through her. "This is exactly why I don't like you ghost type pokemon. You're too young to appreciate what you've got. I'm tired of being your keeper, Ellylldan." Marcus' hand grabbed Maya's arm just above her elbow and spun her around as the vase floated back up into place, all of the pieces coming back together, cracks and all; as if it had been knocked over countless times before. "If you weren't so childish, you'd appreciate that you have a priestess here and understand how dangerous it is to mess with their kind."
Marcus' left index and middle fingers reached out and tapped Maya's forehead lightly, knocking her back. "There. Now try having fun with half of her spiritual power. This is for your own good; you're lucky she's so unstable right now or else I wouldn't have been able to do that. Now you'll get out of her body before she breaks that barrier if you know what's good for you. Forced detachment is not a good feeling; I can tell you from experience, especially from someone with strong spiritual power. And stop breaking things." Marcus' body spun around quickly and walked towards the stairs leading to the third floor. -sigh- Now for the kid...
Lex stood up and wiped his eyes, a slight smile coming back to his face as he didn't feel quite as bad as earlier now that he had someone to talk to. Yet, he shook his body in a "no" motion at Nero waking Sofa up. *I'll do it. He won't like you if you wake him up.* Lex then walked over to Sofa, who was still laying on his side. It hadn't even been an hour's rest, and Lex was worried that they weren't going to be able to wake him up at all. He stood in front of Sofa's face thinking about what to do, and then an idea came; making his smile grow just a bit more.
He shoved at Sofa's huge body in an attempt to move him, putting all his force into shoving him. Sofa rolled onto his back like Lex wanted, but for a completely unrelated reason; yet Lex still felt triumphant at moving the behemoth, hopping up and down happily. He then lifted up Sofa's arm as best he could and stood underneath it. His balloon-like body looked squished underneath the arm; his face was scrunched up all funny. He then threw up the arm as high as possible; which wasn't that high, and as it fell, a bright orange outline started to form around Alexander.
'Maya' stuck her tongue out as he retreated. "I hope this priestess banishes you!" She shouted. She stared at the repaired vase and shoved it off the table again in spite before skipping away back down the hall, also happy that the stupid water Pokemon ceased following. "To the ballroom~!" She sang twirling her way down the hall and heading down for the ground floor.
Dororo made it back to where they entered to find Lex, a completely kaput Sofa, and a Vulpix. He made a concerned croaking noise as the baby Pokemon attempted to shove the huge Slaking. However, he had more important things to address. He picked up the bag that Maya had discarded, slung it awkwardly around him, the bag dragging behind him on the floor.
Marcus leaned in the doorway of one of the rooms in the attic, his arms crossed and left leg crossed over the right with a devilish smirk on his face. He looked at the Misdreavus glaring at him and gave her a wink. The warped voice that came out of Marcus’ mouth dripped with sarcasm,
“You know, for being a priestess, you aren’t doing a very good job of it. You’re not putting barriers up in your mind, you’re not sporting any kind of physical protection from spirits. No amulets, blessed objects, not even a *chuckle* cross; although those sticks never work anyway unless they were held by some priest as he died. The point is, I know your name, your past, your insecurities, and your fears; which is the most important thing a priest should keep from those like me. On top of that, although your spiritual power is very high for your age, none of us would have a hard time breaking through it. Over half of us could crush your mind if we wanted to, and I'm just a run of the mill spect'; and your only protection from that is your two young Pokemon."
Marcus' body stood up straight and entered the room slightly, with two or three steps before standing still once more, arms still crossed and stance still relaxed. "Aside from all that, you do realize being exorcised isn't at the top of the list of things ghosts want, right? Why do you think we’ve been ignoring you? Why would we come to you when you try and tempt us just so you can play ghost hunter?” Marcus’ face suddenly became dark and serious; the energy in the air was palpable, saying the final sentence with gritted teeth. “Now, I don’t know why our house is so popular with the spiritually adept all the sudden, but I can speak for all of us when I say…stop trespassing. We don't like your kind. Get off our land.”
Lex Countered the arm as it fell and sent it back into Sofa's face, forcing him to smack himself. The arm came falling down again and out of instinct, Lex Countered again. This time the smack was audible, shaking Sofa's face and body, making it jiggle. He shook his head for a second as he came back to consciousness and looked over at Lex with glazed over eyes. *What? I'm tired...*
Lex hopped up and down while talking quickly, *Dad was hit by some scary white cloud thing, and then he hit me and I'm scared and I need you.*
Sofa groaned his disapproval of this situation as he rolled over onto his side to sit up, looking at Nero. *Slow down, what's going on? And who is this?*
Ruby's smoke like body seemed to billow with unease as Marcus came towards her partner while Quartz stared up in question from their human's lap. Astina herself did not open her eyes as the ghost talked to her through its host, deciding to remain calm and collected even with her insides jumping with excitement to be contacted. "I am not trying to fight with any of you. I don't wish to exorcise any of you or harm any of you with my powers. I am only here to work on my communication with the spirits of this world before I return to my teacher for more training."
She opened her eyes slowly to see a human in front of her and a look of confusion crossed her young features.
"Okay...you're too young and naive to understand the gravity of the situation, so let me put it like this..." The specter walked Marcus' body forward, slowly taking steps towards the young priestess in training. "You're in a house FULL of bitter, resentful ghosts that have had friends and loved ones removed from existence by people just like you. You have practically no protection from us, no experience to protect yourself from us, and you want us to help you get better at killing our kind."
She's just a kid! She doesn't want to kill you, she even has ghost pokemon.
Marcus' head turned sharply and yelled at the wall before returning his attention to the girl, a slight smile returning to his mouth. "Back in your corner! So here's how this is going to go, Astina: You leave, I make you leave or my friends rip you to shreds."
The floorboards started to warp and the shutters shook to make the point they weren't alone in the room.
Maya, or rather the Pokemon that borrowed her body swung from a few ballroom chandeliers giggling madly. The ballroom appeared to one be elegant and sophisticated but now it looked aged and a shadow of its former beauty. She swung to the next one as the one she had been on crashed to the floor in an explosion of glass and bits of metal.
"Hahaha~! Boom~!" She laughed, kicking her legs out into a swing. Dororo appeared then, croaking frantically to see his trainer up on a chandelier, and rifled around in the bag. 'Maya' hung upside down and laughed before letting herself fall.
"Frooga!" He shrieked. 'Maya' merely tumbled and halted inches above the floor, floating, before flipping and landing on her feet.
"Scared ya~!" She laughed, before pouting. "You're really annoying you know. You keep following me around. Your trainer is mine now. No matter how much she struggles. She is like fly paper for us ghost Pokemon and we love it!"
"Frogaaaaa!" Dororo croaked, with a scowl and clearly wasn't amused. With lightning quick reflexes Dororo moved his hand from the bag and slapped a cleanse tag on her forehead. 'Maya' stumbled back.
"Hey!" She cried, voice warbling. Her eyes began to flicker a bright green. Without waiting Dororo began slapping more tags on to her. Her legs, arms, stomach, everywhere.
"W-wait!"
GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BODY!
The Pokemon felt her control slip and that was all Maya needed. She gave a mental shove, bolstered by her powers and a blue orb of fire burst out of her chest. The orb of fire flickered and in front of her appeared a small Litwick with a disgruntled face.
“She’s quite nice,” Xenneth noted to Nicole as he looked up to the Kangaskhan mother, “When she wants to be that is.”
There was a huff blown from the nostrils of the Kangaskhan mother. They were a hint of playfulness that cane from her embarrassment; only something her Xenneth seemed to understand over their short amount of time. How a gentle little feministic boy had the respect of such a gentle giant was even beyond him, but he was glad it was there. With the Kangaskhan child playfully jumping on its mother’s head, stable as she could be in her reach for the candles, Xenneth had only watched for a little while before looking to Nicole.
His curiosity partially divided.
“I’ve never seen a Pokemon like that,” he had remarked, “May I ask where you come from? My family is from Celadon City, and even with their business, we see some foreign Pokemon, but just not like that one. You offered it twigs, right? But it’s a fire-type?”
It was true. The Fennekin was truly interesting to Xenneth. It was a fire-type Pokemon that seemed to have an affinity for the strangest types of food, at least in his opinion. He was still exploring the world of Pokemon, in his own way now, not to ever again traverse it in his own tyrannical manner he once did. The violet haired boy retained a fascinating smile, letting the grateful moment of pure interest wash away what was a past memory of a chaotic character that was once himself.
Nicole smiled lightly at the relationship between Orchid and his Pokemon. It was clear that they shared a really good relationship. However, the question about where she was from made her bite her lip briefly as she wondered what it was about everyone telling each other where they were from. Sighing she watched as Phaedra took a deep breath and let out a steady amount of extremely small embers to light the candles on the wall.
"I'm from Mauville City in Hoenn. However, the Fennekin species is more common in the Kalos region. I happened upon her by chance. Why she was in an area such as the area around this place, I have no clue, but she was here. Also, Fennekins love twigs. I haven't the faintest of ideas why, but they do. That's actually part of how I found her... She was munching on some twigs. Nero, my Vulpix, kind of talked her into coming with me, and I promised to take her to the Desert Wastes since it's dryer and hotter there than anywhere else on this continent... Or so I think." She explained. "As you can see though... This is not the desert and at the moment I have to put that promise into the 'to complete soon' folder in the filing cabinet called life."
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
Astina listened quietly while the ghost before her spoke, trying to hear its true complaint for her being there. It was a moment before she spoke, choosing to do so softly in hopes of calming the spirit before her. "I do not wish to harm you in any way. I only wish to talk to spirits such as yourself and help them if I can. My teacher showed me that spirits are beings themselves with their own wants like anyone else. I respect spirits and only wish to help them get their wants before they pass on by their own choice."
