Eira wondered what Z was up to by making the water heat up. Was he trying to get rid of her only advantage or was he hoping that the water would remain hot and harm Walrein the next time he tried to escape? Either way, Eira knew she had to take advantage of him attacking the water while she still could. "Walrein! Use Water Pulse!"
Walrein charged up a ball of water before it shot rings of water towards Sparky, the ball of water quickly following behind to give it multiple attacks in one. Eira was glad that all of her contest training was paying off in this gym battle.
Sparky jumped to another rock as the lake of water began to reach temperatures similar to those found in a natural hot spring. Soon Walrin wouldn't be able to take the heat, due to it being an ice type. Heck, soon a fire type wouldn't like it either as nobody likes getting boiled alive. Sparky continued to blast fire into the water, relying on her fire type to give her the strength needed to keep the assault up.
Eira could feel the air around her start to heat up as the water began to boil away and cause heated steam to rise around them. If she was beginning to sweat in this heat, she could only imagine how Walrein must be feeling being right down in the mix of things. At this point, Eira knew she only had two options, allow Walrein to faint or to use her back up move that was a sure fire way to cool things down and possibly take out Sparky too. The only downside to that move though, was that it took a lot of energy out of Walrein, so she could typically only use it once or maybe twice if it was the only two moves used. Stealing herself for what was to come, Eira shouted down to her partner. "Use Sheer Cold!"
Walrein roared as he expended most of his energy to create an arctic blast that immediately froze the boiling water and much of the surrounding area, which, along with the hail that was going on, created the perfect environment for the Ice type.
"That was unexpected," said Z as sparky dodged out of the way of the cold wave, "Sparky, use Sky uppercut on Waliren!" Sparky nodded and shot at Waliren, jumping from rock to rock as it headed toward the larger pokemon. Her fist began to glow with energy as she charged and she prepared to deal a powerful punch to the larger pokemon with her fist. as she neared Walren Z called out, "watch out for any ice or water attacks he might throw at you."
"Water Pulse!" Eira called as Sparky drew near Walrein, hoping her partner had enough time to do a counterattack. Walrein charged up his attack before sending three rings of water towards Sparky in an attempt to drive her away with what would probably have been a powerful attack. Walrein slid backwards onto the ice as he attacked, trying to put more distance between himself and his opponent while trying to take advantage of his natural terrain.
Sparky twisted out of the way of the Water Pulse, but in doing so, missed her chance to land an attack on Waliren. "Dang," said Z, "looks like close range won't work very well. Sparky, use attract on Waliren again!"
Sparky nodded and blew another kiss at Waliren, sending a stream of hearts flying at the larger pokemon from her beak. Z thought about how to proceed with this battle, the arena was frozen, meaning Eira had the advantage in both type and field, but Sparky was faster overall, and had attract on her side if it could land. Now all she had to do was land a few good punches, but Waliren had that annoying Water pulse to defend itself.
"Slide away Walrein! Use the ice like back home!" Eira called, sending Walrein sliding around the field in order to dodge the Attract with speed that wasn't normal for Walreins unless they were on ice like this. Eira paused to allow Walrein to gain some momentum from sliding around on his stomach before she ordered for an attack herself. "Ice Ball!"
Walrein charged up a small ball of ice before shooting it towards Sparky as he slid passed the Fire type.
the ice attack slammed into Sparky and sent her skidding across the ice and into a wall. Z saw her getting up shakily and decided his next move, "Sparky, let's try that too. Try skating across the ice to deliver a Sky uppercut." *I never thought I'd miss a heatwave.* grumbled sparky before she began attempting to skate across the ice, slowly getting a feel for it until she was moving at a good pace. she than began to channel her energy into her fist as she skated after the larger pokemon.
"She's still new at skating, Walrein, aim for her feet!" Eira instructed as Walrein continued to skate around expertly. She thought the move was a little underhanded, but she also knew that if Sparky's attack hit, then Walrein would take on way too much damage for the fight to continue. Walrein charged up another ball of ice, this one slightly bigger than the last and shot it towards Sparky, particularly towards her lower half.
The shot caused Sparky to stumble and fall, leaving her open for another attack from Waliren. Z looked on worriedly, not wanting his friend to be hurt too badly, even if this is supposed to be a gym battle. Sparky shakily pulled herself to her feet, but she wasn't doing so well in this environment and it was taking its toll on her body. it was too dang cold for her here and it was too cold for her flames to thaw her out.
"Finish this up with a Water Pulse!" Eira called, hoping that one last attack would bring Sparky to the point that Z would call this battle. She didn't like the idea of hurting a friend, even if this was an official gym battle, and Sparky didn't deserve to get hurt too much during this. Walrein stopped sliding around and summoned more water to his mouth before he shot the rings towards Sparky as she began to stand from falling.
The water slammed into Sparky and sent her tumbling across the ground before rolling to a stop with spirals in her eyes.
"Sparky is unable to battle. The winner is Eira!" said the announcer.
"Congratulations," said Z, "that was a good battle and this badge was well earned." Z pulled out a velvet box and opened it to reveal the golden badge that vaguely resembled a shooting star, "This badge is yours. And here is 2000 pokedollers as well."
"Really? Thank you," Eira murmured, honestly surprised that the battle was over and that she had managed to win. She took the badge from Z and admired it for a moment before she turned and held it out for Walrein to see as he tried to approach her. He was having a bit of difficulty, so she slid down some of the iced wall to him and gave him a large hug. "We did it. We actually won a battle!"
Walrein gave a celebratory bark and nuzzled his partner, glad to see her so happy with the results of that tiresome battle. Eira turned to look up at Z with a wide smile. "We will help clean this up, since all of this ice was kind of our fault."
(You can gift me the money, but I'm not too sure about the badge. Akane did that for me when I had to give out mine.)
