With a night sky above the rocky arena floor, the new gym of amateur gym leader Kazi 'Z' Carter stands tall. Built out of a hollowed out meteorite that struck the island many years ago, with a town being build in the surrounding impact crater, Z waited inside for his first challenger.
"I hope I do a decent job running this gym," said Z, "I didn't expect to inherit this place when my relatives called me over." Z flipped open the case that held the badges that he was supposed to give to trainers. "at least the badges look pretty cool."
z stood in the arena of the Starfort Gym and looked at Eira, "Let's have a good battle, kay?"
The Announcer cleared his throat, "This pokemon battle between Gymleader Z and Challenger Eira is about to begin. Two pokemon are allowed to be used with no substitutions. There will be no time limit and items are prohibited. Are the battlers ready?"
Eira worried her lip for a moment at the rules, quickly deciding on who she would use out of her team. With there being no substitutions, she would have to be ready for anything and each of her Pokemon could handle themselves in a tight situations after their bit of practicing last night. It was strange, but she felt calm, almost as if there was nothing for her to worry about as she entered this battle. She nodded, deciding on what Pokemon she would use. "I'm ready."
Z pulled a pokeball off his necklace, "Let's go Pokeball!" he said throwing it into the arena. The ball opened and Alloy landed in the arena stomping a few times before facing off against Eira and whatever pokemon she would choose. to throw into this fight.
Eira frowned in thought at the chosen Pokemon before she decided to go with her top battler. Selecting one of her pokeballs, she threw it out onto the field to reveal a shimmering, dark blue Starmie that was in fact her newly evolved Shimmer. She hoped the boost in stats that the evolution gave Shimmer would also give them the win against Alloy. "Alright Shimmer, let's see just how good your evolution is!"
"Alloy," said Z, "use power up punch!" Alloy channeled orange energy to one of its claws and rushed at Shimmer, aiming to slam it into the starfish like pokemon. alloy wasn't the fastest pokemon so he wasn't able to dash towards the smaller pokemon, but he did have a lot of power behind his attack and it would get stronger with this attack. Z watched, trying to get a feel for Shimmer's new abilities.
With its ever moving back half, Shimmer was prepared to dodge out of the way of the slow attack and managed to do so with ease as it flew across the field. Eira was fearful of the power that was clearly behind that attack, knowing that Shimmer's defense wasn't that great. Resolving herself to keep things long distance, Eira decided to go on the attack instead of just dodging like in her last battle. "Use Surf!"
It took Shimmer a moment to summon up its attack, but then it managed to flood the field with massive waves of water.
Z signaled to an announcer and the platforms rose to keep the trainers from getting drenched. "Alloy," said Z, "Power through and use Meteor Mash on that pokemon." Alloy gave a grunt and began wading through the water, using its bulk and weight to keep from being swept away. rainbow energy gathered on one of its claws as it walked toward starmie from under the water, holding its breath so it wouldn't drown.
Eira frowned when the waves didn't seem to effect the large Steel type any before an idea struck her. Water was notorious for conducting electricity and they had just managed to cover the entire field in water, making it difficult to escape and making an electrical attack even stronger. "Shimmer! Jump and use Thunderbolt on the water!"
Shimmer jumped high into the air, its back half spinning quickly to give it height before it unleashed a massive electrical current back down and into the water.
Alloy roared in pain as the shocks coursed through him and managed to leap out of the water right in front of shimmer with a Meteor Mash aimed right at it's body. Alloy slammed its attack into Shimmer before using it's psychic power to float itself above the water as residual charge flowed through it, causing it to wince. "Nice job alloy," said Z, "Get ready for her next attack though."
Shimmer flew back into the wall at the force of Alloy's attack, barely holding on with its weak defenses.
"Use Recover!" Eira called to her companion, knowing that that move was Shimmer's only chance to keep going. Shimmer began to glow as it quickly healed its wounds almost to the point that it had started at before it jumped high so it could get back into the battle. Eira thought quickly as Shimmer healed, knowing that another hit like that could easily spell defeat for Shimmer even with Recover taking the edge off. She had to end this quickly if she was to keep Shimmer around.
"Alloy," said Z, "float above the water and hit it with a power up punch!"
Alloy raised one of its legs and prepared to slam it into the water pokemon, calculating the best angle to approach from and where the pokemon would be most likely to move to to dodge his attack so he could intercept it. Alloy's claw glowed and it flew toward Shimmer, readying a powerful punch at the starfish pokemon's core, aiming to send it flying away.
Shimmer flew out of the way of the attack, its back half spinning rapidly to give it more maneuverability as it avoided the extremely large Pokemon it was facing off against. Shimmer skimmed along the water almost like it was skating across it before Eira realized that Shimmer would do better below the water than above since Alloy couldn't swim.
"Dive!" Shimmer sunk below the water, still moving but not causing the water to shift too much as it moved around the field to stay out of Alloy's reach.
"Alloy," said Z, "use Rock Slide." Alloy roared and rocks began to fall into the water that filled the lower part of the gym. The rocks continued to fall into the water, sinking into it in an attempt to slam into shimmer as it hid under the waves. the rocks also made the water a bit more choppy as they splashed down and churned the water up. soon the water would be filled with boulders that had fallen.
Shimmer attempted to swim through the water as the rocks came down upon it until it was eventually thrown from the water and up into the air. With so many rocks around, it was practically impossible to use the water that had covered the field for any form of protection, so Shimmer landed atop one of the rocks as it waited for its trainer's command. Eira thought for a moment, thinking that if the rocks were troubling Shimmer, then they must be troubling Alloy's ability to move. "Use Thunderbolt!"
Shimmer charged up some electricity as it waited for a pause in the falling rocks before it shot the bolt of lightning towards its opponent.
