Zandrophin sat at his desk...the light of a single lamp and the full moon over Pyron bay filling the space. The open window let in a cool seabreeze that kept the room at a decent temperature for the cold-natured man, helping him stay relaxed and focused. He needed both...especially considering what he was doing: trying to understand something. Mentus was floating around the room, playing with Ardiuba's mane as he napped.
That girl, Nicole...who is she, old friend?...She seemed so familiar...
I agree, Sir....but I'm as lost as you are.
Zandrophin sat back in his chair and ran his fingers through his hair. He looked back at his desk, which was covered in documents and dossiers collected by his family on anyone who they knew or was worth knowing...all stolen from the archives before he left. Finding out who this woman was had been on his mind for so long, and he'd been spending the last few days sifting through the files..and he still had easilly 100 still to look through. Zandrophin stood up and began to pace around.
Alright, old friend...we've got to narrow this down. She has Pokemon with her...which of these families would be accepting of their child cavorting with Pokemon?
Well, Sir...that eliminates most of these groups...since only 5 had any offspring. These would be the Avten, Ytherak, Huot, Nierbay, and Everfield families.
Zandrophin held up his hand. He flew over to his desk, rapidly searching through the documents, until he found the dossier he was looking for.
Wait...the Everfields...they had a daughter...but she disappeared...
Yes, Sir...10 years ago. She's presumed dead. After the death of Mr. and Mrs. Everfield, your family planned on overtaking all of the Everfields' asssets, since the only heir to the fortune is dead, by all accounts...and no other member of that family can stand against your family...
Zandrophin cracked a small smile. The Everfields may have been almost as powerful as his family once...but without their leaders, they were little more than a disorganized rabble. He would've orchestrated that takeover..if things hadn't gone so bad. Then another thought came to his mind,
Perhaps we can still have that takeover...but perhaps we can get the heiress to the Everfield fortune to take that position. Mentus...get my pack. We've got an errand to run at first light.
Just before dawn broke, Zandrophin headed off towards the Desert Wastes to the west. By midday the next day, he had reached his destination. It was very hot in this desert, so he released Squirt and used his MegaStone to evolve him. The Blastoise began to spray water into the air, creating a refreshing mist. Zandrophin looked around and saw a series of tunnel entrances dug into the ridgeline all around him.
Sir, these tunnels run through the entire cliffside...it's very impressive.
Zandrophin nodded in agreement and kept walking. They walked deeper into the valley and were suddenly set upon by a noise...a shrill screeching that echoed off the rocks.
Bug Buzz, Sir! We've been spotted!
Zandrophin covered his ears to protect them from the sound, Squirt withdrew into his shell.
Can you identify the source?
Mentus searched for a bit, and then sensed a Vivillion hiding in one of the caves. He created a box using Psychic, and put the noisemaker inside of it, silencing the noise. He pulled the box out of the caves to show Zandrophin, who just watched the Pokemon fly around inside the box, trying to get out. Squirt brought his head out of his shell and aimed one of his arm cannons at the bug.
An alarm, no doubt...I'll bet we're in the right place. Now....what to do with this? I've got it....let's toss it off one of the cliffs...the rocks at the bottom look a bit less than comfortable...
