The red-haired queen had met with and "summoned" or maybe even threatened the little girl that had almost captivated the hearts of not only herself, but her citizens. Just what is with that child? One would initially think of her as a mere fly, but it seems she is more bloodthirsty than I originally thought. She shook her head, her elegant headpiece jingled as she did so forcing her to hold it still again.
How should I go about asking this child her intentions? Does she have some greater goal? What is she up to? Her thoughts were trying every possible calculation she could fathom. She learned long ago to not under-estimate children; and not only did she learn so, she forced others to realize it too. It was as if this child was stepping over Akane's shadow; however, she hoped, she wouldn't begin to follow it.

Nicole gave a small huff as she was lead to where she was to be meeting the Celosian Queen, glancing at the guards who were leading her every once in a while. She honestly didn't know what the woman wanted, all she knew is that once she had made her new home, she had suddenly been ordered to appear in Ignacia. So here she was, being paraded through the hall in a very fugitive like manner... Or something like that, she could have been overreacting. Soon though, the halls changed and a pair of doors loomed in front of her and the guards making her give a small glare that she instantly blinked away as the doors were opened.
The room she was ushered into was huge and slightly more Gothic than the rest of the palace. That, however, was not what she had her eyes trained on. With slightly narrowed eyes, Nicole's attention was drawn to Akane. Slowly she forced a small smile on her face. "I would say it is nice to see you again, but I kinda don't like the circumstances that brought this meeting about." She said, moving forward slightly when the guards moved aside slightly. "Mind if I let Nero out? I didn't want him to do something stupid while I was on my way here. He'll be under control, I promise, but he didn't appreciate the threatening any more than I did."
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
The younger woman finally was brought to her attention, and brought to her in body. her guards were told to be wary, for the child could be dangerous; however, if she was smart she wouldn’t do anything to upset the largest growing kingdom on the tiny continent.
”Guards leave.” The guards departed. ”As long as you don’t mind if I release my Doom.” She tossed the duskball upwards releasing the puppy in a big dog’s body.
”I promise he’s better behaved than the last time you encountered him.”
Doom trotted back to his master’s side for her to gently stroke his head as she calculated her thoughts.
”I also apologize for you perceiving this as threatening.” On the outside, stone; the inside, a laugh at the truth and falseness that lied behind her statement.
”Excuse me for such a personal question so soon. May I ask how old are you?” Once the woman answered the question, she could know for sure what her fears over this child were. ”My guards have informed me that you have conquered a piece of the desert wastelands. They have seen a miniscule settlement over the ridge and I assumed, it was you.” Her tone was pleasant, with dark undertones.
Depending on her answers right here, right now, about her goals, intentions, anything could lead to an alliance, and ambivalence, or her instant death. I hope for the child’s sake, it either of the latter statements.

Nicole reached for the pokeball on her backpack that contained her best friend. As soon as she opened it, Nero took his place at her side, glaring at Akane with distrust. "Down Nero, we're not here to fight." Nicole said placing her hand on the Ninetails' head. Nero let out a huff and stood down at those words, though he still kept an eye on the Houndoom at the other woman's side.
When the queen asked her age, Nicole felt one of her eyebrows raise in question. "You don't know how old I am? I could have sworn you did." She started before shaking her head slightly and deciding to answer not only the age question, but the question about the Jagged Ridge. "I'm fourteen, and yes, the settlement on the Jagged Ridge is mine. It's my new home." She stated in confirmation. "Why do you want to know?"
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
The queen turned away. She had to fight back her own memories of her past self, the self that cast the steady feet of the shadow that stood before the young woman. ”Why do you want to know?” She asked. Why should I tell the likes of you? You who gave your information up so quickly. A sly smile wrenched her lips into a small grin.
”I want to know, because simply it is my job to know.”
After a few moments in utter silence the queen finally turned to face to younger woman. Sizing her up, running her hands along Doom’s horns, and finally returning her glance back at Nicole.
”I want to know even further, is the northern part of the desert wastes enough to satisfy you?”
A flashback spilled out behind her eyes. Yes. All I want is Enya. Then I will be satisfied. An echoed voice that sounded much like hers. I will unite Pyron and Enya together, all into one government. The voice grew darker and darker as her memories did. The sensation of realizing she would never be satisfied, began to numb her body to the memories and pain of reality.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Nicole continued to hold her eyebrow up in question as she stared at the queen in front of her. "Do you think me some sort of conquer? I took the Jagged Ridge, because I wanted somewhere to live away from other people, and because the desert has always been my home! No sane person would go to that place because no one knows how to survive in the area." She stated, finally lowering her eyebrow as she moved to close her eyes and shake her head. Nero gave a huff in agreement to what Nicole was saying while finally taking a seat by Nicole side. "Are you scared of me or something? You make it seem like I'm doing something wrong! I just want a home that is away from a lot of people! Away from my past! Away from the responsibilities that would fall on my shoulders if I was to go back to the mainland!" She finally said before looking away trying to play off what she had just said. Why had she just blabbed that? Seriously? Why the heck did she just outright say the last sentence.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
The child that was next to her was unsettled so easily, but then again, she was young, needed to learn to control herself. Her last sentence only showed further her insolence, as well as her path’s alignment. She’s too close to me. She might actually be a threat.
”You needn’t get so upset, I’m only asking you questions. I’m curious about you. It is not easy to conquer land for yourself. Not to mention you’re so young.”
She knew what she wanted to ask, but she didn’t know how to ask it without offending her too much. Besides, if the mountains in the desert was enough to satiate her, then she need not worry, in fact she may have even bothered to support the child until she was old enough. It haunted her, the mirror image she was seeing in the young woman’s eyes of her past self.
Am I really the same person I once was? No. less insane, more determined. More free. And freedom is what she has and I don’t anymore. She began to question her own life at that point, but was soon snapped back by Nicole’s antsy childish body.
”So you wish to erase your past. Making a new home is a good start.” No, see. She made her own new home. I just took and old one from someone and made it new. She isn’t like me. She isn’t worthless.
”Have you decided what you’re going to do with it?” The questions were simple, innocent enough.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Nicole was surprised by the question. What was she going to do with it? She was going to live there for one thing, that was a given, but what else was she going to do? She then thought about the cave she had found and an idea came to her, almost spur of the moment. “I’m obviously going to have my new home there as said but… I was thinking… Maybe I could make a contest hall there as well.” The idea was said before it was thoroughly thought through, but it was said and done, and there was no way to take it back. Though the more she thought about it, the more Nicole was beginning to like the idea.
“And for reference, the only reason I am getting upset is because I feel like my life is on the line with whatever word choice I make. I’m not an idiot. I may be young, but I have survived by myself, while being raised by Nero when he was a Vulpix. I had to learn how to get by on what I could find and what I could make off of selling things I found while I traveled the desert of Hoenn. In a sense, I haven’t been a child since I was five, though, I am childish at times, and I don’t know how to deal with social situations, and I snap when least expected, I can never truly be considered a complete child.” Where that speech had come from, Nicole had no idea, but she had said it, and now it was out in the open, and she wasn’t done yet.
“Yes, I wish to erase my past. But I’m sure that someday it will catch up with me. Until then I just want to live a relatively peaceful life where it won’t affect me. All that I am is not defined by a name slapped on after the name I was given by my parents. I grew up without that name for nine years, why would I need it now?” This time Nicole felt the rest of her confidence dwindle. Nero, who had been silent the whole time, nudged her hand with his nose to show his support of her. Looking at him briefly, she gave the Ninetails a small smile and a pat on the head before she looked back at Akane.
As she did so, a small thought went through her head. Why are you looking at me the way you are right now?
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
A contest hall? Just like me… someone from Hoenn, I wonder? Someone from the place where contests were the battles. Her memories almost warmed her rotten heart. She tuned back in in time to hear the girl justify herself to the queen who already knew she was no moron after her excellent contest display. I was right, she is from Hoenn or at least spent much time in the ruins.
”You needn’t justify anything to me, or is it perhaps… you’re trying to convince yourself more than me?” A small but cruel smile formed on her lips before it disappeared again. ”Besides, this is not an adult to a child conversation besides the physical. Do you know how young I was when I conquered Enya, Miss Nicole? I was only sixteen; a mere child only in body like yourself.” She smiled a soft, genuine smile complete with a pleasant expression.
To erase the unease her last statement would cause, she eased the tension.
”That’s an incredible ninetails you have. His elegance and intelligence are both of the highest caliber. Would you mind sharing how you found such a gem? If you haven’t noticed I’m a huge fan of fire types.” She playfully rubbed Doom’s horns, feeling quite comfortable now that Nicole was at least a little more comfortable in her presence. She had tried her best to keep her usual intimidating aura a simple undertone, instead of continually glaring the young brunette in the face.
Contest hall she says…
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Nicole didn't know how to feel about the statements made by the woman in front of her but she decided to just roll with it at the moment. "I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything...." She muttered to herself before she stood up a little straighter ready to address the subject of conquering and age... But decided against it at last minute.
When Akane brought Nero into the conversation though, Nicole froze up, a quick glance going down to the Pokemon who looked back up at her. The two exchanged a clear conversation then, as though trying to figure out whether or not to go with the truthful story or continue the lie that had been going before. Finally, after maybe a few minutes Nicole and Nero both nodded, as though they had come to a clear decision, and Nicole turned her eyes back towards Akane. "How much of a story do you want, might I ask?" She questioned, a strange way to respond to what would have seemed to be a very easy question to answer... if there wasn't something to hide along with the story.
"And don't take that question as insolence, because I'm not buying the whole 'I'm not as intimidating as I look' thing." That last sentence could have been better thought out, but it kinda slipped out before that could happen.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
How much of a story? So the one you tell me will most-likely be a lie. If it means scraping by the current subject, sure. Why not. She sighed, a gesture probably slipping everything she just thought out.
”I will take whatever amount of the story you wish to give me.” Her short response was both and invitation and also a way for her to try and understand this closed off person’s mind, if she had even decided anything.
”I don’t care how intimidating you think I am or not. I know my power, and I know a good amount of yours. I also do not take anything you say as insolence. Just a lack of experience and control, or perhaps, it is entirely controlled. But I care not. I know you are smart enough to know my power versus your own. And I know you will make the best choice for yourself.”
She was beginning to grow bored with the withdrawn attitude of the young woman. But she had an objective for the day, and she wanted to make sure it was accomplished; be it by her severed head on her desk, uneasy relations, or a strange new ally, forged only for the big picture. To quickly see if she could dig up anything, she decided to pry with an incredibly curious subject she learned earlier.
”I also noticed you finally put a last name on your contest entry forms. Everfield? Is there a story behind that? Or at least, one you care to share? I’ve no time for lies right now.” Her expression let slip she intended for something to happen, but it was covered what.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Nicole thought about it for a moment, letting all the questions and the comments made by the woman in front of her sink in. She then looked at Nero who merely canine-shrugged slightly.
“I guess I should take the comment about power as a complement. But I’m going to put that off for now, and answer the questions that you have asked. Nero was given to me when I was a child. How old, I’ll leave up to your own personal imagination. There is your story starter, make your own assumptions. As for my last name… Well, that is a whole other story altogether and one I don’t feel like disclosing at this moment. Take that as you will. That way there is no lies to speak about.” She said quickly and precisely. Nero decided then to head butt her leg and give her a look as though telling her to at least give the woman something, otherwise she would do something else to make this conversation even tenser.
“Oh fine… My last name is important in Hoenn and you can find out why if you look it up. Just know that I really don’t feel like I have a full affiliation with the name, it’s just nice to have.” She finally said giving the Ninetails a dirty look briefly, while at the same time questioning him with her eyes about whether he was happy or not. Nero, in turn gave a small nod of approval.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
The red woman was completely silent. She figured, in the silence, it might persuade her to speak more; but alas it was not needed. The ninetails budged her to trudge on instead. Everfeild? Important? Perhaps I will ask Zandrophin to research it for me later. Nicole spoke about the simple comforts of having a full name. Chuckling, the red lady couldn’t help but comment.
”I know not of the comforts of knowing your full name and original identity, nor do I care to, but the fact someone so young as yourself could reclaim yourself brings hope that maybe one day, one day I might learn my own last name. But that’s for another time. For now, I have other matters to discuss.”
He relaxed, joyful expression quickly retracted back into a stern, business only one. This woman is so much like me, it’s sickening. I need to solidify a deal. Soon.
”Sorry to jump to another subject so soon, but I do have an agenda for today. But I have found I am growing quite fascinated and interested in your efforts. The Jagged Ridge south of my border, it helps protect my kingdom. But it’s also dangerous if taken over by a non-friendly group. So, my proposal is you mentioned a contest hall right?”
She hoped it wasn’t too much for the girl at the time, but the night was stretching on.
”Well running with that idea, a contest hall’s enough to start a town, a town that could grow into a threat to my kingdom. So my proposal is let’s be friends. You can be my vassal until you’re eighteen so everyone will respect you. You will belong to Celosia until then, and then you may claim the ridge entirely for yourself; no longer being just a vassal. But you will then sign a treaty of peace and that you will not attack Celosia for your entire rule. In exchange I’ll fund your contest hall now.”
She waited for it to sink in.
”Unfortunately I do not have a gift on me to show my peace, so… may I ask… what do you want? Within reason, that is.”
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Did this woman know not the definition of whip lash? Nicole felt herself reeling slightly from the suddenness of all the changing topics and emotions. Because of this she found herself staying silent for a long period of time trying to sort everything out into nice organized sentences and topics. Her running a town? Ha! That would be the most ridiculous thing she could do when she could barely run her Pokemon in an orderly fashion (coughRheaandKaicough). The other bits of information she pieced together made her a little uneasy in some ways, but in others it made her a little more secure. Finally she found the words that she needed to put together her response and give it.
“If you promise me the same in not attacking me. I don’t want to wake up one morning with my home overrun by your solders because you got bored one day and decided that I was an easy target. If you feel the need to keep my land, and my life in your hold until I’m a legal adult, fine, whatever, just don’t try to pull the “I’m your mother and I can tell you what to do” card on me and we will get along great. About my contest hall? I would greatly appreciate the help with getting it started. There is one thing I think would work greatly, as the supposed gift of peace, and that-…” Here she paused with a smirk, the thought just crossing her mind as to what she wanted. One of her hands shot up, a finger pointing to the chandelier above her “…Would be that chandelier. I think it would work rather nicely in my contest hall.”
”You are a fool if you think I would have any desire or even the right to become your or anyone else’s mother figure. You should realize if you’re as smart as I think you are, people don’t respect children. They respect experience and power, brains are lost on them.” Her voice wasn’t a yell, but certainly some growls could be heard.
”Also, why would I want the Jagged Ridge? If I get bored, I will simply capture some mainland region and destroy it. But Asemon, Asemon is special. I will not harm the kingdoms of Asemon unless my kingdom is threatened.” Her dreams of conquering Hoenn remained hers and hers alone, for they would most likely never be fulfilled. The rats that were her parents would live unscathed by her talons of revenge.
She paused after the chandelier comment, My chandelier? My five hundred thousand poke chandelier? Akane nearly froze in place.
”Done! Guards! Give the girl my chandelier. Nicole, do you need help taking it back? It would be a shame if it got damaged.” She shook her head, but soon snapped back into her agenda. ”In the meantime, guards! Go fetch my new one! I finally have a place to put it!”
Sudden tinkling and clinking could be heard as Akane’s new chandelier could finally be hung. It was at least three times the size of the one Nicole would be taking home, but maybe less fancy and busy, but certainly elegant.
”We have a deal now. Duchess Nicole.” Her tone was dark and her smile wide. She bowed, awaiting Nicole to make any final chat.
