"Two-part? We didn't plan for that." Marcus looked at Sofa unsure of their chances anymore. "Looks like there's more to this queen than I thought. Pay attention, Sofa. Show your respect."
Sofa sighed very deeply and turned towards the center of the hall as Eira got ready.
Z was a bit nervous now that the rules were announced, but he simply made some adjustments to his plan and whispered them to Axew. "Xew, Ax Axew?" Z nodded, "I'm sure, trust me." "Axew." said Axew with a shrug.

Zandrophin heard the speech...but he wasn't listening to the words. He felt like something was wrong. Sir...I'm a bit concerned. So, I'm not the only one...something's up, Mentus. Unsure as he was, Zandrophin was glad he wasn't going first; one must understand the game before playing.

Eira took a deep breath to settle herself before she headed out onto the stage. She nervously bowed to the audience and then to Akane, hesitating to look at all of the people that had come to watch.
"Spheal!" Spheal called to her as it rolled away from her to be at the very front of the stage. Eira looked at how confident and happy Spheal looked and began to smile at her partner. It didn't matter who was there to watch them perform so long as the two of them worked together as they always did and had fun doing so.
"Alright Spheal, get this started with your Ice ball!" Eira called to her partner, a new found confidence filling her. Spheal stopped rolling and began to charge up his attack. The ice glittered softly as it began to build up in front of Spheal, slowly growing even larger than Spheal himself. Once it was as large as Spheal could handle it, the young Pokemon released the large, glittering ball of ice into the air, letting it sparkle more and more as it passed through patches of light. Eira looked up at the Ice ball and couldn't help but to be stunned by how beautiful the ball of ice seemed to be.
"Spheal spheal!" her partner called to her, snapping her out of her daze and back into the competition. The ball of ice was already at the top of its trajectory and was about to begin its descent back down to the field.
"Use Aurora Beam!" Eira quickly instructed her partner. A rainbow colored beam shot from Spheal's mouth and hit the ball of ice with a crackling sound. For a few seconds, the shimmering rainbow of the aurora was reflected off of the ball of ice and all around the hall, casting the audience in its shimmering glow. The light faded after a few seconds with a resounding crack as the ball of ice shattered and small, glittering shards of ice began to fall all over the field. Eira was so shocked at how well the performance went that she couldn't stop staring at the shimmering ice that was cascading down around her, let alone bow to the audience, though Spheal seemed to be enjoying himself as he rolled around in the falling ice.

Zandrophin watched the first performance from his isolated perch. He took as many mental notes as possible. An ice ball and aurora beam, Sir. Little more than a fancy light show, Mentus. Not sure if we can do better...but trivializing her act is making it easier for me to plan. Eagerly, the two of them waited for the judge's report.

"Beautiful usage of the colorful mosaics in the ceiling to reflect upon your ice shards, then making them even more explosive bursts of color with that aurora beam and shattering them all over the stage and small remaining flakes flying over the audience. I see many of them licking the falling particles as we speak."
Several giggles from the crowd up front.
"Beautiful routine, beautiful trainer, beautiful pokemon. Just as I expected. Excellent usage of your pokemon's moves. By the way, an impressive ice ball from such a small pokemon." She smiled politely.
"I expect great things from you in part-two." Her score was a high one. Would be tough to beat, and a great way to get the audience interested in the contest. "Are you sure you're not professional?" The red lady's loud laugh echoed in the Hall as it fell silent when she laughed.

"N-Not at all," Eira managed to say to the queen, still stunned by the performance and now more so by the compliments she had received from the queen. Eira shakily bowed to Akane before she hurried from the stage. She immediately sank to the ground with a large smile on her face even though she was shaking.

The Red Lady's laughter broke Zandrophin and Mentus from their meditation. It sent a chill up their spines. Something is definitely up, Mentus...try to see what you can do with the judge. Sir...how could you suggest such an underhanded method...I'm appalled! Zandrophin looked doubtingly at Mentus. Yes...I tried.....nothing. She's got some serious barriers, Sir. Ah, well...I guess you can't dig into everyone's heads. Let's see what the next contestant does.

"G-Good luck Marcus," Eira managed to say from where she had fallen. She didn't even know if he could hear her, but she felt like she really wanted to say some words of encouragement to her new friend before he performed. She was still shaken up by her own performance, but she had a feeling that she should watch the others for any idea of where she might place later.
-sigh- "Wow...I hope ours goes that well. She really is an odd one." Marcus sat staring at Eira for a few seconds before she started walking back. "Alright, let's go and give our best." Marcus started walking out to the dummies, but when they got there, Sofa looked bored and like he wanted to sleep.
"No...Dude, you have to try your best." Sofa responded by yawning right in Marcus' face. Fighting through his own yawn, Marcus persisted, "I.....ahhhh....don't care how tired you are. Did you see how well they just did? Do you really want to lose? To a Spheal? A little baby Spheal?" Sofa scratched his head and yawned again, "Slakoth slak..."
Let's hope all this planning worked... "Oh...I get it. You just realize that you'd lose even if you tried, so it's less insulting if you just half-ass it, huh?"
"Then prove it! You're smart, you know how to adjust to these dummies. Show me you're not afraid of losing and beat them!"
Slakoth stormed off with passion he's never shown but to a select few. He stood in the middle of the hall as Marcus set up 5 dummies all around him equally apart, his eyes on fire.
Making sure to stand very far from his Pokemon, Marcus got ready, his heart racing: "Alright, Sofa! Get ready!" Sofa nodded and promptly...fell onto the ground like he'd been for the past hour, his body perpendicular to the queen. The sound of awkward surprise from the audience traveled around the hall. He closed his eyes and waited, not tired in the least.
"GO! Mega Kick!" Sofa's eyes suddenly opened wide as he brought his leg back, and then brought it crashing down onto the ground. A loud shock wave of sound shot through the hall as Sofa...was launched into the air! He traveled up and up, 25 feet at least in his starfish position. When he reached the apex of his assent, he suddenly adjusted his body.
"Now, Show them what you can do! Aerial Ace!" Sofa turned face-down with one claw pointing to the ground as he started to descend. A clear aura developed from his claw as he brought his other arm out to his side.
As he started to fall faster, Sofa's body began to rotate, creating a spiral of swirling light as he approached the ground. "NOW!" Suddenly the trail of aura scattered in a grand release and shot out in all directions, knocking all of the dummies halfway across the hall. As the aura subsided, Sofa was left right where he started, laying on his stomach with his eyes closed.
"Wow," was all Eira could say as she watched Sofa move like she had never seen a Slakoth move before. Her immediate thoughts were on how her accidental combination was no where near as good as Marcus and Sofa's performance. She was going to lose and she knew it to that kind of skill.

The second performance was under way; more notes to be taken. Is that piece of carpeting his Pokemon, Mentus? Yes, Sir...a Slakoth. I know very little else...I cannot seem to read anything from it...it's rather vacant. Well, it made quite the racket....I envy your ability to focus. Sir, all do respect, you are only human. The competition was beginning to slide away from Zandrophin. He'd figured as much, but he would not be deterred. Now...to wait for the judging.

Akane's internal commentary just stopped and started laughing. She dared not let it show she was laughing on the inside but Honestly? A slakoth's going to amaze me? She watched the young lad prepare the stage with five dummies. Interesting... I said two moves only! She continued to sit and watch. She figured the lazy slakoth wouldn't even bother to hit them.
"You've done something that has not happened in awhile. When your pokemon jumped so high, I did not expect that in the first place, but that shock wave alone!" Akane rubbed her back around her spine, "That shock wave jostled me deep down to my spine!" An excited smile and a progressively louder voice showed her enthusiasm.
"Though, not as beautiful of an attack, your aerial ace was beyond flawless. My guards will be plucking pieces of those dummies off the floor for weeks!" She laughed. "Your usage of not just one, but five dummies and those shock waves were enough to grant you a very comfortable score." She looked to the other contestants. "They will have a hard time topping that one."
The audience clapped even louder.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Eira couldn't help but to agree with Akane's assessment of the performance. She was quite amazed by what the little Slakoth could do and was worried about having to go up against him. Eira held Spheal tighter to her in her worry. "They are going to win this. There's just no way we will top them in the next round."
Marcus started running to where Sofa was laying down, he had to be sleeping after exerting all that effort and he'd have to carry him out of the middle of the hall. But when he got there, Sofa was still shining, glowing even.
"What's going on? Sofa?" He was so worried for his friend, he didn't even register the queen's praise.
Suddenly, Sofa stood up and started to grow, getting taller, with broader shoulders and bigger arms. Sofa was evolving! The heart rate that once only beat once a minute was sped up during that performance, and Sofa turned into a Vigoroth.
I'm glad you finally evolved buddy, but will we still be able to take naps anymore? Will you still be my friend?
Sofa turned to Marcus with wild eyes and ran straight at him, arms swinging. Marcus closed his eyes and waited to be destroyed.
So soft. Sofa hugged Marcus as gently as he could. "Vigoroth, vig." Tears in his eyes, Marcus started to nod. "Yeah...we did it." He embraced his Pokemon back. They started to walk back to their spot as the crowd cheered for the two close friends. Sofa then smacked Marcus in the back of the head. "Vig vigo vigoroth"
"Yes, I did play you to your lesser nature, but did you SEE THAT!? We rocked this place! And all that adrenaline pumping through you made you evolve. I am sorry, but you know it was the only way."
"ehhhh..." Vigoroth groaned, knowing he was right.
