After she had calmed Doom down, Nicole snapped at her; and with every reason to. Akane never flinched, and completely understanding, went on like it was a normal conversation.
”What a lovely name. Doom return, you’ve lost your privileges.” A red light absorbed the curled up houndoom into his dusk ball. He would receive the punishment for five lifetimes after this. ”Again, I apologize. You’d think a royal’s pokemon would have no issues. But I can see why he was interested in your vulpix, they’re one of my favorite pokemon.” she smiled and let out Silas who was also nicely groomed and also with a bowtie. She knew no issues would come from the serious pokemon.
”This is my first pokemon, and much more well-behaved. Silas meet Nicole and her vulpix.” Silas’ void, cold, angry face pierced holes into Nicole’s vulpix. ”Mauville City you say? That’s not too far from Fortree I suppose. I was born in Fortree many moons ago.” She hoped her age didn’t show. ”What brings you here?”
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Maya was trying to plan out exactly how to throw the ring for the best chance of landing right on the bottle when she heard the barking and, oh no, the voice of Akane.
Bo did a fairly good job at keeping her wits about her for having a giant doom dog barking her. But that might have just been how dimwitted she was. To her credit, she brought her arms up to her head as if the guard her new warm friend and hat. She didn't even flinch at Silas's appearance even if she should have. It was likely she had already forgotten.
Maya meanwhile put herself between the Pokemon as well, a little concerned.
"I am sorry. I hope your lovely vulpix is fine. Evening Maya."
"N-nice to meet you again your Majesty," Maya said before clamping her mouth shut. It was clear the queen was interested in Nicole and heaven forbid she intruded. She absently scratched at her arms, the tags starting to feel hot and itchy under her many layers.

"Uh...yeah, no. I'm not that much of a dancer. I've only danced one time in the last 8 years. I'm sure Maya would love a dance, though."
Zandrophin raised his hands, palms outwards, in defense.
"It was just an offer, kid. No need to get bent outta shape about it. Besides...if you can't dance, I don't think I would be able to teach you very well. Although, as a tip from a gentleman like myself, learning to dance is a good idea. It's a very good quality to have at your disposal."
Zandrophin was taken aback by Marcus' singling Maya out. He did not believe that was fair, and expressed himself as such,
"Sir, I do not believe you are allowed to speak on the lady's behalf. I may consider asking her...but there are protocols I must follow first." May as well try to make nice, old friend. Go on...go be social with your fellow Pokemon.
As you say, Sir.
As Mentus took his leave, Zandrophin turned to face Eira.
"As custom would dictate...I must ask my host first if she would like to dance before asking others. So, Lady Eira....will you join me?"
He extended a hand to her with these last few words...
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
Nicole stayed silent through most of what the queen had said, only slightly nodding at the introduction of the newest Pokemon. She was surprised that the other had not snapped back at her but she wasn't going to complain.
”Mauville City you say? That’s not too far from Fortree I suppose. I was born in Fortree many moons ago.”
When the other said this Nicole shrugged. "I guess? I didn't really pay attention to geography. I spent more time out of the city than in it. The desert nearby was my friend." She answered not bothering to comment on the part that spoke of the queens age.
”What brings you here?”
That was the part that Nicole didn't know how to answer really. "I'm here because I just am." She decided to say, giving the same answer she gave to everyone.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
Akane was almost disappointed in Nicole. She had hoped for a fiery wandering woman with tells and tales as far as the earth stretched, but it was not in this woman. Her apathy was almost infectious. On the other hand the quivering woman next to her intrigued her still.
”And a very good evening to you, Maya. How is your flaaffy doing? Won’t be long before it’s an actual competitor for Doom and maybe even Silas.” She laughed. The red lady did not intend to be mean or rude; she just really wanted to have some fun with the girl, since Nicole turned out to be a bust.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Nicole couldn't help the sigh of relief that escaped her when the attention was taken off of her. Turning she spoke calmly and quietly to the two Pokemon. "Nero, sorry about this boy, but it's time for us to go. Bo, sorry I have to take Nero away now." She said reaching down and gently moving Bo's hands so she could pick up Nero and settle him in her arms, close to her. Leaning in she whispered to Nero calmly.
"Let's go while they're distracted. I don't like how that conversation went...." She said getting a small disappointed but understanding nod. "Don't worry, we're not leaving, leaving. I just want to get to the other side of the carnival away from here." She whispered again getting Nero to perk up some.
Once all of that was said and done, Nicole began moving slowly in a way she hoped would not draw attention.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
Bo complained at the loss of her friend, bleating sadly.
”And a very good evening to you, Maya. How is your flaaffy doing? Won’t be long before it’s an actual competitor for Doom and maybe even Silas.”
Now the attention was on Maya. Great. She shuffled a foot around in the snow and continued to scratch her arm. She didn't notice Nicole slinking off.
"Uh... perhaps... But I'm fairly certain we won't battle anytime soon," Maya said, nodding and wincing at her laugh. "She is doing well. She has likely already forgotten about the battle anyway..." Maya said with a small smile as she looked down at Bo who was still sulking from the loss of her friend. Maya suddenly realized that Nero was gone and so was Nicole. "Ah where is..." Maya questioned looking around.
Eira relaxed a bit once Mentus left Zandrophin's shoulders, glad to have some distance between herself and the Psychic type. "I would love to, just let me go place this egg back inside so it'll be warm."
Eira gave them a small bow before she turned and went into her house so that she could place the egg in a cabinet in her room that had a nest of pelts in it just for the egg.
*Let's go Sofa, I know just which stands are giving out stuff,* Sealeo barked at his friend, nudging him with his nose.
Zandrophin remained where he was...awaiting Eira's return.
Finally...a chance for me to unwind and just dance. It's been a while. Now, with my job here finished, I can just be another guest.
Zandrophin laughed at this thought. Of course he was more than just another guest...he had won the contest, after all. He glanced over at Mentus, who had decided to make his way over to Akane...planning to antagonize Silas.
Hopefully he doesn't go too far....wouldn't want to cause that scene.
Mentus dropped himself down onto Silas' back. The Luxray looked over his shoulder in surprise. Mentus cheekily waved at him.

Sofa looked at Marcus, who gave him a knowing nod, and then left with Sealeo to go visit the stands. So it was just zandrophin and Marcus. Standing there. Awkwardly...
Marcus was looking at the ground, wanting to go talk to someone else; but he wasn't about to just cower away because things were awkward. Come on...make small talk. Anything. "-sigh- So...what are you doing after this festival? I'm assuming you've learned enough about what kind of leader Eira is from today. Heading back to Celosia?"
"So...what are you doing after this festival? I'm assuming you've learned enough about what kind of leader Eira is from today. Heading back to Celosia?"
"I'm not too sure, honestly. I don't plan on staying in this village, that's for sure. I may go back, or I may wander around here...there are plenty of natural resources here. A fur trade could spring up here, under tight watch, of course; I may not have a problem with having to strong-arm people, but a stripped environment will quickly become useless. Also, it will bring some money to this region...and back to me, as well."
Zandrophin couldn't quite figure out the point of the question...so he decided to take the bait,
"Why do you ask?"
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
"Just making conversation. I'm probably going to head west with Maya. She's joining me on her search for her aunt. I'm probably going to be gone for a very long time, going to see if there's a west coast to this island; Lady Akane's traveled the farthest inland than anyone and she still doesn't know where it ends." Marcus paused for a while, his brow furrowing his blatant lie when a thought came over him.
"So I'm not going to pretend like Mentus didn't feel whatever is out there to the northwest, and that he didn't tell you. So what do you think it is?"
Not exactly small talk, but then again; I never liked small talk.
"I can admit that we did sense....something. It's been affecting both of us since we arrived...but we've managed to ignore it. Recently, however...it's been increasing in intensity. Whatever it is...it's powerful...very powerful. I have my theories as to what it could be...but I will not speak of them here...too many ears. If you are traveling west, I shall accompany you. You may be alright as a leader...but if we get into a pinch, I'll have to save us again."
He turned as Eira rejoined them.
"Now, if you will excuse me, I must dance with our host."

"I must admit that I'm not much of a dancer," Eira chuckled as she rejoined the two men, extending her hand for Zandrophin to take so they could go to the square for their dance. "I haven't had much practice before in the years since I started living here. We don't have too many celebrations like this, especially few in which we actually have music and dancing. I apologize now if I fail to meet your standards."
-sigh- Didn't even ask to join, he just inserted himself in my trip once again. Why am I surprised? I will admit, we will have better odds to survive whatever's over there with more people. Still...I doubt we'd survive getting there without help from something. It's far too cold and there's no trees out there to keep the blizzards down to the soft 40 mph winds they get here. We'll need to ask Eira about advice before we leave.
It was right then Marcus realized: He was standing alone at a festival for a good minute. How depressing. He turned around and looked at the crowd. I haven't legitimately talked to Akane since I left for Enya, she might want to know about the trading post we found on the way up here. Marcus started to walk nonchalantly with his hands in his pockets over to where Maya and Akane were.
