Something to have playing while you travel through the jungle, help set the mood.
Jungle Island has always been isolated from human contact. The Pokemon that live here have developed a rich biodiversity, with Pokemon from all over the world living throughout the jungle, the only exceptions being the Pokemon whom evolved symbiotically with or due to human influence.* Due to the rich biodiversity and dense Pokemon population, the Pokemon just inside the outer areas of the island have developed to be either amazingly cunning to survive; or incredibly powerful. Often, it is both.
Jungle Island lies in a rather odd position for it's climate. It is as far north in half of its island as Eirlys, however it's average temperature year-round is tens of degrees higher. This is due to the coastal winds rotating directly above this island that brings warm air to the southern half, as well as a rather peculiar undersea current that brings warm water to the northern shores, giving a large supply of varying nutrients from both air and sea that make Jungle Island as successful biologically as any rain forest in the world.
Like most rain forests, Jungle Island is incredibly humid. There is rarely a dry branch or patch of dirt lacking moisture to be found; even for the few places covered by fallen trees from the consistent downpour of rain. The farther out from the center of the island one is, however, the less humidity there is in the air. Because of this trait, many fire types find it difficult to live in Jungle Island, making their presence less dominant. The incredibly clever, however, manage to survive; some even thrive. This does require ingenuity and luck, caves and burrows are the fire Pokemon's dearest friend.
Jungle Island has very shallow shores because the plant life has extended so far out that they are practically absorbing the beach; trees that thrive on salt water make a ring around the island, their roots jutting up like coral reefs, making docking a ship near impossible. The trees on the island are large, much larger than normal trees in Asemon. Those that make up the canopy of the inner jungle could comfortably fit a Gyrados underneath their leaves, although probably not if their trunks are still there. Along with every kind of berry tree known to man, there are many others on the island with yet unknown effects; many more harmful than beneficial. The darkness cast by the canopy has the deep jungle's floor practically in darkness at all times of the day. Even one with good sense of direction can lose their way easily in this biological cave. To take the beaten paths made by Pokemon lets you keep your bearings, but smart prey know to stay away from such obvious stomping grounds of alpha Pokemon whom have none that can threaten their power and dominance. There are some holes in the canopy here and there that share their light to let the Pokemon find their way, but beware: those holes are where the slightly smaller predator Pokemon wait with their fangs ready off in the shadows as their tired food attempts to rest in a patch of light, where they feel safe...
There are various small waterfalls going through from the center of the island outward. Water rapids and slick rocks prove treacherous for any being that is not accustomed to the water; for if the strong currents and sharp stones carved by the rushing water don't get you, there are hungry Pokemon waiting in it that will.
The tallest waterfall in the island is the source of the spring water flowing out down to the south, falling 60 feet at its highest. The spring sits atop a towering plateau that rests in the very center of the island. At the top of the plateau, there are a multitude of water and flying Pokemon living in the spring, kept at peak physical capabilities by the spring water's uncanny replenishing effects. This is the origin of all of the rivers running out of the island, but it is at the source that the healing effects are strongest. There are precious few ways to reach the spring at the plateau's top for one not capable of swimming up a waterfall; the canopy below and Geodudes blocking access by climbing, and most are kept from approaching it by air by the many beings with keen eyesight and sharp talons lying in wait for a brave, delicious soul attempting to fly to the top. The trees at the top of the plateau grow thickest and strongest in the region, but there is a reason that none of the other Pokemon go to the spring, and it is not the topography or birds of prey...
Jungle Island is a very dangerous place. It is not intense, it is not terrifying; but that's precisely the reason why it is the most dangerous area in Asemon. It's a soft sort of danger; it's subtle, thick. It lays into you over time. If one was to walk just around the area a few hundred feet into the island from the beach, (1 mile = 5280 feet) they would find it incredibly calm, tranquil and lovely; but when one ventures deeper to where only the strongest and most clever Pokemon roam, where they don't have the warm security of the sun to keep them safe or a trail to lead them back to the outside world; the weak, the sick and the unaware perish. Proceed with great caution, for EVERY* Pokemon in the world can reside here; many who thrive in the dark, and a few who have no reason to fear it.
*Examples of Pokemon evolving symbiotically with or due to human influence would be Porygon, Muk, Magnemite, Doublade, Pidove and Bronzong. Pokemon that appear to have needed human influence if not human creation for their existence. Most Ghost types fit this category.
