Akane was prepared for this. She had picked one of her most elaborate but less bright dresses for the occasion, for even though she was to dress formally, she was not the one being honored today. And even put her mane up.
She and a few of her guards stood at the royal gate to let in the early arrivals. Akane stood up front to greet each and every person who came to the ball today. She would greet them all until all four of her intended guests arrived. Doom stood at her side today. He even had a little bow-tie on and was sitting very calm at her side.
Eira fidgeted as she came upon the castle once more, this time she was in a gown much like what she wore on formal occasions in Silvertree Village. While she was not known for the most demanding of queens, she was a queen who loved to look the part when there were formal occasions to attend. Her gown was large and made of a billowing white material. She was quite glad that she had left her coat back in her room since she was already hot enough in the gown without the layer of fur to create more of a burden.
"Lady Akane," she curtsied when she reached the hall where the red queen was waiting to greet people. She had to admit that Akane was not only a fierce queen, but a beautiful one as well and she felt that it was no wonder her subjects followed her and seemed to adore her so much.
Doom growled. The red woman finished her curtsy before snapping at him.
"Doom! What are you growling at sir?" Her tone was sharp and irritated. Her eyes then landed on his target. Oh good. She's made it. Mental note: the tracker is not needed. She bowed and curtsied to many more guests before Eira's turn.
"Welcome Lady Eira of the Frost." She bowed. Seeing her in another dress, sure makes me want to believe that she may be in fact royalty. She looked her over once more. Or just a damned good thief.
Walking into the Ballroom straightening his tie, Marcus felt so uncomfortable. "This fitted suit of Grandpa's is a bit tight around the shoulders. And too long on the sleeves." A navy blue suit with a checkered navy blue tie over a white shirt was what Marcus was wearing. His hair, however; no matter how much time was spent on it nor how much product was put in it, it refused to move from its perpetual bedhead state.
Sofa, the lovable Vigoroth and Marcus' best friend is who he was talking to. He was standing right next to him wearing a matching vest and tie, completely fine with his snazzy new outfit. "Vigoroth, vig vig." Sofa said smugly as he smoothed down his vest. "Well I'm glad you like your outfit, just be glad Grandpa had the suit that's ffor made for his Machoke and not his Golem." -Sigh- Okay, just act cool and collected, smile a bit, have small talk with the social elite, then we can go home and get this thing off me.
Z looked around the hall, feeling out of place, even though he had left his cloak behind. His Axew stood next to him with a bowtie on and at his other side, sparky his combuskin stood with a bow in her feathers on her head. They walked into the ballroom, looking around with awe.
Akane continued to greet and curtsy to every visitor that dropped by. She was later greeted with no less than her contest's winner.
"Evening Sir Marcus. Looking very well dressed. I'm impressed." Akane smirked. "And look who else is here. Sir Sofa. Looking no doubt snazzier than you." She chuckled, not meaning it as offensive at all. She preformed her curtsy to him, and Doom poked around his person with his nose.
"Oh did your pokemon hatch?"
Later still, the third of her intended guests arrived.
"My, sir Z you do know how to dress up." Akane giggled. "No cloak this time?" Another chuckle. "Oh and look at little axew's tie. My, the combusken's new. Where did you find such a cute pokemon?" She laughed again.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Eira stood near a wall of the ballroom, toying with her dress as she looked around and watched so many people come through without a care that they were at a queen's ball and were surrounded by the social elite. Eira looked down at the thin, silver chain belt that she wore so her pokeballs were at her side. The twin dive balls hung in easy reach and held her two companions, who Eira wished she could call out in that moment but would not wish for them to come out in an area neither would be well suited for. She was worried that Spheal would get lost or hurt in the horde of people that was in the room and that Shimmer wouldn't be able to do much with no water around. Eira dearly wished for her two friends to be beside her, but she remained alone along the wall with an out of place feeling about her.
"I felt the cloak would have been out of place at a formal ball," said Z, "and this is my other pokemon, Sparky." Z's Combustion cuddled up to him as if saying, 'he's mine. back off.' Z chuckled, "she has a bit of a crush on me." Z smiled and looked around the majestic hall again. He was amazed at the splendor of the place.
"Yes, It wasn't that hard to get him in it once he saw what it looked like. We did have some difficulty getting the sleeves on him with his claws, so we went without the jacket." Marcus bowed to the queen, as did Sofa. "I wanted to thank you for awarding me the first contest badge in the region. It was truly a surprise. I almost don't feel like we deserve it." Marcus shifted his feet awkwardly at this, not sure undermining the queen's judgment was the best idea.
"Oh, no. The egg hasn't hatched yet; but...how did you know I had an egg?"
Eira could see the entrance hall from where she stood and saw Z and Marcus enter with their Pokemon out. She glanced down at her pokeballs once more, thinking that Spheal would enjoy spending a bit more time with Axew and Sofa before they had to go. She almost reached for her belt, but decided against it at the last second when a particularly large group of people walked past her. She couldn't put Spheal in harms way like that, he was just so tiny and easily kicked around. Maybe if he was a Sealeo she would let him out, but not yet.
The red lady laughed at the combusken's overprotective nature.
"I'm sure she loves you for good reason. Not everyone gets to be the partner of a placed cooridinator." A surprisingly lovely young trainer. I shall ask what his plans are later. But for now... Her attentioned zoned in on Marcus.
"Your performance racked up the most bonus points more than anything. Plus that ending. Though it wasn't as flashy as some, it was certainly an excellent demonstration of Sofa's future potential in power. Do not question, just accept." She did a slight bow. He asked about her knowledge of his egg.
"Your pokémon egg? Oh. My guards did a search of your person." She laughed heartily. "I'm just kidding. It's against the law to rummage through a person's belongings. Royalty doesn't get just mediocre pokémon. My houndoom can smell it on your person. He's been trained to signal me if he smells pokémon eggs; among other things..." Her laugh this time was meanacing. "I'm very interested in pokemon breeding and I would absolutly hate it if one of my bred pokémon got stolen. Especially my excellent Rapidash and Ponyta line. Which, all of you may borrow at anytime. Their excellent endurance is excellent for long journeys."
Akane was about to get busy again and before she left Z an Marcus she mentioned to them that perhaps they should go find Lady Eira. Akane pointed her out an she seemed rather lonely as she fidgeted with the gorgeous dive balls around her waist. She also mentioned there was more space to the left wing, past the double shiny houndoom doors leading to the garden (which of course had a pond for her water types).
Returning to her post she did not know, nor need to know if they actually went to the garden. She decided she woud hunt them down individually later. Another duke and dutchess. Curtsy and bow, all the while smiling sweetly and face blank...
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Z wandered around the party in awe of all the splendor around him. He had come from a small town and was among the middle class, so he'd never been to a ball, much less one in a hall of this splendor and elegance. He admired the architecture that would have gone into building a hall of this size, getting a bit lost in the crowd and missing the doors to the garden. Axew hopped onto his usual spot on his shoulder and Sparky remained faithfully at his side as he wandered. Z hoped he wouldn't have to dance. He knew how, but probably not the kind of dances that would go on in this hall.
-sigh- More playing nice, more talking to people, more being in this tie. Marcus fidgeted with his tie as he and Sofa walked in the direction of their fellow contest participant, awkwardly bumping into other party goers, apologizing as he went. "That offer for Ponytas is pretty enticing, I'd be able to get where I want to go in a flash, but I kinda want to do it the old fashioned way," Turing to his friend, "with my own pokemon." Sofa was enjoying himself looking at all the beautiful dresses and lights and, as instructed, was keeping his claws in to his body so to cause as little damage as possible.
Eira noticed Marcus and Z moving away from Akane and wondered where they might be going off to. While the hall was grand and seemed to have plenty of room, there were a lot of people in it so there weren't that many places they could go off to. Eira frowned as she looked down at her gown, maybe she should have spoken with the queen more than her short hello. It was quite rude of her to just stand there when she could be talking to their hostess, or maybe it was more rude to go talk to her while she was trying to greet guests. Which was the right choice to make? In moments like these, Eira really wished she had an adviser around to instruct her on the proper thing to do since she had not grown up in this kind of society.
"Busy?" Marcus looked down at Eira with a soft smile. "So, you aren't having your little Spheal join the party? I guess it would be hard to get any kind of outfit to stay on him." Marcus' smile opened more after his little joke, sitting next to his friend. "....so I won. That happened. I thought for sure, for sure that you were going to win. You did a really good job. Every one of her highness' critiques of you always included "what I was looking for" or "like a professional". You're really a contest coordinator, in philosophy; execution and mentality, you just gotta keep at it." Marcus leaned back in his chair, relaxing as best he could in his suit. "Still trying to wrap my head around it; I can't believe we won."
