’It’s so warm… I haven’t seen the sun in so long…’ The sun rays radiated, as if they were actually moving around, searching for something in particular. Choosing to all shine down on one woman, as if she was chosen by the gods, he could only wait in suspense. The woman began shuffling closer-she was in full kimono! The sunlight caught and forced every single shimmering metallic fiber to shine like it was the most beautiful out of the thousands woven into her gown. The little bit of pale skin that showed through the overwhelming gown where uniform in their beautiful pale peach color. In the brilliant sun, her chestnut hair almost caught fire as it showed off the subtle auburn hues that highlighted her hair.
Tsubame twitched and gave a big kick in his sleep, giving Kaname a startling fright in the middle of the night, so much so he shot off an icy win, letting the snowflakes drizzle all throughout Tsubame’s rustic cabin. Tsubame however, remained trapped in his dream.
Running towards her had no effect, only she could come closer. Fortunately, she did. Finally she stopped just outside arm’s reach of him and opened her crystalline eyes that flashed brighter than even the sun, catalyzing the end of the dream. Tsubame cried out for her, reaching, grabbing for, and lunging for her with all of his strength, the dream ended fading from the intense white to the darkness of only a moonlit cabin.
Kaname growled at something outside their window, and Tsubame’s eyes flew open, brushing off random snowflakes. He quickly got out of bed and grabbing his musket he received from a trade with a Venoan man, he tromped outside arming himself with the gun-but what he saw astonished him. It was a massive midnight-colored swirling mass of dark energy; white cyan eyes and a ghastly white crest adorning it like a ghostly crown. Tsubame froze, dumbstruck by this crazy creature stalking him. Was this the cause of his taunting, seductive nightmare? Should he shoot it? Report it? Whatever it was, it’s cyan eyes challenged Tsubame’s own, which only forced Kaname’s protective instincts to kick in and attack first. But instead of defending or attacking back, it vanished, leaving Tsubame to collapse into a very worried Kaname’s arms.
“It’s okay buddy… that dream… that pokemon…” Kaname gently pressed his foremost claw to his trainer’s trembling lips. When he removed it, Tsubame spoke again. “Kaname, I have to see her again.” Kaname only tilted hi head in confusion. “Kaname, I have to see Mariko again.” After being reminded of their fun, but awkward exchanges, Kaname shook his head no. But Tsubame regaining his strength wouldn’t take no for an answer. He assured Kaname they would have an audience with Queen Eira or priestess Astina later about the never-before-seen(at least to him) pokemon that intruded upon Tsubame’s land. For now, all he could think about was Mariko.
Sure, he had been on a few dates with other women since his return to Eirlys, he decided he would never go back to hurt Mariko again, after the ball incident he regretted even going. His mind could not be bothered to remember the happy things that happened, but he wouldn’t let it stop him from seeing if she was okay. There had to be a reason she appeared so angelic-like in his dream. He spent the remainder of the night shaving and trimming up his small beard (which lately has been growing in quite thick) and finding clean clothes in the black hole that had become his house. Upon passing a mirror he never bothered to look in, he realized he had changed. He jaw had chiseled itself a little more, and his eyes had lost all their innocence. They were stoic, eroded by the world, and hollow like the man that hid behind them. With his lazy upkeep of his hair, it didn't even look decent anymore, with Kaname usually doing the cutting. Perhaps he would fix that too.
The very next day, he had bags under his eyes from lack of sleep. His heavy feet trudged through the snow, though muscles tightening to voice their complaints. He first found a man herding avalugg down south, to which he gratefully hitched a ride on a large one’s back. When the time came however they would need to split ways, Tsubame thanked the man with a small sum of money for the ride (and nap he managed to take on the rocking quadraped) and began walking the rest of the way out of the really harsh land of Eirlys and into the soft snowfall of summer that stood between him and Celosia.
Is she really worth this trouble? Kaname’s face was irritated, they hadn’t traveled this far in more than a year and Kaname was quite content with having settled where they did. Tsubame could only stroke his fuchsian feather and trudge forward, not knowing himself why he continued walking.
”Kaname? Do you think I’m stupid-no scratch that, I can already see it on your face. Do you… by any chance maybe think… she found somebody else?” His cheeks grew red hot at the thought, but sound not heard often came out of Kaname-he was laughing. ”Karmedic justice for not feeding you that one time, or because you think her purity would drive other men away. Or that… maybe she became a lesbian… oh dear darkrai why am I still going?” He wanted nothing more than to bunch up and rage away his emotions, but he was still red hot in the face and too tired to actually do anything.
Expecting more taunting but receiving none, Kaname only placed a friendly claw on his shoulder and patted. The sneasel then promptly lifted Tsubame up off guard causing him to slump in his confusion, but as if it jolted his emotions out, he sighed and thanked his companion before the continued backpacking to Celosia. They knew they grew closer with each footstep, especially when the snowfall melted away, and so did their layers.
It was early evening when they arrived hungry and worn in Pyron City. Following muscle memory, he made his way to the clinic. He didn’t even recognize the place, so much had changed. ’Oh my god I am an idiot. What if her clinics not even there anymore?!’ He wanted to punch himself, but stopped when he saw it-the clinic. In pristine condition, except with fully grown flora decorating it now. Kaname eyed several delectable dishes from restaurants nearby, but grumbled and followed after Tsubame when he ran to the clinic like an idiot through a crowded area.
Bursting through the front doors in a panic, he shouted “MARIKO!” before hunching over panting. He blushed when all he saw were people and pokemon milling about in the lobby, but no Mariko. Kaname shortly followed.
