(This post is entirely for Maya's plot purposes)
Her legs shook as wood creaked under her sandals, threatening to give way and plunge through the floorboards of the temple. Maya was convinced that if she did it would probably be a void down there and it wasn’t a pleasant thought. Dororo walked close by her side senses aware of every little thing. Bo walked by Maya’s side as well; giving worried little ‘maas’ of fear occasionally.
Maya didn’t dare send out Elly as she watched a poor tortured Phantump float through the floorboards giving pained moans before disappearing through the ceiling. She was almost to the center of the temple and the amount of terrified and pained ghost Pokemon were horrifying. Most didn’t even notice her and her Pokemon. She could feel the pressure they had likely been feeling for centuries. At least the humans could die but these poor souls couldn’t.
The only thing that saved Maya from the same pain was the seals and sheer power that forced the pressure back. But it wasn’t easy. Dororo didn’t seem to feel it much, Maya suspected it was due to his dark typing and further enforced the idea a ghost Pokemon of tremendous power was involved. Bo had almost a dozen paper seals slapped on to her, which appeared to be working. Ghost Pokemon seemed to suffer the worst.
Maya slid open a paper door slowly, having to force it open when it stuck briefly. She was met with another… thing. A circular purple void surrounded by a faint light that reminded her of her first total solar eclipse. She could feel and hear the pull of a wind coming from it. Her ears rung and her stomach flipped and she could feel as if gravity had turned off. Bo gave a panicked bleat as her feet lifted off the ground and flailed her short arms. Maya wasn’t going to have anymore of that after running into the first one and acted swiftly a single needle pierced the thing, quivered and then spiraled closed with a burst of wind. Bo fell back on the floor on her face. Dororo didn’t seem bothered.
“We’re getting close,” Maya said but her voice trembled and her knees were practically knocking together at this point.
It was a narrow hallway and now she could see the pressure; a swirling black ash that moved more like fog along the floors and ceilings. It all came from the screen at the end of the hall. The temple shrine was ahead if the book could be trusted. Maya felt like crying as she continued to walk. This was way beyond her she was certain. It was unlike anything she had ever felt. Dororo held strong but he was walking a little slower and Bo was shivering. A head splitting roar rang out and Maya felt her blood turn to ice and feel like it was running backward. It was a warning. Or maybe… a challenge? Shit this was a bad idea.
Her hand was on the door handle, though she couldn’t tell when that happened, and slowly she slid it open. High vaulted ceilings in a circular room that at one point would have been elegant were ignored as she zeroed in on the center of the room. A massive swirling vortex, similar to the smaller ones she encountered, radiated out across the floor but it was huge. Maya almost felt relieved. This was it? This… portal like thing was causing all this? It would take a lot of needles but she could close it. Close it and be done.
She was about to do just that when something spoke.
“I wouldn’t if I were you.”
The words came from everywhere and Maya watched in horror as the portal shifted and something rose up as if breaking through the surface of a lake. It was a shadow. A large hulking shadow, snake like with strange wing like things behind it. It was bigger than her. Bigger than the room. Bigger than reality. It felt like something was trying to take an axe right down the center of her skull. Beady red eyes stared from what looked like could be a head and blinked.
“Get lost.”
