After months of planning, and loads of invitations and advertising, Lady Akane finally let it sink in that today her hard work would pay off. Every couple in all the kingdoms and known territories had been invited. Of course, preference would be given to her newest interests and friends. She examined the massive ballroom, twirling so her skirt would flare up and clacking her heels as she spun around the room. The painting on the walls had been replaced with more festive and bright red decorations. Luvdiscs replaced the usually mean Houndooms, the dinning utensils had been replaced for the more festive ones, and it seemed everything was in place for the night. Even Akane’s gown had a special simplicity to it she normally wouldn’t have chosen.
Finally she spun herself to the thrones. Three massive, jewel encrusted thrones on an elevated platform at the end of the ballroom. The middle-most thrones were for herself and Lady Eira. Flanking the intricate, golden, ruby and garnet encrusted throne suited for none other than the Red Lady, was another golden throne with slightly less jewels and not quite as large, meant for the Red Queen’s date and primary guest of honor to the ball. On the other side of the middle golden throne, sat another slightly-smaller yet highly intricate silver throne generously adorned with aquamarine and blue topaz gems. It was of course, meant for Lady Eira. Next to that throne sat another, simpler silver throne with only one large blue gem in the top. Though it was much less to look at than the others, it was still relatively remarkable and made specifically for Eira’s date.
As soon as the doors to the long and narrow reception hall opened, the guards allowed (after thorough security checking mind you) civilians and nobility to file in. There were ordure’s and other delicacies in the slender passageway that stretched its way to the high-ceiling-ed ball room where the dancing and formalities of the ball would be enjoyed. At the end of it all, Lady Akane and Lady Eira alone awaited the Celosian (and surprisingly large amount of Eirlys) citizens for greeting. Some subjects even met with both queens at once, especially the nobles and more well-known families.
