Hmm… this place isn’t as classy as I had hoped… anywhere… the restaurants are very small and intimate… I don’t know if she would be comfortable in a place like this.
Tsubame had leaned himself against a pillar, and Kaname was leaned on the other side. He had hoped he didn’t look too suspicious, but he was burning up in this warm place. He had already stripped down to a simple t-shirt and denim jeans. Not to mention, I’m not very classy for this endeavor either… He shook his head.
”How are you doing, Kaname?”
The sneasel looked fine, but he was beginning to sweat through his bandages in this heat.
”I know buddy… I hope she shows up soon.” His expression turned soft for a brief moment before fading in with the crowd; his hair being his only distinguishing quality.

Mariko couldn’t help the sigh that escaped her as she walked to where she had been told to meet Tsubame. She really hoped she wasn’t just walking into some sort of set up where she would arrive and find herself the victim of some cruel prank. Then again, she wouldn’t be surprised. She wasn’t all that experienced when it came to dealing with people flirting with her or asking her to go and get food with them. Entering the area she was told to go to, she looked around trying to spot the man that she was there to meet. A little ways away, she noticed a flicker of blue in the crowd. So he was there already.
Sighing once more, she looked down at her outfit, a similar one to what she normally wore to work. She had gone home to change, forgoing the idea of wearing one of her Kimonos in favor of something lighter and less stand-outish, even though it just looked like she was going to be going back to work. Shaking her head, Mariko decided not to worry about it as she shifted her bag that she always carried with her when she was not at work, and was going to be going out, and began to move towards where she had seen the glimpse of blue.
Tsubame sighed after he realized he had been waiting for at least an hour or so. Yep. I’m stupid for thinking she might actually come. What would a distinguished woman like her want with a guy like me…? He sighed while his hair fell over his eyes. The swathes of people forced him at one point to push himself further into the lamp post he had been resting against, the iron pole pressing against his back made him almost jerk away from it-if he could wow this place just got really packed, he commented. It was so bad he was accidentally or otherwise elbowed in the gut. Crap… I have to piss so bad… His silvery eye looked down at Kaname who was glaring at him seemingly already knowing what he was going to ask.
”Hey Kaname buddy-“ the man was cut off by the short pokemon’s scoff. ”Please…?” He felt like it could burst at any moment, but still the navy-blue bodied pokemon shook his head.
He froze in place. He saw the familiar brunette hair, and the fancy collared blouse and the sparkling sapphire eyes. Oh my god, she actually came. A mixture of disbelief and a small smile wrinkled his face oddly. Then he realized; he still had to go. I’ll just wait for her to come here…. His face washed over to almost paper-white pale as he casually crossed his legs.

When Mariko finally made her way over to the other, after making it through the crowds, the first thing she did was give Tsubame a small bow, followed by a “sorry I’m late”. This, of course, meant that she was unaware of the others problems, even when she straightened up to her full height. “I hope you didn’t have to wait too long… I had a few things I had to finish before I could leave the clinic.” She said in explanation, to continue on her apology. Why was this so awkward? Oh right… This was going to be the first date she had been on in the twenty years of her being alive. That, and she was going out with a client... This was just going against everything she knew as a doctor in many ways.
When she finally arrived, he felt awful like his inners could burst at any moment. He waited near patiently for her to finish up, but as soon as she finished he quickly snatched her hand and lead on. It was a shortish walk to the restaurant, but it felt like an eternity. He didn’t even notice how fast he was walking, still clutching Mariko’s hand. He was even hasty with the host at the restaurant.
”Table for three-“ He paused and looked at Mariko’s pokeballs and Kaname pointing to the one with smoochum in it, ”Four? Four.” he finalized, and luckily the host agreed to his hasty demands. As soon as they got to the table, he immediately demanded for her to “wait here” and rushed away behind the wall. He hadn’t even noticed the lack of conversation.
Kaname sat across from the empty seat next to Mariko, gesturing for her to release a pokemon since Tsubame asked for four spots. Secretly, he hoped she would release smoochum and thanked Tsubame for the chance that she might even release her.

Mariko didn’t know what to think when her hand was suddenly grabbed and she was dragged into the restaurant she could only guess was the one they were going to be eating at since it was the option given. When they were led to the table she didn’t expect to be placed in a seat and then abandoned with only the others Sneasel as her company, and asking for a table for four…? Did he wish for her to release one of her Pokemon? Letting out a small sigh she reached for one of the Pokeballs on her bracelet and pressed the button to let whichever random Pokemon she had somehow selected out. In a flash of red Luka appeared, perched beside her on the open chair on her other side. Letting out a tweet he went about preening himself briefly before looking at Mariko with a slight confused head tilt at the only empty seat at the table.
“Trust me, I wish I knew myself.” Mariko confided in her Pokemon ignoring the Sneasel beside her briefly, as she reached out and petted the bird Pokemon on the head.
Man, I am a loser… Waited out there for four hours and then this… geeze. He washed his hands after finally somewhat relieving himself. Straightening his clothes, he inhaled and headed out the door. Upon his return to the table, he noticed she was incredibly uncomfortable.
”Sorry about that. I uh-forgot to go before I left the hotel.” He couldn’t lie very well, but didn’t want to make her feel bad for his waiting so long. ”Also, sorry about the restaurant… It’s one of my favorites here, but if you want we can go elsewheres.” He sighed, probably looking more depressed than anything… his dream of a perfect date already out the window.
”Oh it’s your pidgeyyyyotto…?” He wasn’t very familiar with bird pokemon. ”Err-What’s her name?” he quickly added trying to not seem entirely ignorant. He looked over to sneasel looking somewhat bored, or moody, the silver eyed man couldn’t tell.

Mariko nodded through the first part of Tsubame’s words, noting that the other did seem truly sorry for what had just occurred, and for the choice in restaurant. The comment about Luka though, could not be so easily forgiven… By the Pokemon in question at least. Puffing up, Luka began tweeting at the other man in a rapid manner that spoke of his displeasure. Mariko was quick to move and calm him down, placing a hand on his head to make him cease his tweeting. “I’m sorry about him, but I think he would like for me to correct you in saying that he is a Fletchling not a Pidgeotto. Also, as I said, Luka is a he, not a she.” She corrected before letting out a sigh. “As for the restaurant, it’s fine. It is one of the better ones that I have come across so far. I eat here on days that the clinic is not so busy… And that is not that often, even though it is a brand new clinic.”
Unknowingly to him, Tsubame’s face melted into a visible irritation at the influx of tweeting. Mariko quickly interrupted the bird however, and her soothing voice smoothed out the irritation wrinkles. After being corrected he apologized offhandedly to the fletching, but was more focused on her mention of having eaten here before and on a regular basis. But he thought he might try and smooth things over.
“So, you’ve eaten here before? Can you recommend something for me? I’m not used to the food here, and don’t know what’s good.” Furthering the thought process he proceeded to ask her, ”How long have you lived here? Since you started the clinic? Where are you from originally? I guess I should have asked you this earlier…” he chuckled.

Mariko gave a small sigh before taking up a look of contemplation. “Well, the soup is always good, though today is a little hotter than normal for that.” She mused trying to think of what would be best to eat on a day like this. “Their sandwiches are also really good.” She said after a little longer contemplation. Then she looked to Luka and began to pet him some at seeing his dejected face. ”As for how long I’ve lived here… Well that is a good question. I think I’ve been here for half a year, but I’m not quite certain. And the clinic has been open for about half of those months. I’m also from Ecruteak City in Johto. Can you figure out what I did for a living there though, I wonder.” That last part was muttered.
Soup and sandwiches? She so modest… I really want to order sushi but it’s a little expensive… But I guess I’ll be going back to work soon though so it’ll be alright if I do splurge. It’s been so many years since I’ve let myself spend a little; especially on a woman. He held up the menu to her at a long list of sushi’s and expensive fish. ”You like sushi? It just… attributes a little more to the date-like atmosphere I’m going for here.” He smiled a little.
”Wow, that’s a pretty sizable amount of time. No wonder the clinic building’s still got that new feel to it. It’s a very nice building. Design it yourself?” his voice seemed a little cold, but he was curious about her, maybe a little too curious for his intentions. ”Wait, you lived in Ecruteak? Isn’t it unusual for people to move away from there? It’s well-known that the people who live there generally stay their entire life. Especially women, who, as I assume you have based on your traditional dress, trained there their whole lives. Yeah I hear lots of men around the uh-“ he was too smart to mention his low-class job to a date, ”workplace would kill for an Ecruteak wife.” He felt like that comment could go many ways, and hoped she wouldn’t get offended.
But then something dawned on him. Yes, usually the women of Ecruteak wouldn’t leave, unless they were expelled or banned for something severe. ”Wait… unless…” He leaned in real close to her, ”unless they are… umm.. you weren’t a… umm.. I mean… you’re too pretty to be… but maybe… you were having a rough time… but you-uh… weren’t a prostitute were you…? Be-because I’ve heard sometimes when women get caught they get expelled and uhh…” His voice slid higher at the end of his sentence, genuinely curious due to all the stereotypes he had heard, but not trying to be rude in the slightest, but he couldn’t help but make the question worse and more and more awkward, ”I mean, I wouldn’t mind if you were… a prostitute… I mean, you’re too respectable for that… aren’t you? I just mean…” he was tripping over his words now.
Idiot! Idiot! IDIOT! Shut up! SHUT UP! He could feel his cheeks heat up and feel like they would burst like a volcano he was so nervous now. Kaname had face-palmed so hard his claws almost broke the skin.

Mariko felt her face heat up quickly, though not out of embarrassment. “How dare you!” She snapped, one hand going on to slap the man who was leaning close to her, making contact easily due to the distance between them. “Of all the disrespectful… I’ll have you know I left Ecruteak to pursue medicine!” Luka tweeted his anger at the man now as, chiming in on his trainer’s anger. After she was sure she had proved her point, or at least made it clear, Mariko then moved to get out of her seat. Forget everything the man had said before now! She had never felt so insulted.
“A prostitute… Of all the blasphemy that could have been spoken…” She muttered to herself as she stood to her full height, fully intending to leave. Luka puffing from where he was in the air.
He was silent. He was swift. His hand shot out and grabbed Mariko’s to deter her from leaving. He didn’t pull her or push her, just anchored her to hear him out. He didn’t care that his cheek was red, he didn’t care about the burn, and all he wanted was to apologize. He practically growled at her,
”I’m sorry. I didn’t accuse you, I was simply asking!” He was so angry he was shaking, but his grip around her wrist was still gentle. He couldn’t shake his feelings out of his voice, but it lowered to a growl, ”I would never actually be able to imagine you as one. No one could.” He felt like her hand was water, like when a child tries to hold onto water and it flows through your fingers. ’I can’t just let her get away like this…
He broke, out of his left eye, a small puddle of tears barely clung to his eye. ”You are my closest friend, please let me formally apologize.” The tears were reabsorbed before they fell. Standing up from his chair, he set himself on one knee and bent low,
”Miss Yamada, I have upset you and I wish to apologize. Someone once told me anything and anyone can be forgiven, if the person’s heart is big enough. I see the way you care for pokemon, you’d rather be detrimental to your health before allowing the pokemon to fall. Well, I’ve already fallen to one knee,” still bent low, his silvery eyes flicked up to meet hers, but in passing, they noticed a woman in the back gasp and run to the hostess. ”now can you find it in your heart to forgive me, a lowly man?”
His pained expression was serene if anything, but his eyes were like steel daggers staring straight into Mariko’s. ”You are my best friend. Besides Kaname of course.” Not that her answer mattered; at least half the restaurant had gathered around them. They were screaming for Mariko to “say yes!” But the only thing Tsubame could think in response was ’Say yes to what?’ He mulled for a moment before he realized… Oh… He wasn’t proposing, but after looking at them, his hand still dead-locked onto hers, him down on one knee looking mistakenly as lovingly into her eyes, he froze in place like a portrait.

Mariko stood there flustered by what was happening. Turning slightly to the man behind her she cleared her throat slightly and in a light, soft voice, she decided to put an end to the scene. “How about this… I will take a seat in my chair, you will sit in yours, and we will discuss this.” As she said this, she signaled to Luka to land on the table. After she had done that, she gently pulled her wrist from Tsubame’s hold and began to ease herself towards her chair so she could sit back down as she said she would. She really didn’t like how she had suddenly been put in the spotlight by the man’s actions, and she was about ready to tell him off about it, but that would have to wait until he took his seat as well.
As Mariko moved to sit, Luka gave a small tweet of uncertainty before he finally decided it was best to follow his trainers command and landed on the table. His eyes, however, did not once leave the man who had upset his trainer. He was in fact glaring at the man so hard, that if he could, he would have set the man… Wait, he did know Overheat! But they were in public, and he didn’t want to burn the restaurant down…
When Mariko retracted her hand, he did not hold her; simply let his fingertips run along her soft skin, like a lovely stream. She awkwardly eased back into her chair while Tsubame, a blank face, returned to his own seat. The crowd they had attracted booed and hollered at Mariko for rejecting him, but he did not care what they said; for it would be the last time he’d ever get to hold her hand. He turned to the stragglers with an angry glare that could actually inflict pain upon the victim. His steely blue eyes were like silver daggers that could slice into your chest cavity and make you feel worthless. Regaining his composure and angrily sighing, his mask shattered and his expression screwed up.
”Pipe down pidgey. I’m leaving.” He sighed darkly and put money on the table to pay for her meal and the appetizer they had ordered. ”This should cover… everything; including almost the most expensive meal here. After all, you did patch up Kaname and this is the best I can offer you.” His throat developed a tumor-like blockade, but he refused to make her any more uncomfortable, especially when he had shattered any chances he had with her. Like a child dropping their parent’s expensive vase, he too would walk away tail between his legs. ”I apologize, and I realize I’ve messed up my chances beyond repair.” He made sure to lock eyes with her, ”Gorgeous, self-supporting woman like yourself?” ’Anything.’ he thought. ”You’re worth a lot more than I am anyway.” ’Anything to say to make her feel like this is the best choice for her. Because I am worthless compared to you.’ He subtly scooted out of his chair and started walking away from the biggest find he had ever discovered; convincing himself that she was way out of his league anyway.
