Okay, he would try to leave. Turning to prove a point, he began to walk towards the area they had just come from... and bounced right back around walking the other direction. "What the actual h-happening?" Even Shard seemed to be surprised by what was going on at the moment. The Snivy had been of the impression that his fellow Pokemon had just hit a reflective surface. Now, however, since Maleko bounced himself against an invisible wall, that theory seemed to be shot. Deciding to try something himself, Shard threw out a vine from his place on Maleko's shoulder back towards the way they had come from only to have it shoot back towards him at a diagonal angle. Stopping it before it hit Maleko and himself, Shard could only stare at the air in shock not sure what else to do. Maleko followed his Pokemon's example and merely stared on as well. Things were getting strange rather quickly.
Well this is just wonderful.... Maya thought, seeing it happen before her eyes was much more surreal and shocking. Dororo gave a shrug of his shoulder's clearly baffled as well.
"Wh-what should we do?" Maya questioned nervously, glancing at the dilapidated ruins just beyond this ruined house. She came here to discover the origin of this feeling... but didn't expect to be trapped in the process. She reached her senses out to feel at the barrier with mental fingers, testing the strange barrier. It was perplexing and frankly didn't make much sense. And strong. However, she probably had the proper tools in her bag to break this barrier... all she had to do was... Maya blinked. Coming from within the ruins... that faint wisp...
Was what smoke? Looking towards the ruins, he tried to see what Maya was seeing. However, it seemed that he was not all that observant since he didn't see anything of the ordinary, except, you know, the ruins of the house in front of them. "Where d-do you see the smoke Maya?" He really did want to know what he was missing. From his shoulder Shard facepalmed and shook his head, sending out a vine to direct Maleko's head towards the direction Maya was looking, forcing the boy to stare that way. Maleko made a small huff of protest to his Pokemon's action but stared where he was directed to stare until his eyes caught the faint shape of something moving through the air. "Oh... that smoke. G-Got it.... I didn't see that before." This was said with an embarrassed laugh and a sheepish smile. But could they really blame him? He was looking for something larger than the little strand that was visible to him now.
Maya smiled briefly at the Snivy, Shard, and Maleko. "Do you suppose that means... there are people here?" Maya questioned, nervously. Part of her wanted to go and find out. The other part just wanted to plop down in the grass and not move until something else happened by some miracle. If there were people here maybe the would come find them. And if it turned out to be a fire type Pokemon for some reason... well then they were doomed if it started a grassfire.
She just stood there uncertainly. Dororo sighed, slumped slightly, before springing up into the sky, blades of grass flying up in his wake. He would go investigate if she wasn't.
People? In this place? He couldn’t really think that anyone would live here with all the damage the houses looked like they had gone through. However, it didn’t really look like would be able to voice that opinion as Maya’s Pokemon took off in the direction the smoke was coming from. “Um… is he supposed to do that?” The question was not needed probably, but Maleko asked it anyways. The boy wasn’t sure what they were going to do now, though he had a guess that they would be following after the leaving Pokemon. He was sure that Maya wouldn’t just let him leave like that, so it must be a moment of rebellion. “If I didn’t know any better, I would say that your Pokemon has chosen our path for us.” This part he finally added as an afterthought to his question of before. Shard merely nodded at what Maleko had just said and then looked at Maya for what she would have to say on the matter.
"Er...." Was all Maya could offer as an answer as she watched Dororo arc and land a distance away near the ruins. Another leap and he was near where the smoke seemed to come from. Dororo had a habit of choosing things for Maya. She was often indecisive and unsure, constantly second guessing herself. Often the Pokemon just huffed, sighed, and made a decision for her.
Finally, she shrugged. "I think I might have a way to break this thing... Maybe." Although it felt like she was missing something. "But Dororo often has a habit of making choices for me..." She hesitated, wondering if he would jump back. When he didn't she sighed and trudged her way towards the ruins. [/font]
So Maya’s Pokemon was known to rebel? Good to know. That made the scene in front of him make more sense. Glancing at Shard, he couldn’t help but feel glad that the most the Snake Pokemon was known to do was slap him on the back of his head when he got a mischievous thought in his head. When Maya started to walk towards the ruins, however, that was when Maleko started question why he was following the woman. All she seemed to be doing was leading him into an odd situation he had not ever thought he would be subjected to. “Ah! Maya w-wait up! Don’t leave me here in t-this weirdness!” This he shouted when he noticed her getting further and further away from him, while he tried to sort out what to do. This is also when he began to move after her, not quite happy to be going further, but not wanting to be left behind when he pretty much had it confirmed he couldn’t leave at the moment from earlier events.
She began passing by ruined wooden houses, collapsing and crumbling foundations getting closer and closer together. There was suddenly a cobble stone road with pieces and chunks missing. One part of the road was heavily fractured, the road cracking in a way that the two pieces met in a pyramid. This was clearly once a city of some sort... but what happened? And what was it doing here? Maya stopped. "Sorry, Maleko," she said turning to look when Dororo appeared again at her side. He nodded his head in a certain direction indicating there was something he wanted her to see. She thought that she maybe saw something moving between two ruined houses.
Thank goodness Maya had slowed down, he wasn't sure he would be able to stay sane if he was by himself in this place. "I-it's okay. Just don't d-do it again please." This was said with a little bit of a quiver to it, of fear or some other emotion he wasn't sure, but it was there. When Maya's rebellious Pokemon reappeared he gave a small head tilt as the Pokemon gestured towards something further ahead. Looking at Shard, he noticed that his best friends eyes were trained in the direction the other Pokemon had gestured, as though he noticed something. The snake Pokemon then looked at Maleko and gestured in the same way Maya's Pokemon had making the boy look towards the area to try and see what his best friend had. Nothing was seen at first... then something akin to movement caught his eye.
"Maya... I d-don't think were alone...." This was said with the quiver a little stronger than before. So it was definitely fear that was making his voice react the way it was.
"N-no I don't think so either..." She said fidgeting, looking around as suddenly a figure appeared from between and Maya jumped as a Misdreavus appeared. She fumbled for her bag, reaching for the cleanse tags just in case. How did she not sense it? In fact her senses were going haywire it appeared. She couldn't place it but even with the tags dampening her spiritual senses there was a peculiar buzz, like the static on a radio, that seemed to override everything else. It was something strange and frankly annoying sense she somewhat depended on those senses.
But rather than the eager and mischievous Pokemon it usually was it drifted aimlessly, like a half inflated balloon being pushed around by a wind. It drifted right past Maya and Maleko. It didn't get very far before it drifted to the ground and slumped into the dark dirt.
"O-oh..." Maya said, confused and slightly horrified.
"Who might you be?" A voice said, and she turned to see a an old weather beaten man in front of them.
Well, that just added a whole new level of unease to this whole endeavor. Staring at the Pokemon on the ground, then at the man that had appeared in front of them, he silently hoped that this was a dream, and that he would wake up in a few moments somewhere within the tall grass of before. Shard’s reactions, however, seemed to be making that a nice impossibility. The Snivy was standing at attention on his shoulder, eyes fixed on the man in front of them, slightly narrowed. The silence after the man’s question could also be seen as a reminder that this event was not a false situation.
“Um… W-We were just passing th-through.” That was the first thing that came to mind to say when the silence became too much to handle.
"Well I'm afraid you won't be passing through here," the old man wheezed, hobbling over to the two.
"What do you mean?" Maya questioned. There were heavy bags under the mans eyes and he slumped like there were sacks of sand on his shoulders. He was old but he also looked like he hadn't slept in a week.
"What I mean young lady is that you and your friend can't leave. Once you're in the cursed village you are here for good."
"You intend to keep us here?" Maya questioned, incredulous. Dororo looked wary, glancing around.
The man looked surprised. "Oh no of course not. We are all trapped here. By that." He pointed behind him. Maya followed his finger and stared in shock. A giant, grand temple, very different from the one she was used to, stood at the top of a hill that seemed to be in the center of the ruins. It was shrouded in a peculiar purplish haze that made Maya shudder. In fact the whole place appeared to be shrouded in peculiar darkness.
"We are all trapped her because of the cursed temple." The man explained.
Not able to leave? Curse Temple? What had they gotten themselves into?! Looking over at Shard, they shared a look that basically spoke those thoughts in unison. Looking to Maya, Maleko decided to ask the question that was now floating around in his head taunting him. “Maya, w-what are we going to do?” This came out shaky and, though he loathed admitting it, very much his age.
Hearing his trainer’s voice the way it was, Shard moved to hug the boy’s neck, as though to try and calm him down while also comforting him in whatever way he could. Truth be told, he had never heard his trainer using the tone of voice that he was using now, and that, in turn, made him all the more nervous about their groups situation. Looking over at Maya then her Pokemon, the Snivy gave a small hissing sound in question of what she wanted to do with the information gathered.
Maya froze mouth open in an 'o' taking all of this in. Cursed Temple? Trapped? Maya had never heard of such a thing or knew what to do. But if that barrier has anything to do with this whole scenario then perhaps..
"I don't know," she replied baffled. "But..." A curiosity plucked at her mind. Sir... you mentioned that there are others? What others? What is wrong with the Pokemon here?" She gestured to the fallen ghost Pokemon. "Explain what is going on."
"My child it is extremely difficult to explain what is wrong here. There are others trapped here after wandering in... like you two. And then like me whose ancestors have been born and died countless times over within this cursed barrier. Everyone here is ill, ghost Pokemon as well, a ceaseless fatigue and insomnia is what we suffer. No sleep. Crops are nothing but weeds." He sighs. "I'm sorry that ones as young as you have stumbled your way in here."
Maya looked at Maleko completely flabbergasted. "I've never heard of such a thing before. I-I don't know what to do..."
Great… now what were they going to do? He didn’t want to end up stuck in this place, no offense to the locals. Looking between the man in front of them, the Misdreavus, Maya, and Shard, he tried to figure out what to do in this situation he found himself in. “Th-There has to be something we can d-do. I c-can’t stay here! I just c-can’t! I need to be able t-to go h-home and open a gym. I need to k-keep my tribe from moving…. I c-can’t lose the place m-my mother loved…. Maya, w-we need to find a way out of here!” This was said, voice so desperate and drenched with the sadness and fear of never seeing his people again, of losing his home, and of losing a good portion of his life if he was to be stuck here.
”D-Do you think, that if we can figure out what is w-wrong with the temple… we could get out? I-I mean….” This is where Maleko stopped, unsure of how to finish the thought that had suddenly hit him. He felt silly for mentioning it since there was obviously no way someone or people without a spiritual background could do anything.
