Astina stood to the side of her tribe as they packed away their things for the morning. One of the hunters had spotted a herd of Sawbuck near them to the south, so that was where they were headed this morning. Astina herself was to stay with her teacher like she always did and prepare for their evening ceremony giving thanks to the Lord and Lady of the Night Sky for whatever food and shelter they were to gather that day. It was a nightly ritual, so Astina knew it well by now, but it was one of the many important duties that she was preparing herself to lead one day when she became a priestess for her tribe so she knew she had to attend to it as well as she could.
Traveling back from the Vile Villa was a major pain. Tsubame’s back hurt, muscles were aching, and his stomach and his pokemon’s were grumbling. He soon realized trudging through the tundra, they would need to stop; they had consumed all of their food by feeding the children from the small village. Sighing because he hadn’t anticipated the extra mouths he had encountered, he needed his bow, but left it at his cabin.
”Kaname, we’re in for a rough trip home. Come on; get in your dusk ball.” Holding the ball up, Kaname used his speed to swat it out of his hand. ”Yikes ‘Name, no need to waste your energy. Okay if you’re going to suffer with me, try to scout out some people, they might share some supplies…”
All that could be seen was the pokemon’s feathers disappearing into the brush and Tsubame near-dropping everything on the ground.

Astina was just about to head to the ceremony when Quartz zipped from her arms, an action the lazy spirit never did unless for something important. Astina could see the fires of the ceremony just ahead of her, but turned to follow her spirit companion to wherever she was going. Quartz went to the very edge of the tight ring of fur homes that Astina and her people lived in before pausing. Astina was about to reach for the bright orange spirit, but missed due to her heading off into the cold night with the only thing giving away her position being the soft glow that came from her very core. Astina hesitated for only a moment before she decided to trust in Quartz and followed after the bobbing light into the snow.
Kaname used his claws to slice his way through the thick brush and broken off branches that lined the frozen floor. But after a while he grew tired and realized he should head back to his trainer since he hadn’t found anything. Upon his return, the pokemon was greeted with the hiking gear and remaining supplies formed in a crappy fort with Tsubame huddled inside of it.
”Hey buddy, find anything?” But the pokemon’s dark expression and silence answered his question. ”It’s alright buddy. We’ll just make camp here and head out in the morning. When the pain gets unbearable I’ll put you back in the ball okay? We’ll be alright buddy.”
Tsubame continued using the snow as a means of water for cleaning off his still bloody hands. Kaname had already cleaned his fur of the mess. After he was done he immediately shoved his purple hands back into the gloves-nights in Eirlys were brutal and Tsubame decided he needed a fire. The ice pokemon was going to head out for brush to feed the upcoming fire with, but was stopped when a pumpakaboo burst through the brush.
”Oh. Hello there. Want in on this fire?” He was still twisting the wood into a log for friction. Please don’t be another ghost type with another mystery, I am too hungry for another adventure. Kaname was examining the pumpkaboo trying to figure out what it was.

It didn't take long for Quartz to stop all of sudden, causing Astina to freeze as well. It wasn't until she heard the voice of a human and saw the light from a budding fire that she decided that Quartz must have brought her here for some reason. She softly cleared her throat as she fixed her robes from the run, edging her way forward so she stood right underneath Quartz. She stared at the man and the Pokemon that appeared to be camping out here without any sort of protection and hardly noticed when Quartz sunk down into her arms again so she could fall asleep. "H-Hello."
After sitting by the pathetic fire with the pokemon for moment, the pumpkin bat thing floated off. Tsubame snorted ”Rude,” but didn’t bother to look after it. Kaname was going to go for another food run, but stopped and disappeared using double team. Tsubame at this became a little unnerved until he heard the squeak of someone saying hello.’ Irritably he shot up and ordered for the intruder to show themselves, his hand clutched a knife in his pocket. He wasn’t worried though. Kaname will have them surrounded even without them noticing.

Astina edged a little further into the light of the fire, patting Quartz so she would brighten the light that she was emitting so they could be seen better. The man looked strange in comparison to the men that Astina had grown up with, especially with the brightly colored hair. She was curious if he spoke the same language as her, though his body language was clearly showing that he was not happy to be disturbed. She held Quartz even tighter to her chest, her breath catching as Ruby peeked around her dress robes. "W-Who are you?"
Slowly as if to show peace, a dark featured young girl emerged from the woods. She was holding the pumpkin spirit. Odd… the silver eyed man thought, Ghost types two of them I’ll bet… and this young girl seems perfectly equipped for this country. There must be a settlement nearby. He didn’t bother changing his stance, but instead dug his heels in the ground. And that means she may not be alone. When asked who he was, he dared not answer her first. Yeah dark types are thieves, but ghost types are dead people.
”It is you who interloped upon me and my business. You introduce yourself first.” The faintest idea that he may be the one intruding was quickly dashed to the back of his mind. Especially when Kaname finally revealed himself with his claws aimed at the girl. ”You shouldn’t be here alone, little girl. There are beasts and many dangers out here; and men. Angry men like me.” His voice stooped to a growl, but after a few seconds his stomach growled so loudly everyone present could easily hear it. Tsubame’s intimidating face screwed up into confusion and slight embarrassment while a lovely shade of rose sprawled across his cheeks. Kaname lowered his claws and sighed; they really were too hungry to really do anything.

"You are hungry, please follow me to my people so we can help you," Astina said quietly, motioning for him to follow her. If the man was so hungry for his stomach to be making those kinds of noises, then it was her duty with her Lady watching over her to help him out instead of allowing him to stay in this cold. She took a few steps back towards where she knew her tribe to be before she turned back to the man with a small smile. "As for your demand, I am the next Priestess of Cresselia, Astina, and you are in the middle of my homeland, I know what dangers live in the night."
Tsubame’s instincts yelled for him to decline the offer, but his literal gut ordered him to follow her. Normally he would’ve listened to his mind, but then again it wasn’t so unorthodox for him to make sacrifices for his friend Kaname who was also probably starving. It was an even easier decision to follow her once she introduced herself. Although he wasn’t fully sure what she had said. ’So there are people here? Though she’s prepared for the weather, she looks a little… feral.’
”Alright Princess Astina. Lead the way.”
But they were stopped by a stray poochyena, it looked as hungry as they were. Kaname immediately swirled around to protect his trainer and his temporary possible food-giver girl thing.

Astina froze at the sight of the small wild Pokemon, unsure of what to do. As a priestess, she was forbidden to do any sort of harm to another creature while her Lord and Lady watched over her, but this Poochyena clearly had no thought of just letting them go by. She looked down at Quartz for a moment before an idea struck her. Holding out her arms towards the Poochyena, she allowed Quartz to float out of her grasp. "Please use your Double Team."
Quartz appeared to yawn in response to her trainer's order before multiple copies of the little Pumpkaboo appeared around the Poochyena in an attempt to confuse it.
Agitated and hungry, Kaname made quick work of the poochyena. First he used his speed to dodge the pumpkaboo copies which worked wonders for confusing the poochyena. Next Kaname appeared to apear next to the poochyena before he delivered a swift ice punch to the lower belly of the poochyena. The small dog swiftly froze over, being consumed in a capsule of ice before the ice shattered leaving a fainted poochyena. Kaname walked away towards Astina and began to herd her away, but stopped to look at Tsubame.
Upon further examination, Tsubame realized just how hungry the lump had been. Even with the rangy fur, it was easy to see the ribs; not only that but it was a young pup-probably estranged from its mother. I guess this place is hard on everyone. He screwed up his face, remembering a time when he was young at Snowpoint City. He was taken into the temple for shelter from the cold and food after an avalanche had taken the lives of many of his coworkers. He stood in front of the fainted pokemon for a long time it felt.
*We don’t even have the things we need to take care of ourselves Tsubame.* Kaname angrily picked up the luggage and dropped it by Tsubame’s feet. But Tsubame didn’t catch Kaname’s expression because he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the puppy. Sighing, his decision was made and he heaved the supply bag onto his back, and looking back to Kaname who only rolled his eyes, Tsubame also picked up the starving young pup. It was way too easy. Finally, he met back with Astina.
”Princess Astina? Your highness?” He had misheard her, ”Please take us to food. I can repay you. Somehow.” His tone was sad and annoyed, but he held out the pup for her to also examine, ”Do you think he’s worth saving?”

Astina was unsure of the word that he kept placing before her name. Maybe he was trying to say priestess but had a strange accent that did not allow for him to do so. Whatever the case, she was sure it was not a bother to her. As Quartz came back into her arms, Astina looked at the poor pup who had tried to attack them and gave a swift nod.
"My teacher will have what we need to treat him," she told Tsubame before she turned to head back towards where she knew her people would be. She paused before she could take a step to look back at the much older man that looked worn down and tired in her eyes. "And all creatures are worth saving."
Without another word, she began the slow trudge through the snow back towards her tribe so she could get help for her three guests, Quartz' light allowing her to see in the pitch black of the night.
’Teacher? Why in the world would a princess have a teacher? They don’t go to school with everyone else.’ His brow furrowed as he thought, following the dark haired young girl. The pup in his arms never stirred their entire journey. But Astina’s words kept dashing through his thoughts, even the ones he had of Mariko trying to warm himself up. ’All creature are worth saving.’ At first, he thought of all the people who had burned him in the past. He begged to differ. Wandering further and further with the girl, he was really beginning to question his whole life leading up to this moment. ’I guess they didn’t actually kill me so they shouldn’t die… just be tortured. A lot.’ He thought with a stupid, maybe even evil grin. But his mind couldn’t stop asking why was he following this girl? It could have been a trap. It could have been anything. But mostly, it was the burn of his hollowed stomach that probably led him to think so deeply about these things. Running on fumes, perhaps he was getting a hunger high, whatever that might have meant. But he said nothing and trudged on behind the light of the pokemon who floated so effortlessly over the deep, angry snow.

It did not take long for them to reach the outskirts of the clearing the tribe had created for themselves that night. Astina thought nothing of the various leather and fur huts that her people lived in that were being lit up by the large bonfire that was the centerpiece of their dinner ceremony. She wondered briefly if her presence had been missed or if they had gone ahead without her, but did not worry for long as she noticed that her people were all eating what little of a meal they had been able to gather that day. There were so few people in the tribe anymore that it was starting to become hard to find food and keep themselves protected at the same time. Their warriors did the best that they could, but sometimes they just did not have the numbers to take on wild Pokemon in order to bring home meat for the night. From the looks of that night's meal, they had taken to ending the life of a pair of the captive Starly.
Astina led Tsubame through the campsite to a small table that was set near the fire. There her teacher, an elderly man that wore a dark robe that matched the night sky, was seated with two plates of food in front of him. He, unlike the others of her tribe, had waited for her return before he ate.
"Priest Hokama, I have found someone who is starving, would it be alright if we shared our food with him?" she asked quietly as she sat next to him on the fur mat their table rested on. Hokama did not open his eyes nor did he move from his meditative position, but a simple bob of his head allowed Astina to know that she had gained permission. She turned towards Tsubame to motion him to sit beside her before she began to separate the food on her own plate to give to him.
