Akane had imagined Zandrophin giving them a performance to remember, but he surprised her with a performance that won’t soon be forgotten. Ready to jump at any call for help, she had already relaxed by the time he leaned down to Rose. It’s common knowledge that much like children, trainers are the first to examine and decide how to heal their pokemon. Akane had ordered many members of the audience to sit while he allowed the grass type pokemon with incredible healing abilities to heal herself at the cost of his own strength. She approached him.
”Zandrophin, that performance was fantastic. Everything I had wanted in a routine; showing yours and your pokemon’s strengths, as well as your bond ad trust in one another. The mere fact you’d let this pokemon attack you shows me the appropriate bond I was looking for. This means she trusts and know you will dodge, and you know she will always do as she is asked even if it puts you in danger. Congratulations Zandrophin, you can take that score to the bank.
Now lastly, but certainly not leastly, let us welcome our rookie and underdog in this competition, Mr. Maleko!” She leaned over to Chazz,
”Looks like whatever dreamy paradise you’ve envisioned, is now down to a party of three.”
Akane could never be mad at him, but she certainly got as close as you could when the bloodhound caught the scent of an attractive woman… or in more desperate times just a woman.

Zandrophin left the stage with a bow. He went into the entrance hallway and slumped against the wall, his confident expression cracked slightly as he took in the pain. He took his knife and cut some of the fabric from his undershirt to make a crude bandage to staunch the bloodflow. After tying off the wrapping, he put his overshirt back on buttoned it up, and tucked it back in. He heard the call for Maleko and saw the boy walking through the hall. He stood up more straight as his fellow competitor walked past him. He said with a confident grin on his face,
"Get to it, kid....I got them all warmed up for you. Good luck."
Zandrophin walked back to his room to further address his wound and to begin his meditation.

Her joke to Chazz almost made him spit out his drink. She was playing along and didn't hit him over the head with a random object. It was a good day. Chazz leaned in close to Akane and spoke in his very Chazzerific tone. "Well, that just means there will be more Chazz to go around for you, and pretty miss togepi girl over there. Careful you may be the Queen of Fire, but things can get quite hot." He almost broke down laughing mid sentence.
It was his turn. He was not ready for this, not at all, but he would have to do this. Looking between Shard and Mistletoe, he thought about who he should choose. Mistletoe might have some of the flashier moves, but Shard was the one he had had the longest. Shard was the first Pokemon he had gotten, and it was all because of… his flute! Of course! Why had he not thought of it? Looking at Mistletoe he gave her an apologetic smile. “Mist, I’m sorry, but can you wait back here for me and Shard?” The small Deerling gave a small pout but nodded. Maleko gave another apologetic smile and looked at Shard who was now perched on his shoulder. “Ready to go?” Shard looked at him confused, but he nodded.
The two entered onto the stage, Maleko going towards the back, while Shard jumped off his shoulder to head to the center of the stage. At that moment, Maleko could only hope he was not going to get disqualified for this. Reaching into the pocket that didn’t have his Pokeballs, he pulled out his flute and lifted it to his lips. Taking a deep breath, he nodded to Shard and then began to play, his eyes sliding closed as the music score began to form in his mind. It was the generic tune he had come up with when his father had first given him the flute, but it was the tune that had brought him and Shard together.
Shard started to sway to the music, his eyes sliding closed as well. Maleko then began to move, any commands he would have made coming out in the music instead of through his mouth. Yes, Zandrophin had used music in his performance, but that was created by his Pokemon (which was beautiful in its own right), this was from his heart and through his flute. Slowly he began to move towards Shard, not once stopping the music, his movement’s fluid and matching the pace he was playing. Shard, at that point, had the vines for a Vine Whip start spreading out on both sides of him, both of them swaying with the music as well. The vines then moved into the formation for Wrap in the air as Shard began to spin making the Wrap formation spin with him. Maleko, though it would have been easier without his dress shoes, began to spin as well, his motion being that of a well trained dancer, his eyes still closed.
As Shard started to move out of the motion, Maleko too, stopped this time moving to the side, one leg crossing in front of the other, while Shard began to produce Leech Seeds, and then juggle them gently with an actual Vine Whip. He directed them around the stage, making them fall like leaves at fall time, changing their paths every so often with a slight breeze caused by the vines.
Soon the song began to come to a finish, and Maleko opened his eyes and moved once more to where he could stand behind Shard. Shard also opened his eyes and took that as the moment to jump up (this time in a back flip like motion), as he normally did, onto Maleko’s shoulder, but not before he let a spray of toxic out in a final curtain formation a ways out in front of them. When the curtain finally fell, Maleko and Shard were both in a bow, having timed it when they saw the curtain nearing the top of Maleko’s head. Rising up from the bow, the two shared a look and a nod before making their exit from the stage.
”Doom, please use will-o-wisp on Chazz.” as she said it, doom released a single low intensity, red wisp over to Chazz where it found its mark on a patch of exposed skin from his arm; a burn that would last a week tops. A sly smirk propped a corner of her lip up. The red woman could not be any happier. The underdog went and pulled out something highly unique-a flute. The queen figured that his athletic abilities may have been lacking, but physical ability is a broad spectrum and he nailed it. She watched him leave the stage before she addressed him, so she withheld her criticism.
”Well everyone I’ve got to go over my notes, and announce the winner based on total points earned. Please excuse me for a 20 minute intermission.” on the snap of her fingers, two guards flocked to her flanks and escorted her to a special room for the judge(s) to decide.

Chazz glared at Mr. Doom. The Pokemon, looked at him with eyes, that said, "She made me do it man." Chazz smiled and threw him a bone. He ran off to chomp on his prize. As Akane stood up Chazz struck back. "So, you like to play dirty?" He turned away from her to the crowd. Touched the pendent above his armor and two more guards shadowed Akane. Chazz started spinning his sword and moving in different motions, releasing it in the air, then catching it while spinning.

Zandrophin entered his assigned room, closed the door, walked into the center of the room, and instantly dropped to his knees for his meditation. Mentus hovered around the room a bit before joining him.
I think we did well, old friend.
Sir, we've been through many performances...but I think that was one of your best. You showed what you're truly capable of...what we are truly capable of. We are proud of you.
I appreciate that, old friend. Now...rest a bit...I need to meditate on my own...speed up the healing process...
As the intermission neared its end, one of the soldiers walked into the room without even knocking. This was not received very well, as Zandrophin jumped from the sudden noise and rushed across the room. Before the soldier knew what was going on, he was pinned against the wall with the cold steel of a knife pressed against his neck. Zandrophin spoke calmly...but it was that kind of sadistic calm, like that of a madman,
"Tell me...what possessed you to just barge in on a guest? Did your parents never teach you basic courtesy? I've got a mind to--"
He looked up and saw the orderly from before was in his grasp. He couldn't help but chuckle.
"Well...well...well.....why am I not surprised..."
"S-sorry....w-wrong r-r-room.." the man managed to stutter.
"Oh no, friend...you're in the right room. What is so important that you'd interrupt my meditation?"
"Y-you're requested ba-ack at the a-arena."
Zandrophin's grip relaxed a bit.
"Ah...I see. Very well. Oh...before you go..."
Zandrophin siezed the man's right hand and cut his palm. The man cried out in pain. Zandrophin cleaned his knife as he walked out of the room, Mentus now on his shoulder,
"A little reminder to knock, next time."
A small dark chuckle followed him down the hall...back towards the arena.
I must inform Lady Akane about this...that man REALLY needs to be reassigned...

He couldn't believe he had made it through the performance! He also couldn't believe that he hadn't fainted yet. He was currently in his backstage room watching Shard and Mistletoe play. The two of them seemed at ease while he felt knots forming in his stomach. He really did need to calm down. Seriously, he was going to be sick if he continued to stress. Maybe playing his flute some more? Yeah, that sounded good. Pulling his flute from his pocket he began to play softly, waiting until he was signaled to come back out by the guard outside his door. His flute always made him feel a lot better, so this was hopefully going to make the knots go away.
Nicole couldn't be more grateful that she was the first one to go on stage. It may have been rude, but as soon as she had left the stage, she had gone to the back to collect Nero and Rhea, to find a scene of chaos. The guard that had been watching Rhea seemed to have stopped being amusing to the baby Pokemon and she was already starting the waterworks while Nero was to the side trying to calm her down with little calls and some nuzzling. The guard had been more than willing to hand the Togepi back to her and Nicole couldn't help but apologize profusely to which the guard waved off. Rhea could not be happier to be back in her arms, trilling happily and reaching to her face. Phaedra, who had been behind her the whole time, moved forward and began calling out the baby in a game of "find me" while Nero joined in on the other side. The two only stopped when Nicole told them that they should move into the waiting room so that they weren't in the way.
Now here she was sitting and waiting for the results, Nero and Phaedra both sitting on the ground with Rhea keeping her occupied so that Nicole could have a small break from holding her. Nicole couldn't help but smile at the scene. She was glad that the two had taken so quickly to the newest edition to their little group. It certainly had surprised her when she had found Rhea's egg, during her wandering, and it hatched when she picked it up. Nero had been sort of jealous at first until he realized Nicole was still treating him the same way, while Phaedra seemed unfazed and instantly appointed herself as nanny.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door that broke her out of her thoughts and made Nero and Phaedra's attention turn briefly to the door. Getting up Nicole opened the door to see the guard in charge of it.
"It's time to move back stage." He informed her making her nod her thanks and turn to her Pokemon. "Well, looks like it's time to go." She said going and picking up Rhea, while Nero and Phaedra both stood, ready to leave the room.
"I guess normal was never supposed to be a word for me." - Nicole
Eira allowed herself to be escorted to a waiting room where doctors were waiting to examine her. After reassuring them that it wasn't anything too bad, especially nothing for them to be so stressed out about, she was bandaged up for a severe sprain that she was apparently lucky didn't turn into something worse like a fracture. Grace started to cry loudly at the idea that she had hurt her mama during their performance, but Eira was quick to reassure her that everything was fine and that Grace had done a fantastic job. It wasn't on her if Akane didn't think their bond was strong after witnessing a Return that sent them so high into the air.
After some time to rest, Eira was escorted back to the stage to receive Akane's judgement on the performances, the younger queen trying to hide her slight limp as she walked.

Two Haunters emerged from the walls and surrounded Zandrophon. From what would appear to be out of nowhere two guards emerged. They were not the regular castle guards. These men were the royal guardsmen. Clad in all black armor, silently moving around Zandrophin in a passive way. They payed no heed to him and and looked at the terrified guard. From behind one of the guards an Alakazam emerged. "Don't worry, any sign of violence in this castle and this guy alerts the royal guard." Chazz walked down the hallway toward Zandrophin. "It appears trouble finds you everywhere Zandrophin." Chazz stopped and looked at the Alakazam, curiously observing Zandrophin. In Chazz's mind the entire situation was told to him through pictures.
"Well!" Chazz glared toward the guard. "Name. Now!!" Chazz's tone was furious. The castle guards had orders to not enter a room, unannounced. The guard sheepishly gave his name. "Williamson, Sir." The guard looked terrified. "Ohh really?" Chazz looked on almost menacingly. "Your Cousin is pretty high in the ranks now?" Getting information from the Alakazam, Chazz smiled. Chazz motioned to one of his guards. "Please find his cousin and inform him he demoted one level, and is re-assigned to the Ashen lands. Using family ties, and not Merritt to increase in rank." Chazz stared at the soldier. "It will not happen, in my outfit. You son will be going back to basic, and stripped of all rank. Leave my sight." The Royal guardsmen walked the young guard away.
"Well, this was fun wasn't it? So we don't have this problem again, you see this other guard Zandrophin? He will not speak to you, or bother you, and will only give a double tap to your door when you have been summoned. My deepest apologies, should have know something would happen if I didn't give you a royal guardsmen. My mistake. " The haunters and the Alakazam disappeared as fast as they had arrived.
Chazz stood there looking at Zandrophin, "The Alakazam, you saw was very interested in you. What you didn't think you were the only one with the idea of using psychic pokemon? You are wise to do so, and to have such a relationship with your Mentus." Chazz nodded in respect and began to walk away. He turned toward Zandrophin and smiled, "I wouldn't advise attacking your new guard. " Chazz laughed and continued walking.

Zandrophin reacted as soon as the guards basically came out of the walls. He saw the Alakazam and he locked out his mind, as part of his training back in Saffron.
Sir...it's not here for you...but for the guard.
Zandrophin relaxed a bit, but not too much. After Chazz basically cut the moronic guard out of the military, Zandrophin couldn't help but grin a bit...it was about time. He'd had enough of this man. The guard who was now posted was not terribly necessary, as Zandrophin was already on his way out, heading towards the arena before the end of the intermission. He appreciated the gesture, all the same.

The red woman could feel the blood rush back to her cheek after she remove her hand. Alone in her room she could slump over her desk in an un-royalty like posture. But she straightened herself when she had finally calculated the scores. She shook her head at the results and carried her new notes with her back to the stage. The guards had already aligned the four contestants with Nicole and Eira to her right, and Zandrophin and Maleko to her left. Upon her entrance waves of applause greeted their queen.
”Thank you all for joining us on this fine day. So now it’s time for the scores to be announced. I know I was surprised by the second round how much the scores changed around. So without further ado, I shall begin with the lowest scores.
In fourth place Maleko with an impressive 34. Your final performance was captivating, and for a rookie contest performer? You should be proud of that score.”
She shifted while the audience clapped. The young man would be swarmed with fans very easily. She smiled sweetly as her precious houndoom carried over a package with his prize money. He swiftly deposited Maleko’s money before he bowed and returned to his master’s side.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Fourth place huh? Well, he was a beginner, what did he expect? Still to have his second performance complimented did make him feel better. Nodding back to the Houndoom, he gladly accepted the prize money and gave a small bow of thanks to the queen. On his shoulder, Shard was looking at the package with the prize money, knowing that it would be a big help to Maleko's, his, and Mistletoe's, travels. Maleko then placed his hands to the side, holding the package with the prize money to his side as he politely waited for the rest of the results to be announced by the woman in front of them. This kind of reminded him of when he was told he was old enough to work in the fields by the elders, a right of passage, only it was a gauged by performance and not age.
Still though, for him to do as well as he did at a beginning level, he was pretty satisfied.
The red haired woman smiled at Maleko’s gratefulness; however the smile quickly faded as the preliminary round favorite by far, failed to read past sharing a bond with to and showing friendship and trust in that pokemon.
”Now I know I can say that I’m as disappointed as the next guy in my fellow queen’s secondary round score. Being the favorite and highest scorer in the first round I thought for sure this veteran coordinator had it won. But she did something that surprised me. She used a baby pokemon who wasn’t fully trained.
Now while that showed me a great bond between mother and child, it wasn’t a true testament to their friendship that will follow in time, and for that matter trust. I saw many times a surprised or shocked face from Lady Eira; many times. While that return was impressive in its own right and earned many points, simply running around and catching the pokemon as it just did unpracticed moves and even allowing yourself to get injured because you either did not know or did not expect, or whatever the reasoning you were not prepared for a return of that magnitude, is not enough to win you points in my view.
Judging by your continuous surprise, I don’t imagine this would be a pokemon you would call upon in your time of need, yet. I do however, see a great deal of potential and I hope when Grace is trained more, that you do return here and show us what she is truly capable of. No one can deny happiny’s love for you however, and that has earned you a well-deserved third place with thirty-six points.
Please accept Doom’s parcel of prize money.”
Out of respect, the red queen bowed to her ally queen Eira. The red lady hoped she could do as well as or better the next time she entered another of Eira’s contests.
