Phaedra continued to shake her tail, waiting Nicole’s next command. Nicole didn’t disappoint as she smiled slightly. “Phaedra, he’s close again. I don’t want to take this chance… but maybe it is needed. Turn around and use Flame Charge again!” She called out. She had to time what she was doing perfectly, and she could only hope that the flames would make the poison in the attack less viable. Right now she was taking a gamble. That didn’t seem to matter to Phaedra though as she turned and covered herself with flames, charging forward to meet the Drapion’s attack.

The two attacks connected explosively, this time, though Scorpio was able to grab ahold of Phaedra as he was sent flying and hurled her HARD into the wall, leaving a small crater in the stone when she impacted against the wall. Scorpio winced from his burn again as he skidded across the surface of the arena and panted from exhaustion. the little pokemon had really made him work hard and he was getting spent.
Nicole held back a gasp as Phaedra hit the wall. The little Braixen let out an annoyed growl, however, and pushed herself up. She grabbed her stick which was laying just within reach and straightened herself up. Nicole immediately eyed her carefully. There was a small scratch on her arm that looked to be tinged with a small amount of purple. Shoot... Okay... Possible poisoning was confirmed. Now she really needed to amp up the... Then it clicked. A small smile crossed her face. Maybe Pheadra could keep going a little longer.
"Phaedra, we have to move double time now. I think you have been poisoned. But we have your ability don't we?" Nicole called getting a look from Phaedra that spoke about how much she understood. "Now how about we use a Fire Blast that covers the whole floor?" Phaedra moved immediately to do just that, a large amount of fire building up and billowing out from the stick in her hand.

Z narrowed his eyes at the command, "Scorpio, how much can you take?" *A bit more. I'll be fine.* "Alright," said Z, "you know what to do." *It'll hurt, but I'm ready.*
Scorpio closed its eyes and braced itself for the blast of fire that would hit it, knowing the plan that Z had and hoping to Arceus that it would work and that he wouldn't end up a fried scorpion flambe. Z motioned to the announcer and heat shields were raised in front of both competitors to protect them from the attacks of the pokemon.
Nicole's smile grew slightly. "Now Phaedra, Psychic on the fire and close him in!" She shouted watching as the stick once more took on a glow and the fire on the ground began to be shoved in around the Drapion. It seemed both sides had a plan, and with the small flinch Phaedra had given, Nicole had to initiate hers just a little faster than Z initiated his. It was now another battle of timing. That seemed to be what this first match was made of. The Drapion was fast, but Phaedra had resilience, though it was being beaten on at the moment.

Z waited for the fire to hit Scorpio. Once it did Z called out his command: "PAYBACK!" Scorpio charged energy into its claws and launched itself at the smaller pokemon. His dark type attack tore through the psychic and fire attacks, leaving some burns and injuries, but they were ignored as he flew at the smaller pokemon as he aimed his charged claws at the Fire/psychic type, hoping to land his powerful dark type attack that was powered up by the damage.
Nicole took a deep breath and called out, "Phaedra, Fire Charge". Phaedra began to summon fire around her as quickly as possible while Nicole turned her attention to Z. "This attack might do damage, but not type damage. As you said, know your types. Phaedra is only a Fire type. She can use Psychic moves, but she is still only a fire type. She doesn't add Psychic to her typing until she evolves." She remarked. Sadly, she was sure this was going to be the last blow Phaedra could take if they wanted to stay in this battle. With her being poisoned, and beat up like she was, it was most likely not long before she was out for the count.

Scorpio slammed into Phaedra, and the two of them were engulfed in a large blast that sent Scorpio flying to the ground. Scorpio got to his feet and groggily looked around for his opponent. Z crossed his fingers, hoping that the battle was over, because if it wasn't, he would have lost, due to scorpio's injuries from the battle so far. Scorpio winced again from his burn and stumbled a bit.
When the dust cleared, Phaedra was still standing, a small triumphant look on her face. There was another scratch on her, this one somehow on her leg, but she was still standing. She was also giving a small flinch here and there due to her poisoning... But still somehow on planet earth, standing. Nicole's eyes were actually wide at this. She was sure Phaedra would be down after that blow. She had even started reaching for the Braixen's Pokeball in order to call her in. This was not the sight she had expected to see. Quickly she turned her attention to Z. It wasn't her call it seemed... It seemed it was up to the gym leader to assess and make a call.
She kept her hand on Phaedra's Pokeball though. Honestly, with her lack of trainer knowledge, she wasn't sure what to make of this....

Nicole could not believe what she was hearing. Phaedra had... Won? Shaking off her shock she pulled said Pokemon's Pokeball from her backpack. "Great job Phaedra, rest for a while." She said, calling the Pokemon back. When Z called out his next Pokemon, Nicole took a moment to calm down before looking over at Nero. "You're up." She told him watching as he nodded and moved to take his place on the field.
"Let's go mega," said Z raising his arm. his sleeve slid back to reveal a wristband with a stone set into it on his wrist. Z brought his fingers to the stone and it began to glow. A similar stone set in a band on Sparky's wrist glowed and she was enveloped in a torrent of fire that obscured her from view. when the energy cleared, sparky was seen standing in her mega form. She let out a roar and got into a muay thai fighting stance.
Both and Nicole and Nero's eyes widened at the transformation done by the Blaziken. "Okay... That's new." Nicole couldn't help but mutter before looking at Nero. "Guess this battle is just getting started?" She asked getting a small nod from the Pokemon who turned his attention forward. "Alright then. Nero, when we start we're going to have to think fast. Be ready for that. There is too much of an unknown factor here." This gained another nod from the Ninetails. Taking a deep breath, Nicole lifted her eyes to look at the arena. This was going to be an interesting battle, a fight of fire versus fire. The only factor which made this battle difficult to determine was this... Mega thing.
"Sparky," said Z, "hit him with a flame charge!" Sparky nodded and covered herself with flames and charged at the ninetails like a football linebacker. Sparky knew Z's strategy and tore a burning streak across the floor of the arena as she ran across the floor at Nero, aiming to slam into it at full force to deal some damage to the fire type. Z watched this battle and smiled. It had been worth all the extra effort it took to obtain the mega ring and mega stone.
Nicole watched as the Blaziken began charging forward in a Flame Charge. Z seemed to really favor attacks that were up close and personal. Waiting until the Blaziken was just close enough, Nicole called out: "Nero, Hyper Beam, Go!" Not even before Nicole had said "go", did the area around Nero's closed mouth start to shine brightly. Seeming to take the cue from how far the Blaziken was as well, he opened his mouth and fired the beam. Nicole almost had to cover her eyes at the light given off by the powerful attack that she hoped would throw off the charge headed towards her best friend. Lucky for her, she liked to play with timing when it came to calling out attacks so it made this battle all the more interesting.
