The statement about him wanting to own a gym being a big dream kind of annoyed him. However, it wasn't to far off either. He was going to have to work super hard for him to make it. "To answer your q-question, I want to have a Grass type gym." Shard once again puffs up in pride. "Shard was the one who made me d-decide on that. Not to make the gym, b-but to make it a Grass type." Maleko gave his friend a smile which the Pokemon returned. "So, I answered my f-favorite type of Pokemon, what is yours?" He was truly curious. He was guessing Ice Pokemon because of the Smoochum, but he couldn't judge by one Pokemon. Shard seemed to be curious as well since he had tilted his head in a manner that seemed to signal it.
Mariko smiled at the curiosity shown by Maleko. “In all honesty, my favored type is flying types. They are the type that resonates with me most. Snowdrop here, however, is my exception to the rule.” She answered before she looked over at Shard. “And he seems proud to be the reason you are favoring a Grass type gym.” She said watching the Snivy puff up with pride. Of course, at that moment she also felt her need to observe kick in. The Snivy was indeed in good health, as was his trainer. That meant they hadn’t run into any trouble on the way here. To her, that was a good thing. It meant they hadn’t been stopped by that man she had been hearing about that had claim over the whole of the Southern and Eastern plains.
Not wanting to bring that up for fear of what she might learn, Mariko began to think of another topic to bring up. It was either that, or she went silent, and it seemed the boy wanted to talk to her as much as possible. It was odd, but she wasn’t about to complain. Once she had somehow gotten pulling a prank out of his mind, he was actually a very interesting and somewhat sweet kid.
So... the conversation had come to a halt. Maleko wasn't sure what to do now. At that moment, a waitress came over and asked him if he would like anything. Thankful for the distraction that would probably help with the lag in conversation, he order a cup of jasmine tea and some dango. The waitress gave a smile and nodded saying it would be out soon. Once she walked away, Maleko turned his attention back to Mariko and decided to try and find something to talk about. "So... I've been w-wondering... if you are here, then what about your c-clinic?" This question had been bugging him, but he hadn't felt the need to ask until now. The lag in conversation, made things different and he felt the need to ask grow.
"My clinic is being watched by a trusted friend. I figured they would need to get used to it in case I left for a longer while than just a break. I've been training them on and off." Mariko answered, grateful for the conversation pause being ended. "I plan on entering contests so there are times I will need to leave Pyron." At that moment Snowdrop started to stir once more and caused Mariko to look away from Maleko. She also was remember, and hoping it was still warm, that she had tea to finish. Shifting Snowdrop closer to her using one arm, she moved the other to the tea cup which she lifted up. Upon seeing Snowdrop's eyes fully open, Mariko gave a small smile and moved the tea cup that had a very small amount left in it, and placed it in front of the baby Pokemon's lips. She had found that giving the Smoochum tea soon after a nap made her calmer. This point she had wished she had remembered when the little one was awake earlier.
Contests? What were those? He only knew of the gym that rested in Starforge.... Shard also looked a little on the confused side. "What are c-contests? And where d-do they take place? And can anyone enter t-them?" He knew he was asking the questions too quickly but he wanted to know. These contests sounded interesting. Maybe if he came across one he would participate? I guess that would depend on what the woman answered. When he went silent, he took to observing Mariko and how she took care of the Pokemon in her arms. She looked like a natural when it came to raising the small Pokemon. Honestly, he wasn't sure he could do something like what she was. Baby Pokemon seemed to need a lot of attention....
Mariko actually started to giggle at the rapidly asked questions. "Slow down. I'll answer your questions." She assured putting her now empty tea cup on the table. Snowdrop was now a little calmer and was merely laying in Mariko's hold contently. "To answer your first and second question, contests are where mostly people called coordinators participate in shows that are based around their Pokemon, these take place in contest halls. However, and this answers your third question, normal trainers can also participate in contests. Those who participate in them normally, sometimes use them to show the bond between the trainer and the Pokemon." Smiling softly she decided that maybe telling Maleko why she stuck with contests. "It's rare that contests have battles involved with them, and, due to my profession, I prefer to avoid battles if I can. I don't like seeing injured Pokemon, nor do I like to see the trainer hurt as well. But this is just my personal philosophy. Other people have different reasons." She finished. She then turned her attention back to Snowdrop briefly to see that her eyes were once again trained on the Snivy, though this time she was not wiggling, just observing. It was actually sort of cute.
So contests are like performances? That made them sound interesting. Maleko looked over at Shard to see his response, only to notice that he was occupied in another stare down with the Smoochum in Mariko's arms. "Would you s-stop that?" Shard gave Maleko a quick look at the annoyed command, but then returned to his prior actions, not seeming to care. Sighing, Maleko was about to ask another question when the waitress came back with his tea and dango. With a small 'thank you' Maleko pulled out the money he would owe and placed it next to Shard to keep track of it. The waitress gave another smile before she walked away to take care of another table. Turning back to Mariko he finally asked his question. "So have y-you taken place in any contests yet? And do you k-know of one coming up?" They really did sound like fun, and it seemed to be a great way to test his teamwork with his Pokemon.
"The answer to both your questions is no actually. I only know of two contest halls and those are in Ignacia and the other is in Silvertree." Mariko responded before tilting her head in thought. Those were the only two right? Hm... She wasn't sure. No, wait, yes those were the only two. By now, Snowdrop and the Snivy's staring match seemed to be becoming a battle of wills with neither one of them giving up. Mariko looked down at the baby Pokemon with a raised eyebrow, wondering what was up. The two didn't seem to be doing it out of hostility though, so that was good. Looking back at Maleko she couldn't help but giggle again when the Snivy seemed to ignore the boy whom seemed to not find the disobedience amusing at all.
Ignacia wasn't that the royal city? And Silvertree... wasn't that in Eirlys? No wonder he didn't know too much about them. It wasn't until recently that he had found out much of anything outside of the Eastern Plains. Picking up his tea, he took a sip and immediately felt himself relax. It was just like the tea made from the fresh Jasmine they had back in his village. It was a taste of home. Looking at Shard once more he decided to put an end to the stare down. "Hey Shard, if you d-don't stop, no dango." The reaction was instantaneous. Shard looked away from the Smoochum and towards Maleko with a look of horror on his face. Maleko was sure that if he could speak human he would be hearing the word "blasphemy" being shouted at him. "L-Leave the baby Pokemon alone. She's young so it's fine for her to a-act like this, but your older and s-should be setting a good example." A sheepish look crossed Shard's face then. It was obvious he understood Maleko's words were correct.
Mariko really didn't know what to think about the two in front of her, but one thing was for sure. "You two are highly amusing." Whoops... She hadn't meant to say that out loud. Raising her unoccupied hand to her mouth, she felt her cheeks turning slightly red. "I'm sorry if that sounded like a slight...." She really hoped that Maleko would not find what she said to be offensive. She usually was careful with what she said, but she didn't seem to do so this time around. All-the-while, Snowdrop seemed to not be happy due to the fact that her staring match had ended. She seemed to really want the attention of the Snivy since, to her, her momma was busy talking to the other human.
He and Shard were amusing? Well he guessed that they were. Why would Mariko think he would see his words as a slight? That was a little weird... but maybe it was because of the way she was raised? "It's okay. I d-don't see what you were saying as a slight." He couldn't help but need to reassure the woman. She obviously was embarrassed for whatever reason. While he was reassuring Mariko that he wasn't offended, Shard had taken it upon himself to take one of the dango, and was currently eating it happily, a vine holding onto a second one for him to consume when he was done with his first. Maleko, finally noticing that, gave the Pokemon a not at all amused look and took the last dango on the stick holding them. Why was it that Shard seemed to find his pranks despicable, but he would pull something like this any time of day?
Mariko let out a sigh of relief when Maleko said he hadn't found what she said offensive. Usually she wouldn't think that she was in the wrong, but when she would say something like that in the past she remembered being reprimanded. She sometimes forgot that she was not in the theater anymore and that comments like the one she had made was perfectly normal in a non-formal setting. "That's good to know. Forgive me if the reaction I gave was strange. I was raised in a formal environment." She explained with a small amount of embarassment. The embarassment was then replaced with amusment as she watched Maleko and his Snivy, Shard, fight over the dango. It was really was amusing to watch.
A formal environment? That explained some of Mariko's mannerisms. Before going to comment on this, Maleko was stopped by Shard stealing yet another dango from the plate making for his third one while Maleko had only had one. "Shard, e-enough. Let me at least have some." Shard gave a small pout, but still pulled the dango he had taken close to him, claiming it. Sighing Maleko shook his head, but moved the plate away from Shard and turned his attention back to Mariko. "Were you a n-noble in Ecruteak then?" He had no idea what kind of place Johto was, but it sounded like the place Mariko was had a hierarchy.
"No, I grew up in the dance theater there. I've never really thought of it as nobility...." Mariko explained trying to picture the theater as a frivolous place. The image was slightly disturbing. Shaking her head, she tried to clear the image. She was sure the action would gain a confused look, but she needed to do it. "The theater was a simple place. There wasn't the need to be frivolous there." She finally said having cleared the image of before out of her head. The thought then hit her that it was getting late and she would need to leave soon in order to get home in time. There were people willing to give others rides to Pyron, but usually they wanted to avoid travel at night. Sighing, because she really hated leaving a conversation in such a way, she decided to let Maleko know she was about to leave.
"Maleko, forgive me but it is getting late and I have to return to Pyron so that I can go to work tomorrow." She apologized as she moved to get her money out to pay for her tea, all-the-while being careful to not wake up the once again asleep Smoochum in her hold.
(Maleko: It seems we both agree that this thread seems to be heading to an end. Thank you for responding to my message in a timely manner. After both of our last couple of posts I change the status to closed.)
It was that late already? Well... he guessed it was. Looking down at the tea he had been drinking whenever he had the chance, and was not saving the rest of the dango (which he had eaten during Mariko's explanation of the place she grew up), he noticed he was done and placed the cup on the table. He then moved the money from its place next to Shard so that the waitress could collect it when she came back by. "No, I understand. It seems like you are n-needed. Question though, d-do you know where a cheap inn is? He really needed to know since he figured he should probably get to bed soon. It was hard to believe, but Shard was actually the grumpy one when he didn't get his sleep.
