Her challenge range throughout the throne room. Chazz stopped cold and faced directly toward her. "Always the cruel smile, like clockwork", he began to approach her. "If you did not return? And miss another chance to rub something in my face? Ohhh, I think not." She was so distant to her subjects, but he knew how she felt. He would never push his luck by calling her out; he knew better than that. No matter how much he wanted to spend time with her something always got in the way, a war, challenge, riot, and now this.
He then put his hand on her shoulder and in the most sly tone he began to speak.
"What would I be able to do to you, Lady Akane?"......."Only what you would command of me."
Chazz walked closer to her, speaking his peace. The duo always did like to rub their success in one another’s face. Akane’s boasting had dwindled to a minimum due to her position, while Chazz always had something new to report; and she would always want to hear it.
He placed his hand upon her shoulder, sending chills through her spine. She had not been touched by another human, let alone a man in so long; she almost grew ill at the turmoil her body began to process.
"What would I be able to do to you, Lady Akane?" She swore her heart’s uneven beating could be heard by him now. "Only what you would command of me." His charm went into overdrive, and Akane’s inner turmoil only boiled more, behind her mask of icy stone.
”I command you to remove your hand from its perch, at once.” Her voice was firm and unrevealing. She refused to let him win.

Her wit was just as quick as his, this was no battle, but a duel of the mind. He couldn't help but notice how graceful she was, and her dress was almost bewitching to the eyes. He lifted his hand only slowly almost if to brush her hair over her ear.
Quickly retracting it he smiled and looked directly into her eyes, "if I hadn't what would you have done to me?".
He was playing a dangerous game, she had a fiery temper and he knew the throne room wouldn't be able to handle another one of their spars. Yet, he gambled. "That dress suites you too well Akane, have the years dulled the edge of your sword?",he bore a devilish grin.
She watched him look her over, and she did the same on him. He lifted his hand to, what she thought pull her loose hair behind her ear, but instead just to tease her. She almost wished he had. His allure was entrancing and she always hated it.
"If I hadn't what would you have done to me?"
Nothing. I would have been powerless to stop you from doing anything. Her face remained blank as she thought her real answer, but her eyes only blinked before she locked them with his again. She refused to say anything for fear of giving herself away.
"That dress suites you too well, Akane; have the years dulled the edge of your sword?"[/i] He metaphorically removed his glove and slapped her face with it, and she accepted his challenge.
”You sir, are playing with fire. I’d take back those words if I were you, before I make you eat them.” Her grin grew equally as cruel as his. She turned to face him and when she did so her hair flared out in the sun’s light. She moved closer to him.
”Chazz you only wish that to be true. If my blade ever dulled then maybe you’d have a chance to beat me; but unlikely, no not in the heat of summer. I am the fiery queen of Celosia, just for that reason. Your attempts to rile me up end in vain. Today is not your day, my friend.”
Her pain was finally contained by her mask. She refused to let his allure back her into a corner, and she put her guard back up. Not that it would take much for him to shatter it, but for now she could maybe grasp the upper hand.

This bout of theirs had come to a stalemate neither was giving ground, but the words each had spoken had hit their mark. The twister of emotions filled the room and Chazz grabbed Akane and pulled her close, "Even if we did fight again I would never harm you."
His emotions took over and he leaned in and kissed her cheek.................*The gates to the throne room opened and a lone soldier ran it, panting.*
"My Queen he panted", running up the steps to Akane he knelt and then stood up to salute Chazz. The moment was over and Chazz wished so dearly it was not. "Catch your breathe before you keel over soldier," Chazz commanded as he approached the soldier.
"My Lord, its the Astrapi. They have attacked a caravan moving many precious fossil stones to the capitol." Chazz contemplated the soldiers words, yet this was impossible the Astrapi didn't have the numbers to launch a full assault on an armored caravan like this. "Soldier", his voice boomed through the throne room. "An entire Company of soldiers guarded that caravan, and with the pokemon guardians they were trained with that should not be possible." The soldier looked even more grim. "My lord the precious metals they have been mining in there fortress, they have hired a mercenary army to fight with them. These soldiers my lord are lead by one Illum the Dread." The name as spoke it filled Chazz with rage. He knew he should have killed his old master all those years ago, a mistake he would fix shortly.
”As if you could harm me-“ Akane was stunned into silence before her sentence could fully be spoken. Chazz had leaned in and did he just… kiss me? Or am I imagining it? She locked eyes with him for a moment that felt like forever and before she either would have yelled at him or reciprocated, they were interrupted. She was sure her face was as red as her dress. She could hardly hear the poor soldier over her own thoughts. Her body repeated the bow to the soldier before fading almost completely to herself. Akane snapped back when the tension became so thick she could no longer breathe.
”Chazz, this is not my fight. Perhaps now I should take my leave, or better yet this young soldier should deliver any more news he has and leave before he regrets it.” She gave him a slight bow. The name that seemed to enrage him, she had only heard in passing. Is he perhaps keeping something from me? Would he… hide anything from me? She had all but remembered the moment before the soldier interloped. She wanted nothing more than to hug him and let him ”cry himself out” on her shoulder like they would do for one another in the olden days; but that was no longer an option for the mature woman she had grown into.

"Report to the Generals soldier and leave us at once, and soldier good work,' the soldier was stunned at the praise he received and he bowed and left the throne room. The room went quiet, Chazz knew what he had done. He kissed the queen and if it weren't for the news he had just heard he would have done it again. He looked back to Lady Akane her face was bright red and if it were any other time he would have giggled. Yet, the cold truth was their Illum had returned.
"Akane, Illum the Dread is my master he taught me how to fight. He's one of the deadliest and most cruel warrior ever to set foot in Asemon. I have beaten him before. I am the one who sent him into exile.DAMN!!", Chazz clenched his fist in fury. "I should have ended him that day, Kindness has betrayed me yet again."
Chazz paced back and forth. "Akane I wish I could do something to help you on your journey, but this will require my full attention." His face became calm again and his demeanor cool Chazz spoke in a quiet tone, "And so it begins."
”I understand…” the red color from her face drained with his name, ”Chazz. Do what you feel is right.” Sadness and unnumbmable pain shot down her spine like lightning that touched every branch of every nerve in her body which then began to ache and become weary.
How can he do something like that and just brush it off? Am I that meaningless to him? I understand someone very close to him had betrayed him, but I thought we were close too. Her thoughts only hammered nails of pain into her palms and back. The conflict was taking its toll. When did our meetings become nothing but pain…?
”I still grant you the power as King until I return. Feel free to appoint a substitute for yourself… but my choice…” her breath began to become strained and more breath than vocal, ”is you.” She fell to a knee. ”What do you propose we do for preparations…?” Her determination to walk out with her head held high was fading as the pain began to thunder in her head with each heartbeat; her voice was still strong, winded as it was.

Shocked, a feeling Chazz had never felt before. Akane the fiery queen, had knelt. Chazz quickly picked her up, he knew he had wronged her for too long he had played with her emotions because of his own failing. In the sweetest voice he could give, "Akane you kneel to no one, bow to no one, submit yourself to no one." He hugged her she meant everything to him.
"We live a cruel life, one where we can't choose our heart's desire. We owe our people, our kingdom our strength, for they need it most of all." Chazz's voice became soft, "one day we will get to choose what the heart wants, I promise. I will not die till I see that day."
"Do not worry yourself with Illum, he is my problem," Chazz pulled back and winked.
"Akane you kneel to no one, bow to no one, submit yourself to no one."
A smirk spread across her face.
”Look at that, I even kneel to my body.” Her voice was strained, but the tone was light-hearted. Chazz came over to her and hooking his arms under hers, he lifted her back up. Before he let go, he pulled her to him. Her face flushed to a bright red. She thought she would have been okay after her joke, but now she was not so sure. Her cheeks burned so hot she was sure they might just melt.
Do I…? No. I don’t. This is between friends. She took a sharp inhalation of breath to calm herself down, but it only made it worse. She inhaled Chazz’s scent. He must’ve recently bathed for he didn’t reek of death and frustration; just the purest innocence Akane could expect to emanate from either of them.
She couldn’t even hear what he had whispered in her ear. She just remembered feeling the breath as he pulled away, almost as if it had left a physical residue.
"Do not worry yourself with Illum, he is my problem." Chazz proceeded to wink at her; all she could do was push him farther back and brush herself off.
”Just like you do for me, I will protect you how I can. But for now. Let’s just enjoy the remainder of our time, before the sun sets and our lives are forced to resume.” It had been a long time since the red lady took a break; she wondered how she could motivate herself to continue at tomorrow’s dawn break.

He didn't show it he couldn't, but the days events had left him drained. He hated parades yet the morale boost for which they gave the city was paramount to its happiness. Looking out the sun was making its final decent. A soothing breeze crept from the balcony into the room. Chazz walked to the balcony and leaned against the nearest pillar. The wind flowed through his hair and brought it to life. It flowed in the air like tumbling waves calmly soothing the sea.
He reached down pulled out his dagger and an apple and began carving into it. Surgically removing piece after peace silently devouring each one. After a few pieces he spoke.
"It's quite ironic isn't it?" He laughed then continued speaking. "We both want the other to be safe yet your going on a quest for which you might not return. And I am about to face down a foe from my past who could actually kill me. Now if that isn't irony I don't know what is." He was obviously joking but there was truth in it.
The apple by that time was just a core. He tossed it to the discard pile and looked over the remaining fruit. He used his dagger to stab a strawberry. He held his dagger up so that Akane could see it.
"Well?", he said without looking Akane. "Are you going to join me? This is the last time either of us get to relax for a long while, and you know as well as I there is no one i'd rather spend it with. Here and now we relax." He turned his head toward Akane and winked. "Tomorrow all hell breaks loose." Chazz smiled and then turned back toward the sunset. His thoughts turned of them both leaving, she on her noble quest, and he riding off to war.
”Irony hardly. I find it romantic in the way of it’s quite possible both of us may die on our quests. Then we’ll have plenty of time to relax.” She outwardly begrudgingly took the strawberry, but on the inside she couldn’t have blushed harder. They always were her favorites.
"Tomorrow all hell breaks loose."
She smirked; finishing her strawberry as slowly as possible. The juices reddened her lips even more and lazily rolling down the side of her chin. She quickly held her hand out to Chazz for his handkerchief she had given him many seasons ago and quickly wiped it away. Her relaxed expression darkened as she spoke.
”No. The journey to conquer hell begins.”
