Eira sat within her hut, waiting for her partner Walrein to wake up so they could go about their business for the day. She hated to admit it, but she actually had to interact with people and having Walrein there always helped. She could let Grace and Shimmer sleep a while longer while she and Walrein went out to do their morning work. She sighed as she leaned back against a wall, burrowing deeper into the furs that were surrounding her since she didn't want to leave just yet for the work she had to do.
Publius entered into the living room. He looked around curious where the good queen was, "Queen Eira" he called out, "Where are you?" he waited but there was no response and then he noticed the pile of furs sitting in the floor and noticed that they looked to be breathing. He "I dare not disturb her," he thought. Thats when Galaxy bounced in made a bee line for the furs, Galaxy is probably the rambunctious Mudkip ever. Before Publius could utter the command stop Galaxy leaped onto the pile of furs.
Eira jumped at the sudden force landing on top of her, throwing the blankets off as she sat up to see what had landed on top of her. She knew Walrein wouldn't jump onto her with his sudden size and Shimmer wasn't the playful type, so she assumed it had been the freshly hatched Grace wanting to play. Seeing a little Mudkip sitting amongst the furs that she had thrown off, Eira sat confused for a moment before she looked towards the entry to her home and Publius standing there. She scowled at him, not liking that he let his Pokemon jump on top of her when she had just gotten comfortable again. "What is it Li?"
"Sorry Ma'am" He said staring at the floor. "Galaxy come here" he said quickly. Galaxy jumped back and looked just as happy as ever, like nothing she had done was in any way shape or form inappropriate. "I do apologize for her behavior ma'am. She is still young. I hope this will not have upset you too greatly. As it were I came here to ask you for some advise on training Galaxy? I never got the opportunity to spend any time with Pokemon growing up, so this whole training business is completely new to me."
Eira's mood brightened considerably at learning that the Pokemon that had disturbed her was actually a baby Pokemon. If there was one thing that Eira loved, it was baby Pokemon, especially tiny ones like Mudkip. She removed herself from the furs and straightened herself before addressing Publius with a smile. "I'd be happy to help you now that you have a partner of your own. There really isn't any secret or anything to raising a Pokemon, you just interact with it like you with anyone else. Let's see, I guess the best way to learn is to interact with someone who has had a Pokemon for a while. Let me go get Walrein so you can watch how we are."
"Alright then, Galaxy and I will wait here," he said with a smile on his face. This really made him quite excited, for he had never witnessed any sort of Pokemon-Trainer exhibition. The very idea of himself ever taming that bouncy little Mudkip seemed daunting. In this time thinking about idea of taming Galaxy, Publius had failed to notice Galaxy running after the queen as she set off. Publius managed to grab Galaxy before he was able to get out of reach, "How am I supposed to train something if it cannot stay in one place for longer than a second??" He thought to himself.
Eira quickly moved to her bedroom, where she knew her long time partner was still asleep. She took a moment to survey the room for his whereabouts and couldn't help a warm smile at the sight of Walrein having Grace safely tucked under one of his massive fins, keeping her moderately warm with his abundance of fur and fat. Eira slowly crossed over to him, careful to not wake the rest of her sleeping partners as she passed their various spots around the room, until she was right next to the large blue mass that was her Walrein. She nudged him gently to wake him up, Walrein opening his eyes to pear at her sleepily the second she touched him since he had grown to be quite the light sleeper. She motioned for him to follow her into the other room before she turned and made her way back into the front room where Publius was waiting.
"I'm sorry for the wait," she said with a broad smile that lit up her face as Walrein also came into the room, his mouth opened wide in a giant yawn. "As you are aware, this is my partner, Walrein. We've been together for years now, so I'm sure we can teach you a thing or two about becoming friends with your Pokemon."
Publius was struck by her smile, the way she beamed lit up his entire world. He was not accustomed to smiles let alone them being directed at him. The Walrein both scared and amused Publius, for Walrein was now the largest Pokemon Publius had ever seen and he seemed so happy. Publius also loved watching the momentary interaction between the Queen and her Walrein, it honestly astonished him how a creature such as that could ever be trained. It did however bring a little ease to his thoughts because if something that big could be tamed then this adorable little guy should be no... Galaxy was no longer standing beside him... "Where the hell did he go now?!?!" Publius thought to himself. At that exact moment he looked back to the Queen and noticed Galaxy going full speed at the Walrein... "Oh Shit..."
Walrein hardly noticed the small Pokemon run into him, the small nudge causing him to lean down so he could be eye level with the baby Water type. Most Pokemon would think that he was intimidating, but Walrein was really only trying to smile at the little one with his large teeth gleaming. Walrein gave a bark of a laugh as he reared back to look at his partner, who was silently giggling as well at the Mudkip. "Your Pokemon is simply adorable, Publius. I don't see why you think he is a problem."
Once he realized that Galaxy was not going to die, he felt a wave of relief rush over him. "You see one day he's going to do that to the wrong Pokemon and I may not get him back, so it stresses me out when he just darts off like that. I worry about the little guy. He's like his owner in that sense always heading into conflicts that there is almost no hope of winning or even laying a hit on the other party. Anyway I do apologize for his reckless behaviour. It seems that all he wants to do is jump and play, which would be great if I actually had the energy for that. I feel bad though, like I'm neglecting him, by being so apathetic towards this whole training thing. I want him to have fun, but I need him calm down a little in order for it not to feel so dunting." Publius said in a very long winded monologue fashion...
Eira thought for a moment about what Publius had just told her about training his companion. After a moment, Walrein bumped her side and she let out a small laugh and smile as she began to run her hand over his head. "That's the thing about being with a Pokemon, Publius, you have to learn how to let go and just trust them. Your Mudkip may be young and he may be excitable, but he is also durable and strong in ways you don't even know yet."
She paused to look at him with a knowing smile like she was amused with something. "You can't be too protective of them or they won't grow to be able to protect you."
"Its hard to just let go though" Publius lamented "When I grew up I had to protect myself, because no one would ever come to help no matter how hard I cried for help it was useless. So since then I have made it my goal in life to insure that no one has to endure what I went through. I will protect all of those that I love even if it means sacrificing myself, so long as they are safe, that all that matters to me." Publius hoped that this would be the end of it, but he knew better than that though. Eira was different she actually cared. Ever since Publius had been brought in under her good graces she had shown him nothing but kindness and compassion. For Publius this was a foreign concept to him. No one had ever shown him love or compassion, but since day one Eira had. He was stunned a taken aback by this more than anything he had ever witnessed on his own in the wild. He knew how to react to every scenario that involved attacks against him, but had no fucking clue what to do when someone actually cared. He turned to walk out, but Galaxy thought it best block Publius's exit. It seems he would not be leaving anytime soon.
Eira was unsure of what to say. She had to admit that she could easily turned out as hardened and untrusting as Publius was, if it hadn't been for Walrein being by her side and helping her survive ever since they came to this land. Maybe if he had had Galaxy sooner, then he would have had a companion who could have helped him through the hard times. Maybe even now the little guy could help Publius with his past. Before Eira could react, Walrein moved forward and stole the sole Pokeball off of her belt, rushing towards Publius as if he was going to tackle the man. Instead, Walrein slid right past him and out of the hut, throwing the pokeball ahead of him to release a tiny Mantyke, the newest addition to his Eira's family.
"Walrein! She's too young to be out there!" Eira called desperately, shoving past Publius to go gather the shivering baby Pokemon that was floating in the air in confusion. Walrein seemed to bark angrily at her before he turned to give a mighty roar towards Publius as if challenging the human to a fight.
