”I’m so sick of this…” the now pale woman raised her hands. She felt like something was wrong. She was eighteen! So why did her hands look as worn as a thirty-year old’s? They weren’t always like this… were they? Perhaps yes. Yes I remember now. These hands are my own. I am comfortable in them. yes. The red-haired woman looked down in a puddle. No. who am I kidding. I can’t possibly be eighteen. Ha. I almost let this block get to me again. This maze… there’s no way out. Not without… breaking the barrier… But who did she know who could fuck with minds more than she? Akane saw a face looking her back in the puddle, but for some reason the ripples made the lips mouth something… something familiar. Something she read commonly in someone’s lips. My own.
”Zandrophin!” She cried near childlike. Running quick as she could before the mental block would twist her mind again; she raced back to the building to find Zandrophin. Hopefully, he would have his abra. Shit, it’s clearing up… means I’m about to forget even more again… Flinging out Eni’s pokeball, she summoned the massive creature who began running as soon as she noticed Akane was. The woman ran alongside the charizard before she collected her strength in her legs and launched herself onto the charizard's back for an aerial search for the blonde-haired man.

Zandrophin walked through the halls of the building. He was glad he was finally finished with whatever twisted contest he'd been a part of. Mentus climbed on top of his head and dangled his head down, looking his master in the face.
Well, Sir...what's our next step?
I'm not sure, old friend...I don't know where we are, how we got here, or if we need to be somewhere else. I've never been so.....unfocused....it's disorienting.
The pair walked out of the building and stood out in the rain for a bit. All they saw was darkness and ocean...a very turbulent ocean.
No way we're getting out that way....we wouldn't even know where to start looking....
Sir....I sense something....a Charizard...high above.
I bet I know who that is. Let her know where we are.
Mentus did as he was asked and flew up to the Charizard. A red-haired lady sat upon the creature. Lady Akane? Good to see you. If you would like to follow me, please...I can take you to my Master.
The Abra quickly dove down and headed back to Zandrophin

The sensation was surreal. Evolution dictated humans were bound to the earth, but not pokemon. The wind whipping her hair against her cheeks, the tears from her unprotected eyes leaking in globs of liquid, would make it all seem not worthwhile; however, the muscles rippling and shifting under her thighs, the lack of shackles to the earth, the gentle rocking as the wings flap warmed her heart. She relaxed herself and began playing with a misty figure in the sky.
She was snapped back into reality by an abra that teleported onto Eni with her. Shocked to the point of confusion, Akane let go of the charizard. As if the world froze around her, she watched as Eni zoomed away; just like… she did… Akane closed her eyes. It was just a few weeks ago she left… wasn’t it? Areonwen… Akane was so at peace, her soul was calm, at peace. The sensation of falling only wrapped her like a blanket into submission to death.
Almost as quickly as she left, Eni had already looped back behind to easily catch Akane. Intense pain shot through her groin with the collision, and the red haired woman looked back to the charizard with the abra waiting patiently. A soft groan escaped her lips, but she quickly remembered what she forgot.
”Hello Mentus.” Her voice was very calm, as if she had already forgotten her near death experience. ”Thanks for finding me. I need Zandrophin, where is he now?”
The abra teleported. Zandrophin must've been close by. She gently squeezed her legs and leaned down to lower Eni's position.

Zandrophin watched as his partner led the Charizard down to his location. Mentus floated back down and landed back on Zandrophin's shoulders, curling his tail around his neck. Zandrophin scratched his ears.
Well done, old friend. Now...let's find out what she wants.
Zandrophin bowed showily to Akane, saying,
"Greetings, Lady Akane. Nice of you to join those of us who must crawl along the ground."
The thunder crashed again, and the seas surged.
"Lovely weather we're having today, no? I can only assume you're here to ask me something. So....how can I help you?"
Absentmindedly, he began to spin his gambling chip in one hand, and his knife in the other.
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
”I assure you, my position upon this charizard is earned.”
The duo would have looked insane to anyone else; as the near thunder sounded off, neither of them jumped. In fact, the red-haired woman merely inhaled a short breath to taste the salty air and focus upon her quest before she forgot it again.
”I apologize our meetings recently have only been about business-“ Wait, we do business? I, with such a person? For him to even give me a second glance, I must be important. But am I really on the grand scale? Akane rotated her shoulders to try and shake the intangible feeling from her shoulders.
”But to get right to the point before I forget it again; if you have yet to notice this mental barrier loops your train of thought in the giant maze it has created within our minds.” She didn’t even bother asking him if he had noticed the mental block; he looked as agitated as she was about it. Even more likely, he was one of the few people who probably realized there was even one.
”That’s about as much as I can figure out; the mental block twists our old thoughts into walls that form the maze, and recent thoughts flush our current ones into a constant loop. That would be easy enough to dispel… however, I feel like I am eighteen, but looking at myself,” Akane held up her hands, ”perhaps I am older, which means the “walls” I described are also interfering. This is no normal mental block, friend. This is a psychic pokemon’s doing. Which means we need a psychic pokemon’s undoing.” Giving a sympathetic, yet expecting glance towards the abra, she flicked her eyes back to Zandrophin.
”How is your abra handling the barrier? I assume he has almost fully worked himself out of the maze. I think we need his help if he’s willing. It would require a lot of energy if he were to oblige.”
With a heavy heart, fully knowing she was about to be looped out of remembering again, the image of a much younger Akane running around serving adults was plaguing her thoughts; trying to turn her to violence; a friendly old ghost tapping on her shoulder. Maybe, she hoped, maybe he can tell me something that will bring me back into reality. But then again, am I really so important anymore?

Zandrophin stood there, listening to the woman. This would explain why he couldn't focus.
A barrier? A simple wall? Have we become so weak?So soft that we cannot beat a wall?
Sir, I've been trying to sort that out since we got here. I felt some interference, but nothing more.
Lady Akane asked how Mentus was holding up against the barrier. Zandrophin scratched his friend's head.
"He's doing just fine. As for helping...I think we're all ready to get out of here. We'd be insulted if you chose anyone else to do this job. Whaddya say, old friend...we're trapped in a prison...make us a key from the soap?"
I assume that is a human cultural reference, but I understand the message. Lady Akane, how may we be of assistance?
"Just tell us what we need to do. I, for one, am done with this place."
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
Akane was relieved Zandrophin and his pokemon was as willing as they were.
”Let’s hope for our old selves’ sake, that you don’t drop said soap. For some reason I have so much experience that I don’t remember earning, furthermore in said experience, the path to curing amnesia generally lies in vocal and written therapy that eventually leads to a cascade of memories to return and fill themselves back in. But for this block, it’s simply not enough; I have begun to remember some things. We need more help which is where Mentus’s psychic abilities are necessary.”
She inhaled sharply and tried to relax. Her thoughts were threatening to disappear again. A single tear welled up beside her eye and began to quiver before it gently slid down her cheek.
”I need you to help me remember forgetting Aeronwen, there’s no way I could live with her memory haunting me forever. I can’t find the memory in the great maze. I need Mentus to use psychic to locate it, and calm mind to not forget it. The trick is to keep your mind calm while the memories flood back. If you’re not calm, it will stop the chain reaction and could force you to reject it permanently… Zandrophin… Please…”
White… swirling white. The smoke cleared.
”Hello Zandrophin. How are you? Why are you looking at me so inquisitively?”
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
"Beating amnesia? That's what we're dealing with? Well..." Zandrophin looked up at Mentus again before continuing, "we can give it a shot."
Then Akane was reinstated back into the mental loop.
She's gone, old friend...we're on our own.
As usual, Sir. We have our instructions, though.
Very true. Are you ready to get to work? Do you know what you're looking for?
If my memory holds, as it usually does, this "Aeronwen" is familial to Lady Akane...Knowing that, I can locate the memory without much difficulty.
Zandrophin dropped to his knees and the pair began to meditate.
Remember, old friend...this is a very precise operation. A delicate touch is necessary.
I always leave things better than I find them, Sir.
"Hello Zandrophin. How are you? Why are you looking at me so inquisitively?"
"It's nothing, Highness...just wrapped up in my thoughts...and yours."
Mentus, go.
With this, Mentus quickly, but gently, encased Akane's mind before she could fully process the words, similar to stasis, allowing him to work without any thoughts getting in the way. He sifted through years of thought and memory...searching for this one in particular. He saw war, conquest, suffering, joy, victory, and peace.
Nothing yet about this person, Sir.
Keep looking...she's in there, somewhere...the name wouldn't have been mentioned if it wasn't important.
A few minutes passed, and then Mentus' ears perked up.
Sir...I've got something.
What do you see?
I see...a scarred landscape...fire...death....and two figures. Two women. Wait...one of the women has left; leaving the other alone to her sorrow. Something has taken her place. A Charizard--Sir! It's the Charizard Lady Akane rides on!
So...her sister helped her achieve victory...and then left. I can imagine that this event was rather traumatic, and she wouldn't be able to move on until she forgot about her sister. She wants us to help her remember how she forgot her sister..so she can move on and get past this wall. How did she forget her?
I am unsure, Sir...but it appears that the conquest expanded rapidly after the sister departed...before stopping.
So...she expanded her area of control, which gave her mind time to forget. What was this place called?
Celosia, Sir....the Kingdom of Fire.
Zandrophin looked back at Akane, who still seemed trapped in the mental loop.
Remind her why she forgot...she has to move on.
Mentus took this thought and, using Calm Mind, impressed it on Akane.
Remember how to forget, Highness......remember how to forget...
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
”Highness? I am not royalty silly Mentus. I have no kingdom and I am only eighteen. What could someone so young do to make a kingdom?”
She laughed heartily, but stopped quickly when Mentus pressed even deeper into her mind, the thought of Aeronwen leaving.
”Why are you doing this Mentus? Why do you keep pressing this one image into my head? Stop! I command you to stop!” Wait…
The image of swirling fire, burning fields, and a single man lying broken beneath her blade seared the curtain behind her eyes. A wicked grin and an air of brutality awoke inner lying ambition in Akane’s body.
I want to be her. I want to conquer. I must reform and fix my new home; my sanctuary.
Again the images rolled on. Next was an image of the same woman killing many more people whom she deemed not worthy. Akane agreed with her decisions based on facts she knew not where they came from. More images, more memories, more pain.
”Mentus why are you sending me an image of Zandrophin bowing to me? I already told you I’m not royalty.”
Finally, the red-haired woman crumpled. Her heart ached when she had the pleasure of meeting the man that saved her life and later saved it many more times; Chazz Michealmicheals. Whom the memories revealed to later become the captain of the royal guard; Her royal guard.
As if a glass wall had been shattered the images broke apart and flew away in the now swirling vortex of her mind. She began to kick and scream and cry out to names she couldn’t be bothered to stop. The images the abra pressed began turning into softer, gentler memories she still wasn’t sure if they were hers. Akane shivered and shook but finally opened her no longer glassy eyes and awoke once again as the Red Lady she had so well established.
”Zandrophin? How long has it been?”
Still a little shocked she knew immediately what she must do; break Zandrophin’s mental block. Though he hadn’t been there as long as she had; seriously how long has it been? he was still vulnerable to complete rejection just as much as she was.
The queen looked upon her hands with great sorrow. The aeration of her memories left Aeronwen’s uprooted and shallow. Trying her best to not be distracted, she focused on the matter at hand. True, their current method was a slow one, but it was the only one they had.
”Zandrophin, report. Mentus please prepare for another round to help along Zandrophin. Also…” She pulled out a spoon she had carved from the isle’s rocks. ”Thanks.”
Her determination was fiercer now more than ever.

Mentus floated up and took the stone spoon in his tail. It wasn't like his silver one back home...but the gesture was still appreciated. Zandrophin stood as he was addressed, before bowing.
"Pleasure to have you back, Highness. Now...if you will give me a few minutes...I'm sure we can answer all of your questions."
Alright, old friend...make another key for my cell.
With pleasure, Sir.
The pair sank into meditation again, their purple auras glowing brighter as their minds linked. Zandrophin saw everything; meeting Mentus, his father's aggression...everything. The next image he saw was fuzzy...but he pursued it, anyway.
Fire...screaming...leveled buildings....Mentus...where are we?
You will know soon enough, Sir....look over there.
Where Mentus gestured, a broken sign stood. It was half of a welcome sign. It read: Welc T Petal
The sign dissipated and the Psychic eye came into view..as well as an image of Zandrophin's necklace. The letters SCPC burned brightly and consumed his vision. He saw a tall, dark man standing on an overlook, his hand on a younger man's shoulder. The man spoke,
"Well done.....Son."
Zandrophin snapped back to reality suddenly. His eyes were wide and slight terror was on his face, but only for a short time before he regained his composure.
"As for my report, Highness...to the best of my knowledge...we've been on this island for only a few days....but that's still to long, in my book. Getting everyone else out of here needs to be priority one....but we also need to figure out how to get home. We await your instructions."

I AM A GOD. YOU CANNOT DESTROY MY WILL. MY IMMENSE POWER CANNOT BE TOUCHED. I AM. LUGIA, UNQUESTIONED KING OF THE SEA.
A thunderous roar broke out from her lips. That red haired human had finally interfered enough with her plans.
”How did you do it?!” The roar was mighty and shook the ground as it spoke, even though the creature was telepathic. ”How could such low-lives like your species break through my barrier?! Oh well. It matters not.”
It was only a few moments before an ear-splitting screech pierced the sky and the storms raged on.
”I AM YOUR GOD NOW.” A powerful pressure wash from a hydro pump was aimed at Akane and Zandrophin. Angrily she roared when she saw a Bastiodon protecting the huddled up trio. ”I REFUSE TO JUST BE THE KING OF THE SEA ANYMORE. I WANT THE LAND AND SEA!”
Another wave of psychic was emitted from the mouth of Lugia. She was going to put an even stronger block on the trio.
Simultaniously releasing Doom and Silas, the awoken queen finally took a stand.
”Doom use shadow ball, disperse the wave! Silas use discharge, keep Lugia busy!”
The fiery dog released several shadow balls which shattered the wave. Akane watched as Doom recoiled from something… something was bugging him, but Silas kept on.
”Doom, what’s wrong?”
Doom shook his wrung his body out like he was trying to shed and remember something; kind of like how she felt when she… was the barrier lifted from everyone? quickly she whirred around and looked to Zandrophin.
”Zandrophin, take this electric gem. It will summon a rowdy pokemon I am sure you will have no trouble domesticating. Good luck.”
Running, Akane returned Silas and Doom and tucking them she released Eni to fly and find Eira. After the duo stabilized in the air and got a sizable distance from Lugia and Zandrophin, Akane raised the fiery gem and called out for the feng huang she had tamed several weeks prior.

Lugia came out of the water suddenly. Admittedly, Zandrophin was taken aback in shock.
So much power, Sir....it's humbling.
Don't get caught up in it, old friend. I need you to focus. I can only assume that whatever was keeping us here no longer holds power over us, because I only want to escape now.
Of course, Sir. Whatever you need.
Akane handed Zandrophin the gem. The golden gem glowed slightly in his hand.As Akane left, Zandrophin looked at Mentus.
What do you make of this?
A small grin appeared on Mentus' face and his tail swished excitedly.
Oh, Sir...I can assure you...you will be quite pleased. We must call it, first.
Well, then...let's get started. But first...a bit of cover from our surprise guest.
Zandrophin knew enough about summonings that he instantly had a plan. Squirt, Rose, and Dolos appeared.
"I need you all to keep that thing occupied. Mentus and I need some time to unlock the stone. I trust you all enough to do your jobs. Go."
The three Pokemon split up and went about keeping Lugia busy. Zandrophin knelt down and placed the gem on the ground as a slight grin spread across his face.
What do you say, old friend....think we can take on a god?
If it bleeds, Sir....
The pair began to meditate...attempting to contact the Pokemon whose energy was encased inside of the gem. Lightning began to crash and thunder rolled as their meditation progressed.
