Zandrophin and Mentus were in the middle of training when both were suddenly assaulted by a wave of energy. They both shook it off rather quickly, but it was still unsettling.
"Cripes, old friend...were you able to gather the source of that energy wave?"
I've got a good idea of where to start, Sir...but we'll need some help. It's up in the northern regions somewhere.
"I see...perhaps Akane would know more about it....get set to leave."
In no time at all, both were prepared to leave. Zandrophin wore a black traveling cloak to keep the dust and ash off of his clothing.
"Mr. Lox, we must depart for a time. We'll return as soon as we can."
"There's no rush, Boss...it's been rather quiet here...enjoy your trip."
Zandrophin and Mentus dropped out of their Teleport just outside the steps of the castle. Two guards approached him, weapons leveled, but an ominous purple glow from Mentus' eyes made them rethink that decision. Zandrophin dashed up the stairs and, not willing to wait any longer, blew the door open with a wave of psychic energy as he walked into the main hall.
"Highness, there's something I must discuss with you! Mentus and I have sensed something stirring up north...figured you should be made aware of it."

The red queen was caught wandering the castle mid-daydream. She felt herself missing her recently late pokemon, Bastille. Because of her sadness she adorned an unusually alternate colored dress; a beautiful but simplistic and solid black gown with a short train. Her crown today was a simple black circlet that swopped around her features and featured gorgeous black opals.
The Red Lady never cried, and today was no exception. However sadness wasn’t what the unsuspecting guard came across, only a blank thousand mile stare worn by their queen as she alone fought her own thoughts. The guard, knowing the eggshells he’d need to cross over to speak with the queen, and choose wisely.
“Your Highness, there is a man here. Blonde, with abra.”
All her negativity almost vanished instantly; she enjoyed her visits with Zandrophin and knew it had to be none other than him. ”How could you of all my guards not remember Sir Zandrophin? Go forth and announce my presence to him. I will meet him in the grand entrance room. Then prepare some tea, thanks.” As the guard rushed off, she calmed herself and knew she had to bury all her negativity in the presence of the psychic pokemon. She was happy to see them, but she knew with no previous announcement it meant something bad was happening.
Elegantly placing one foot before the other, the queen watched as her feet carried her to the main banister that bled into two opposing staircases that joined the main entry room with the second floor where she perched. Her heels gently tapping on the marbled floor before she chose her usual mark between the two grand-staircases to wait for him to meet her.
Though she was very irritated when the loud boom she heard earlier happened to be her imported mahogany and jewel encrusted door with exquisite houndoom carvings. ”Zandrophin… my door… could Mentus please…”
"Highness, there's something I must discuss with you! Mentus and I have sensed something stirring up north...figured you should be made aware of it."
”But Zandrophin… My… Door…” Sorry for the bad post... trying to get stuffs done lol
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
Zandrophin opened his mouth to say something, then turned back to look at the door. He did multiple back-and-forths between Akane and the door, a look of exacerbation on his face, then waved his hands to dismiss it.
"I...we...up....Look, forget about the door...I'll pay for a new one. Listen...Mentus and I were assaulted today by a massive energy spike. We tried to lock down a location, but due to its speed and raw power, we only got a whisper trace....and it's not somewhere we enjoy thinking about. We figured it was somewhere up north...somewhere with a heavy presence of Ghost-type energy."
He paused,
"We caught wind of it a while ago, but the power felt so dormant, we didn't feel any need to keep tabs on it. This indirect attack has made us change our minds about the situation. There's something happening there...and what it is isn't exactly clear. We were hoping you might've heard something similar to this."
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
”Ghost-type energy.” So it’s as I imagined it would be with only one person handling it… it is getting worse. She wasn’t surprised and her blank expression could not have revealed anything to the man, but the red-haired queen couldn’t feel much passed the shallow irritation of her exquisite door being beaten down. After briefly mulling over his words, she was, for once, without a plan. A dry patch in the back of her throat signaled her thirst; hopefully her tea was ready by now.
Calmly, she continued, ”Zandrophin, you’re in such a rush. Are you alright? Did the assault on your senses leave you or Mentus impaired at all?” she realized her tone might be taken in a condescending way, ” No insults intended.”
She leisurely walked alongside her companion to one of the many castle courtyards. There, three castle-servants pulled out three chairs-one for the royal queen and the others for Zandrophin and his partner. After pushing in their chairs and another servant bringing them their imported jasmine tea, Akane waved her hand to shoo them away and leave them in peace.
Sighing, Akane begrudgingly continued, ”Zandrophin…” she sipped her steaming tea, ”One cannot simply just buy another one of those doors. Especially since the one who carved it, is dead.” She began gently blowing the steam off of her tea. Her complete ease with the situation was likely due to her mental exhaustion. She did however; imagine she would need to alert Zandrophin of everything she knew and ask him for his help.
Zandrophin sat down and graciously accepted the tea he was offered. He pulled the small vial out of his pocket and added it to his and Mentus' drink. He was still shaken up, but he did well to hide it.
"The attack we suffered today was not a normal one. Mentus and I get hit by energy waves all the time: it's our burden to bear, in repayment for our abilities. As such, my domain is dampened against such attacks...and that's usually enough..."
His voice trailed off as he rubbed his head,
"Not this time...."
He stared into the cup for a while before continuing.
"I have reason to believe that wave of energy was meant only for us. I have reason to believe that someone or something tried to have us killed by overwhelming our minds."
Another pause.
"Of all the attempts on my life, this was one I was unable to stop...and my dampening measures are the only reason we are able to sit before you now, even through the immense pain we're still suffering. Something is there, and it deems us threatening enough to try and end us. No offense, Highness...but your decor is of little value to me compared to my life."
The frustration and venom in Zandrophin's words alarmed Mentus. He quickly tried to nullify the situation by using Calm Mind on his master. Zandrophin knew what was happening, but allowed it to proceed, anyway...he knew he needed to relax.
"Apologies....now...have you any information for us?"
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
Akane’s interest was somewhat piqued by what was in the tiny vial, but she couldn’t be bothered beyond flicking her eyes to it and back. She was impressed by how quickly he calmed down, or seemed to calm, such an attack, she imagined, would incapacitate a psychic type. Ghost types were strong against them, and she expected it to show more, but only got his word on the matter.
”Zandrophin, the door was a precious gift. As is your life. And I have lost one, and almost the other. If you think I’m not furious, I’ve misjudged you completely as one able to properly read others; or perhaps, underestimated my skill at masking my emotions, especially in my exhausted state of existence. Either way, it matters not. I have what you are searching for, your visit is not a waste of time.”
She daintily sipped upon her tea. She could almost feel his negative emotions pressing against her, forcing her into compressing and expanding her ribcage as she actively began forcing herself to breathe with the façade of calmness.
”But I must make sure you are properly prepared for such grave information. The anger in your voice tells me you may not be ready for such a burden; anger being an emotion I’ve not seen your skills at controlling, though I assume they are just as good as any other emotion… Please, finish your tea and relax before I relay any information.”
She finished her own cup, and ordered her newest servant, Melainie, to take the ruby and gold cup and refill it. Next she ordered someone to fetch Mentus a platinum spoon to assess his health; for it he could bend that with hardly any trouble, he was fine-at least for the time being. The woman dressed in black began to show signs of life and emotions of frustration with the situation.
"Sanity is only an idea made real, to make those who are boring feel better." -Akane
After a few minutes, Zandrophin fininshed his second cup of tea. As he added a few more drops of the liquid in the vial, he said to Mentus,
"Old friend...would you mind fetching a few more of these? You know where they are...and it looks like we may need them."
Mentus did as he was told, and returned shortly with a small velvet bag. Zandrophin took the bag and thanked his friend. He then closed his eyes to meditate and center himself. After a few minutes, he opened his mouth and exhaled deeply.
"Alright...I believe I'm calm again. Understand...one thing I cannot abide is when someone tries to harm me, yet hides away like a coward. The thought of being done in by some unseen force frightened and angered me...and I let my anger slip."
Mentus took the spoon he was offered. He looked at it...then placed it back down on the table.
"I'm sorry, Sir...."
"It's alright, old friend."
He returned his attention to Akane,
"I'm well enough now, but he needs rest. Is there anywhere he can go while we discuss?"
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
The queen waited patiently for Mentus to fetch the small parcel, silently sipping more tea and relaxing her tired lids. Half an hour seemed to have passed in silence between the two, and by now, even with his verbal reassurance, Akane felt that he may still not be fully prepared. When Mentus returned, her eyes groggily opened. Though it was in calm discussion, Zandrophin’s accusations only reinforced her concerns. Hoping to calm him down, she stated, ”I was right; your emotional state is still shaken and agitated. However, to help calm yourself, know that the attack on you and your pokemon, was not personal.”
She held the tea cup to her recently glossed lips and inhaled the herbal scent and flooded her sinuses with the sensation of cleansing. ”Melaine! Take Mentus to the nearby guest wing. I feel our nursery while far away, also cannot help him as much as a comfortable bed.” Nodding, she gestured for Mentus to follow her. ”And don’t forget his spoon. Haha, Zandrophin, you should see the collection I have going for him around the castle.” She chuckled like the older woman she was starting to feel like she was morphing into.
”Your anger is forgiven, otherwise I would be hyper hypocritical. Remember our bout with Lugia? Now. As I stated before, it was not a personal attack, you just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As for the culprit… He is not cowardly. He is… well… to put it simply, stuck.” She sipped from her cup and waited for his reaction, while also carefully deciding how to lead into such an elaborate and unclear issue. She waited for him to calm down, and either nudge her to continue or ask questions she may not have already thought of.
Zandrophin watched as his friend was lead away. He tried not to let the look of concern cross his face, but his words gave him away.
"I worry about him...I really do. He hasn't taken a hit like that since...."
What Akane said brought him out of his musing,
"What do you mean it wasn't personal? How far did this wave reach?"
Then one word started the wheels turning in his head: Stuck.
He stood up and began to pace, rubbing his chin and occasionally gesturing with his hands.
"Wait...so a creature powerful enough to send out a wave that powerful, over such a great distance, is trapped somewhere? But...one cannot trap a ghost by conventional means..."
Zandrophin had a thought,
"It's been sealed away somehow...and it wants to get out...Am I on the right track?"
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
Akane shifted in her chair, any amount of movement to help circulate the blood and keep her awake. She too watched her people take Mentus to the guest wing for rest, she really wanted to send Zandrophin there too-he looked like he needed rest just as much as she did. But she worried that another attack might come. Torn, she decided Zandrophin needed the information and that the risk outweighed the gain of such a powerful ally knowing the facts. She began sipping yet another cup of tea.
”I wish I could reassure on what you’d like to hear. I wish I could tell you both that you will be fine. But… I’d very well be lying.” She sighed and leaned back against her chair, her head heavy with remorse and fatigue.
"What do you mean it wasn't personal? How far did this wave reach?"
”I mean you are not the only case. I am both sorrowful and grateful you are here today. Sorrowful, because it means you very well could die before this thing reveals itself, but grateful because I now have a clear idea of who might be behind these attacks.” yet another yawn she covered with her hand. ”Curse our frail bodies! As I stated, you are not the only case. I too have been attacked. Unlike you though, I am not sensitive during the day to them, instead I was preyed upon in my subconscious. My original thought was Darkrai, master of nightmares, but your attack was during the day, correct? Darkrai has no real power like this during the day. Which leads me… Oh, thank you darling.” Akane traded out her empty cup for a filled one. ’Geeze. My 6th cup within the last two hours. If I keep this up, there’ll be nothing left of me.’
"Wait...so a creature powerful enough to send out a wave that powerful, over such a great distance, is trapped somewhere? But...one cannot trap a ghost by conventional means...”
Akane loved Zandrophin, she never had to explain every aspect of anything to him, and his intuition covered the rest. So easy talking with him, so relaxing. so… calming… The red-headed queen’s head rag-dolled from her shoulders and her body limp and hunched forward, but as it did so, the creeping silhouette with red eyes and a golden crown standing mockingly over Bastille’s body, roared at her, forcing her to instantly awaken. She gasped and her eyes swung open. Her body relaxed shortly afterwards, but she didn’t even bother with ladylike positions anymore, she melted into her chair.
”I sincerely apologize. As you can see, I haven’t been able to rest in several days. I think it’s because it knows me after a brief encounter I had… and it’s certainly ill-boding now that it can attack conscious people, many other psychic sensitives will soon begin falling prey to it now. And soon, even non-psychic sensitives will fall too…” it really sunk in, just how powerful these legendary pokemon are.
”It's been sealed away somehow...and it wants to get out...Am I on the right track?"
”Zandrophin. Have you ever been to the Sinnoh Region? On the mainland?”

Zandrophin seemed to ignore the mention of his possible death and reached into his velvet bag, removing another vial of liquid. He slid the small vial across the table, it's purple liquid being shaken slightly from the motion, as he continued to wander around the table.
"I don't have to be a doctor to determine that you've not been sleeping...and, judging by the fact that you were set upon at a subconscious level, both of us know that sleeping is the last thing you want to do, as a matter of personal safety. Add a bit of this to your tea, if you wish. This mixture will awaken both your body and your mind, regardless if either doesn't want to be awake."
He paused before continuing,
"The other effect it showcases is the ability to convince your mind that staying awake is nothing to be worried about: a panic suppressant, if you will. Usually, the mind and body will conflict when too much time without sleeping has passed. This little formula keeps everything calm and collected, thus allowing you to still function normally without any fatigue."
Another pause.
"This is different from my usual formula, but it is still, nonetheless, safe for consumption. I use this when working on particularly difficult...errands...when sleeping is a luxury I don't have time for. Keep in mind, if you choose to try it, please only use a few drops, as it is very potent. If you would rather not try it, you may return it to me or keep it for a later use."
At the mention of Sinnoh, Zandrophin returned to his chair casually, sat down, and leaned back before speaking,
"I've been out that way a few times. Volatile place, Sinnoh...large energy concentrations. I'm rather partial to Solaceon, actually...the Unknown that inhabit those ruins are rather friendly to one that can speak to them. But then again, Sinnoh can be a dangerous place for Mentus and I...many old ghosts and powerful creatures still reside in that place..."
He leaned forward, placing an elbow on the table and resting his chin in his hand, a slight smirk on his face.
"Shall I pack my toothbrush, Highness?"
Do not fight for a cause or for what you believe in: Fight for yourself, because who you are rarely changes. Zandrophin
”Thank you, Zandrophin. But as you can see I am too exhausted to panic. But I must try it, as you witnessed, apparently I can’t even sleep for a moment lest I be attacked again.” She put but a few drops in her tea, but greedily drank the soothing liquid, her withering body begging for release.
Once her energy seemed to be replenished to a tolerable level, her back aches, heavy lids, sore joints, and even her lungs began to function at a normal level. Even the severity of the situation began to sink in, but as briefly as it did, her mind was strangely at ease. A thought entered her mind, ’does this relaxation make it easier for Mentus to know my thoughts? Is that why he has it?’
”Wow. I would ask what the hell you put in this, but I realize to whom I am speaking and to which I really don’t think I want to know.” she set the near-empty cup down with a gentle tap against the heavy wooden table. ”Even without Mentus here, were you possibly able to see my dream?” ’Perhaps since I have an idea of who it is, it morphed into… my idea… I hope I am not putting my assumptions in the way.’ She consciously unfurrowed her brow to hide her emotions from Zandrophin.
"I've been out that way a few times. Volatile place, Sinnoh...large energy concentrations. I'm rather partial to Solaceon, actually...the Unknown that inhabit those ruins are rather friendly to one that can speak to them. But then again, Sinnoh can be a dangerous place for Mentus and I...many old ghosts and powerful creatures still reside in that place... Shall I pack my toothbrush, Highness?"
”Yes, Sinnoh is perfectly well known for its massive energies and ghost-type pokemon. Have you heard any legends from there? There are so many legendary pokemon stories originating from there, hard to tell if any of them are true. Surely that many powerful pokemon couldn’t all be from one place, especially the rumors of the space-time pokemon and the ancient colossus, are both from there. But then again, it could all be true, right? If the god pokemon came from there.” having felt more alive than she had in a week, Akane was a little nervous about the last bit of her tea, but refusing to just pour it out, consumed the last of it. Hard to believe she felt almost normal again.
”I’ve even heard there are two separate pokemon that make up the space-time continuum pokemon. But that pokemon doesn’t concern us as of now… There is one rumor however, I only heard once-in passing through Celestic Town. One that sticks out. Have you heard about the pokemon Arceus himself created after the time-space pokemon, yet before the Collosus and the lake spirits? No one seems to. Because apparently… No no my dear, I’m feeling better please don’t refill my tea right now. However, do keep tending to Zandrophin and fetch news of the abra-make sure he’s actually resting. I’m sure Zandrophin is worried sick.”
”My apologies again. I had been drinking many tea cups. But where was I? Oh yes. No I am not sending you to Mainland Sinnoh. That would be silly, because I have reason to believe it’s already here.” She waited for any interruptions that might occur before she relayed the grave information. ”A while back, at one of the balls I hosted, that Maya priestess who hides away in the Northern Territory; I have reason to believe that she may have a way, an infectious item that allows her to commune with the beast-the third monster Arceus, god of all pokemon, created. Do you know of it? Again, not many do because it wasn’t on this earth for very long.” She inhaled deeply, and began to whisper and speak quicker because the woman she had sent to inform them of Mentus’ condition, was returning,
”I have reason to believe, Giratina, master of antimatter, is behind these attacks. Such a massive Ghost type pokemon with the prowess of a dragon type, could emit waves so powerful they could reach us even all the way on this side of the region, while simultaneously crossing the time space parallel Arceus is said to have sealed him in.” She leaned back and greeted the woman, whispering a brief something in her ear.
”Thank you my dear, please tell about Mentus.” She smiled sweetly, waiting for her to finish and leave. (have her report as you’d like zan) As she did so, Akane got in a few more words before hearing another viewpoint on the subject.
”I also can imagine, if a creature of that magnitude existed, Mentus would always be able to feel its presence, just based off of the raw dark energy it contains, even on the Mainland. Why then, does he not? Because it’s not here! At first I thought it was crazy, but after that brief incident with a Sinnohian lake spirit and the recent learning of an entire religion here based upon the rumored Sinnoh born Darkrai and Cresselia, it would not surprise me in the slightest if another Sinnoh born pokemon found itself here. What are your thoughts on my theory? Any questions?”

Zandrophin smirked and responded, jokingly,
"Have I heard any of the legends, Highness? You mustn't forget, I run this region's port city--sailors have their ghost stories."
As Akane continued speaking, Zandrophin nodded as she rattled off all of the tales he'd heard himself: the lake spirits, the beings which harnessed time and space, and the colossus. All of these he had heard of and, in the case of the lake spirits, even felt their presence.
The servant who'd been serving them returned yet again. Akane waved off the idea of more tea, and Zandrophin politely did the same. Then Akane sent the servant off to gather news of Mentus' condition...and mentioned Maya. Zandrophin leaned forward again, placing his fingertips together and intensely staring at his hands.
Interesting...I wouldn't have expected someone who seems so timid to be connected to something so powerful...but what IS it? I can only think of one creature, but it was all just stories from dusty record books...but I can tell Akane has a theory...may as well hear her out.
And then Akane whispered the name: Giratina. Zandrophin shifted his arms out of Akane's view and and he felt the cool touch of his knife slide into his hand. He gripped it tightly as the servant gave her report.
"Sir, your Abra did not rest long. It seemed only like half an hour of downtime before he was up and about again, I think he may still be distressed."
Zandrophin chuckled and responded,
"That's normal...he hates sleeping. He usually just meditates, so he's still somewhat conscious. Thank you, anyway."
When the woman left, there was a small bit of silence. Then, Zandrophin's demeanor shifted again. His face grew dark and his expression soured. In a flash, he threw the knife straight up. The weapon whined as it ascended, stalled, and began again on it's decent. Zandrophin leaned his head back and exposed his neck to the blade. All that could be perceived by normal human senses was the threatening whistle of the weapon, followed by a rhythmic pulsing. The knife was caught, mid-air, within a small purple aura, only a few inches from Zandrophin's neck. Sitting upon the hilt of the immobile weapon was Mentus.
'Really, Sir...we've caused enough of a ruckus, don't you think?'
Zandrophin took the knife back, without even looking at his partner.
"I needed to get you out here. Wanted to make sure your senses were still sharp. Besides...a new theory on our attacker's identity has come to light...."
...Giratina.
Mentus squeaked and dove into the floral centerpiece on the table, comically shaking the entire ensemble. He popped his head out and said,
'Sir, it can't be! That...that abomination hasn't been in this world in centuries. It MUST be something else.'
"Think about it, old friend....it makes sense...even though we don't want it to. C'mon...whaddya say...wanna help me get back at the bastard that tried to rub us out from across the continent?"
Mentus nodded and emerged from the centerpiece, returning to his master's side. Zandrophin looked back at Akane, his showman's smile on his face.
"We've only got one question, Highness: What's our first move?"
