"And I can only ask, whose fault it might be that, that is the case." Mariko commented back as she finished applying the bruise salve to Zandrophin. As she said this, Jazz returned with the back brace materials. Moving to take off her gloves Mariko turned her attention away from Zandrophin briefly to point to where she wished Jazz to place the materials so she could measure out what she would need for her new task. "Now, the brace I am going to have you in will be adjustable so that you can set it to your comfort level, but at the same time make sure that you don't upset the vertebra. My warning is that you don't do anything that will cause strain even when your ribs heal so that your vertebra has the same chance to heal." She said as she threw away the gloves she had had on and moved to the material.
With swiftness and precision, she began cutting the materials, having already taken a guesstimation of how much she would need. Soon enough, she had finished the brace and held it up level with where it would fall on Zandrophin to do a quick eye-based check on whether it was correct or not. Seeing that it looked fine, she moved over to Zandrophin and held it out. "I'm going to need for you to stand so I can put this on." She said simply.

Zandrophin chuckled softly before replying,
"So...it's not an immobile metal rod limiting my mobility...but and adjustablemetal rod limiting my mobility..."
He paused and sighed, then continued,
"Well...that makes me feel muchbetter."
Once again, Zandrophin was impressed with the doctor's skill at what she did. Unlike a tailor or other outfitter that needed to take precise measurements to get the proper amount of materials, Mariko seemed able to just eyeball all of her calculations.
No doubt that has served her well in this fast-paced environment...the ability to mentally size up every challenge is very useful.
Indeed, Sir...and it seems she sized this one very well.
Returning his attention to Mariko, Zandrophin commented with a slight smirk,
"So...let me guess...like your stethoscope...this brace was kept on ice as well, yes?"

Zandrophin's comment made a small smile come to Mariko's lips once more. "Not this one, though I'm sure I can arrange it if you would like." She said simply before moving to place the brace on the other. She did this quickly and moved back to check how well it worked. Seeing that everything was as it should be, she nodded and moved to continue her counseling.
"Now, as I said before, I'll need you to come in every two weeks for me to check the progress of the vertebrae. You will need to place ice on it once in a while and then trade the ice out for a heat pack. This should make the pain lessen. I am also going to be sending you home with a pain medicine that only needs to be taken when the pain is too much." Here she paused to look over at Celeste, who had just come back from her turn of desk duty. "Ah, Celeste, perfect timing. Would you be a dear and grab me the new batch of pain medicine I made today?" She asked after she had taken the clipboard from her. Celeste gave a chirp of agreement and left to do what was asked of her while Mariko looked over the new patient information she had been given. Looking back to Zandrophin, she gave the man another smile. "As soon as Celeste returns, you should be able to leave. Everything has been taken care of correct?" She said, only asking the last part to see if the other was hiding anything else from her.

Zandrophin reflexively tensed up when the brace was applied, but it was not needed. As promised, the brace did offer some give and flexibility. He rolled his shoulders and felt the device shift up and down in response. At the mention of scheduling, Zandrophin began to lay out his mental calendar, still taking every opportunity to make light of the situation.
"Every two weeks? Not as often as I was expecting, but understandable. After all, we wouldn't want the psychic man who lives alone in his tower coming in too often and scaring away the clientele, would we?"
He paused and thought for a moment before responding to her question.
"I believe that is all there is to do. Any other instructions?"

“No. That’s all that you need to know.” Mariko stated, while motioning silently to her Pokemon about what needed to be cleaned up. “As long as you come to your check-ups, and not stress your back, you should be able to heal.” She stopped her movements then to give the man a hard glare. “And I do stress the not stressing your back comment.” She then gave Mentus a meaningful look.
She then looked between Squirt and Ruta. “Remember to bring Ruta back in about 12 weeks so that I can remove her cast. And if Squirt’s shell starts to give him trouble again, though it shouldn’t now, bring him back as well, though I would like to see him at the same time that Ruta is brought in so that I can check on his recovery anyways.” She said then giving the Pokemon soft smiles. “I wish you both the best of recoveries. I hope that I have been able to help.”
Zandrophin extended a hand and Mentus placed his collapsible staff in his hand. With a quick spin, Zandrophin extended the pole and pulled a small curved piece from his pocket. He screwed the attachment on, and lightly tapped the staff against the floor.
"It's funny," he said, looking at the device, "I used this for personal security to injure assailants...and now it's more of a tool to prevent further injury to myself. How quickly things change."
He looked at his two co-patients. They nodded back.
"I'll be here every 2 weeks...and I'll bring them in every 12, as ordered, Miss Yamada."
He moved to bow, as was his custom...before recalling the brace currently latched to him. He sighed with a slight smile and just tilted his head, instead. Ruta, Squirt, Rose, and Mentus followed suit.
"We thank you for your assistance, and wish you luck in your future endeavors. If you require anything, as a valued partner of the CTC, feel free to contact us. Good day."
Zandrophin made his way out of the clinic with his entourage following close behind. The next day, Zandrophin was in his office, balancing accounts. He was placing money in a velvet pouch and when he'd finished, he called Mentus in.
"Take this to the clinic. Miss Yamada has earned it."
Mentus picked up the pouch in his tail and was surprised.
Sir, this is easily 3000 poke! Why such a sum?
"She helped us in a time of great need...she's earned it. Besides...those visits have to cost someone sometime...let's just pay ahead."
Very well, Sir...I'll go now.
In a few moments, Mentus appeared in the lobby of the clinic. He placed the pouch on the desk, rang the bell, and teleported out again. Attached to the bundle was an official memo from the CTC office: TO: YAMADA, MARIKO FROM: ZANDROPHIN SUBJECT: GRATITUDE
Miss Yamada,
I wanted to thank you again for your assistance. My team and I owe you quite a lot, and I hope this small donation will help towards that deficit. You do fabulous work and we hope to see much more from you as time goes on. I offer you this, in addition to the sum enclosed in this parcel: if our R&D department comes up with anything that may be used for medicinal purposes, be it technological, chemical or biological in nature, I will be sure to send the proposals your way for approval. If you believe you could use whatever my people come up with, it's yours to use, no charge.
There is one more thing I wished to discuss. There have been whispers across the continent related to something brewing up north. I have people looking into it, but there's nothing concrete yet. Now, I do not wish to alarm you, but I am concerned that whatever is going on up there may make it's way here. Rest assured, I have no intention of letting anything disturb my operation, or the operations of my trade partners, in this area. You may notice heightened security around Pyron City over the next few weeks...and your clinic is going to be a location of concern, being the only medical facility in the city. My security forces know you to be a business partner of mine and will follow your directives: if you feel that their services are not required, you may ask them to leave...however, I don't know if I would recommend that. Still the decision is yours.
Thank you again for all of your help. Good luck and keep up the good work.
Respectfully,
Zandrophin CEO, CTC Pyron City, Ignacia
