Melota watched from the front porch of her small home as the morning sun began to peak over the horizon, signalling the start of a new day of work to be done. She sipped on some tea that she had purchased a while ago from Prasha while she was still trying to advertise in Celosia, the brew perking her up as she prepared a mental list of all of the things she had to do that day. While she didn't have many customers, she still had to make sure everything was in peek condition for whenever someone decided to hire her on to breed their Pokemon for them. It was hard to breed Pokemon for people, especially since she only had Pup and Flower at the moment, but raising the eggs and seeing people's satisfied expression whenever they saw their new baby always made things worth it.
Man, this place is really far out of the way… she though furrowing her brow and scrunching her lips. Alruna was told to go to some ranch in the middle of this frozen nowhere land in the middle of nowhere! But, she couldn’t wait to get there-after all; she had just used a chunk of her inheritance money to purchase a new baby to aid her in her journey. A grass type, perfect to compliment her two precious baby eevees which were running circles around the much slower moving girl, nipping her heels and each other as they went.
Corina, her non shiny eevee, quickly sped out in front, nearly disappearing in the light haze of mid-morning fog. Alruna hollered after her to return, but realized it was in good will. Corina continued speeding towards the ranch, forcing Alruna to pick up the pace.
” Corina! Come back here! Don’t trouble the poor man!” She panted after the rambunctious eevee. Finally, upon arriving, she leaned back and huffed but opening her eyes, she realized she had been wrong. ”Oh hello there Mrs.-?”
Alruna couldn’t help but feel awkward thinking it was a guy who was breeding her new chikorita. She straightened her twin tails and flattened her ruffles and matching skirt. Idabelle, her shiny eevee was curled tightly hiding behind alruna’s magnificent pumped boots. Corina was energetically scanning, nibbling, growling, and purring all over the beautiful woman with short green hair.
Melota couldn't believe her eyes when she saw a young woman come onto her ranch in the early morning light. Her heart fluttered just a little bit at how cute the girl was in all of her ruffles and Melota couldn't help but to quickly run her hand through her hair to make sure the short cut wasn't too much of a mess. She really wished that she had been in better clothes to meet a lady of clearly high stature as this woman, but she was merely in an old pair of jeans and her dirty old hoodie that made up her work clothes.
"Ah, Miss actually m'am," Melota said nervously, stretching out her hand for the cute woman to shake. "I don't have a man around here. The name's Melota."
She tried to chuckle, but it came out as more of a nervous laugh and Melota couldn't help but mentally kick herself at how flustered the mere presence of a cute girl created.
"So, ah, what are ya doing out in these parts, m'am?" she asked with a crooked smile.
Alruna quickly brushed off her mistake with a simple uhn, and quickly resumed talking business with the woman. She seemed to be quite shy and modest, with a funny yet attractively intriguing accent reminiscent of those people she had met from Solaceon town of Sinnoh, and although her laugh was a little off-putting, the red haired woman quickly regained focus.
”Ah, so I assume you are the proprietor here? And thereby am I correct to assume you are the person I am here to see about my new chikorita? I seemed to have won an auction recently, but the pokemon was sent to a ranch for official checkups on recommendation of Queen Eira.”
Her voice was thorough and brimmed with confidence; something Alruna had no problem demonstrating. Not only that, her aquamarine eyes pierced the emerald orbs of her current company. She huffed and sounded very much like she was bored and discontent, while in actually she was trying to figure out the place she assumed was the ranch. It was rather small and to put it nicely… modest.
Melota quickly perked up at the mention of the baby Pokemon that the woman had come to retrieve.
"That would be one of mine all right," she said with a nod as she allowed her hand to drop back to her side, turning towards the rest of her property to take a quick scan for the Pokemon in question. "My Flower had the egg a while back. I didn't think that Queen Eira would have sold it already, but I guess that explains the funds I got."
She chuckled slightly as she ran her hand through her hair again before she grinned at the woman beside her.
"Would ya like to go meet the little one and her Mama? I'm sure my Flower would love to meet ya, m'am," Melota offered, extending her elbow to the red haired woman so she could guide her towards the barn where she kept the newly hatched babes while they got used to being away from their mothers.
Explains the… funds? Do you even keep track of your pokemon? Alruna was sure she made a twisted face behind the woman’s back, but quickly realized and shook it out, fluffing out her wavy hair in the process. She quietly followed, Idabelle panicking to catch up and stay close, and Corina bolting for the barn. ”It would be a pleasure to meet your, eh… Flower.” She wasn’t sure about going into some stranger’s creaking old ranch, but she just kept watch for her designer shoes for any Flower bombs. She allowed her dainty wrist to slide within the crook of the woman’s elbow. Before they entered the barns, Alruna paused to introduce herself.
”By the way, my name is Alruna. Alruna Orelia. And yours-Corina! Stop chewing the nice lady’s ankles!” She made a pouty face, but resumed her pleasant mask for the green-haired woman. Idabelle even moved towards the green-haired woman to sniff her like a foreign object. ”Wow. Usually she’s already begged me to put her back in her pokeball. You must have a gift. This is Idabelle and the one in timeout-“ she grumbled and flicked her annoyed eyes over to Corina, the non-shiny eevee, ”Is my other precious baby Corina. Sorry about her, she can be… mischievous?” She rolled her eyes upward mulling over her word choice.
Melota's heart gave a little flutter at the woman's touch before finding out the woman's name. She chuckled at the little Eevee's antics before noticing the silver gleam of the coat of the other Eevee and couldn't help but to gasp.
"Y-Ya have a shiny Eevee," Melota breathed in awe as she dropped into a crouch so she could hold her hand out for it to sniff her. "That's absolutely amazing! Her coat even shimmers in the light as if she really was made of silver! I can't believe I am getting to see such a rare sight after all these years."
Melota was so focused on examining the little Pokemon that she didn't even notice that she was rambling her praise of it or that her own Pokemon were starting to grow curious about their visitors and were drawing ever closer from where they had been scattered across the yard.
Melota was eager to fawn and awe over the silver-coated eevee, Idabelle was even curious to see what Melota thought as the woman picked up her paws and let her coat shimmer in the sunlight. But even if Idabelle had warmed up to the green-haired woman, she quickly took back her paws and sat back away from her. ’At least she isn’t running away….’ Alruna couldn’t help but think.
She had to admit, something about Melota’s accent intrigued her. She began to not even care what she said. Just as long as she kept talking so she could hear the accent. But eventually Corina couldn’t stand it. She tackled a growlithe that was encroaching. Whether she was in cold blood or simply playing, Alruna couldn’t tell, but she immediately ran over to the eevee and ripped her off the growlithe.
”Into your pokeball you troublemaker!” Half-letting it happen, the other half stuffing the reluctant eevee in, finally she was up and out of trouble. Alruna sighed. She’d let her back out when she had time to cool off. Sighing, she walked back to Idabelle and carried her. ”Sorry about that Miss Melota. So where were we?”
"Oh, if ya little one wants to play, then I'm sure my Pup wouldn't mind a new playmate," Melota said with a crooked smile as she motioned for her partner to come forward into the barn with them. Pup bounded forward before running around Melota's feet, settling in front of her with a sharp bark and a quickly wagging tail. Slowly, another Pokemon began to come forward before a blue ball came rolling into the barn, revealing a Phanpy once the ball settled next to Pup. Pup immediately pounced onto the Phanpy and began to nibble on his ear.
"As for ya new Pokemon, they'll be in back with their Mama," Melota told Alruna with a motion towards the back of the building.
