Eira was surprised by her low ranking, which must have been clear to Grace since the baby began to wail loudly that they had lost, that is until she saw Doom approaching and seemed to make a snap change from being upset to being quite curious. Eira bowed to Akane as she accepted her prize, her bow bringing Grace within reach of Doom so the little Pokemon patted him on the head with a giggle since she thought her mama was letting her pet the Houndoom.
The red queen smiled sweetly at Doom’s kind nature. He returned a lick to the baby pokemon, while if it had been Silas he might have tried to take a bite. The red hair was flipped behind her and she shifted her weight to the other hip. This next decision was very close. She was both proud, and amazed by the next two contestants. Their performances would be forever remembered, and the one that lost, should not be disappointed. Beaming at Nicole and Zandrophin, Akane, the red lady, proudly spoke,
”Well, now it comes down to the final two places. Here we have four ordinary trainers, who have shown us today they are nothing but ordinary. And luckily for us, three of them may return to preform again for us and another chance at the prized Houndoom Hall badge you see in my hand now.
But the final two places for today, come down to Nicole and Zandrophin. They both gave us a performance to remember, Nicole’s fabulous show of her pokemon’s perfectly practiced control of such a difficult element like fire, and Zandrophin’s self-sacrifice; I know it isn’t easy, but those performances showed me more trust than I probably have with Mr. Doom right here.”
She ruffled the fur between Doom’s horns and was accepted with a lolling tongue and a content expression.
”But a decision had to be made. Of course, numbers always speak for themselves; those are the only constant in this world of change.
Nicole, your performance was a truly spectacular sight to see. Again your pokemon have such discipline and control; you’re little braixen was meant to be a star. Thirty-eight points were awarded to your team.
Zandrophin, your second round performance, showed me enough to skyrocket your score from third to first. With forty points, I declare you the winner.”
Before the red lady could continue after forty the audience went wild; their hearts obviously moved by Zandrophin’s sacrifice. Doom proudly trotted to Nicole with her prize money, and Akane personally over to Zandrophin. She gave a slight bend as she handed him his money, and then his badge. She whispered to him,
”It won’t be as much fun without you here to perform. But if you ever wish to attend another contest here, a seat will always be reserved for you. Congratulations, and feel free to visit the nurse if you feel woozy.” Akane’s respect for Zandrophin was high, but now she decided was as good a time as any.
”Now, if you all would please, there is to be a very special ceremony today in the Ignacian Palace. I highly encourage all of you to attend.”
She smiled and waved everyone goodbye and caught up to Zandrophin behind the stage.
”Zandrophin, your attendance will be required. Thank you.”
She turned and walked away wordlessly.

As his victory was announced, Zandrophin looked to his competitors and nodded. With some help from Mentus, he spoke wordlessly to all of them.
I would like to thank you all for this experience. You all performed admirably. I may have been victorious here, but I'll admit I wasn't expecting it. Each of you brought something to this contest, and it made the competition all the more interesting. You should all be proud of what you did here today.
He continued his speech, but only to the two novice contest entrants, Nicole and Maleko.
The two of you are relatively new to the contest scene. Lady Eira and I have competed many times. I offer you these words: never stop pushing for excellence. Take what you have seen and apply it to your future experiences. Every experience teaches a lesson. Whatever that lesson was...remember it; it may serve you in the future. He then heard that he was required to come to the ceremony. As he walked away, he looked at Mentus and scratched his ears.
Great, old friend...another celebration...
You were planning on going to this one anyway, Sir...
That's not the point....now I have no choice...
Well, we'd best go get ready, then!

Eira had to admit that she was incredibly sad about not winning this time around either, but knew that there would always be a next time. As she left, she thought about her own contest hall back home and couldn't help but smile as she realized that she could very well have her own contest when travel between the kingdoms was easier in the coming months. That was something to look forward to at least and it was something to promote to everyone at the celebration tonight.
